2 Kings 19:1-37

1 And it comes to pass, at king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rends his garments, and covers himself with sackcloth, and enters the house of Yahweh, 2 and sends Eliakim, who [is] over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz, 3 and they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah--A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising [is] this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth. 4 `It may be Yahweh your Elohim does hear all the words of the chief of the butlers with which the king of Asshur his lord has sent him to reproach the living Elohim, and has decided concerning the words that Yahweh your Elohim has heard, and you have lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.. 5 And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah, 6 and Isaiah said to them, `Thus do you say unto your lord:Thus said Yahweh, Be not afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me. 7 Lo, I am giving in him a spirit, and he has heard a report, and has turned back to his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.. 8 And the chief of the butlers turns back and finds the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he has heard that he has journeyed from Lachish. 9 And he hears concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he has come out to fight with you;' and he turns and sends messengers unto Hezekiah, saying, 10 `Thus do you speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not your Elohim lift you up in whom you are trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur. 11 Lo, you have heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands--to devote them; and you are delivered!" 12 did the elohims of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed--Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who [are] in Thelassar? 13 Where [is] the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?. 14 And Hezekiah takes the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and reads them, and goes up to the house of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spreads it before Yahweh. 15 And Hezekiah prays before Yahweh, and said, `O Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, You [are] Elohim Himself--Yourself alone--to all the kingdoms of the earth:You have made the heavens and the earth. 16 Incline, O Yahweh, Your ear, and hear; open, O Yahweh, Your eyes, and see; and hear You the words of Sennacherib with which he has sent him to reproach the living Elohim. 17 `Truly, O Yahweh, kings of Asshur have laid waste the nations, and their land, 18 and have put their elohims into fire, for they [are] no elohims, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone, and destroy them. 19 And now, O Yahweh our Elohim, save us, we pray You, out of his hand, and know do all kingdoms of the earth that You [are] Yahweh Elohim--Yourself alone.. 20 And Isaiah son of Amoz sends unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, That which you have prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard. 21 this [is] the word that Yahweh spoke concerning him:`Trampled on you--laughed at you, Has the virgin daughter of Zion Behind you shaken the head--Has the daughter of Jerusalem? 22 Whom have you reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up a voice? Yea, you do lift up on high your eyes--Against the Holy One of Israel!" 23 By the hand of your messengers You have reproached the Lord, and say:In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains--The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel. 24 I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark. 25 Have you not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becomes a desolation, Ruinous heaps [are] fenced cities, 26 And their inhabitants [are] feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn--before it has risen up!" 27 And your sitting down, and your going out, And your coming in, I have known, And your anger towards Me;" 28 Because of your anger towards Me, And your noise--it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in your nose, And My bridle in your lips, And have caused you to turn back, In the way in which you came. 29 And this to you [is] the sign, Food of the year [is] the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow you, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits. 30 And it has continued--The escaped of the house of Judah That has been left--to take root beneath, And has made fruit upward. 31 For from Jerusalem goes out a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion; The zeal of Yahweh [of Hosts] does this. 32 Therefore, thus said Yahweh, Concerning the king of Asshur:He does not come in unto this city, Nor does he shoot there an arrow, Nor does he come before it with shield. Nor does he pour out against it a mount. 33 In the way that he comes in--In it he turns back, And unto this city he does not come in, The affirmation of Yahweh-. 34 And I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.. 35 And it comes to pass, in that night, that a messenger of Yahweh goes out, and smites in the camp of Asshur a hundred eighty and five thousand, and they rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them [are] dead corpses. 36 And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeys, and goes, and turns back, and dwells in Nineveh;" 37 and it comes to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his elohim, and Adramelech and Sharezar [his sons] have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigns in his stead.

11 And it comes to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the book of the law, that he rends his garments,

5 Then at the time of the evening approach present I arose from my self-abasement and, with my garment and my robe torn on me, I bowed down on my knees and spread out my palms to Yahweh my Elohi.

22 This is the word which Yahweh Elohim speaks concerning him:"She despises you! She derides you! The virgin daughter of Zion. Behind you her head wags! The daughter of Jerusalem." 23 Whom do you reproach and taunt? And against Whom do you raise high your voice? And you are lifting up your eyes to the height against the Holy One of Israel? 24 By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land." 25 I scoop and drink waters that are alien, and I will drain with the sole of my footfalls all the waterways of the besieged.'" 26 Have you not heard from afar that it was made by Me? From days aforetime also, I formed it. Now will I bring it, and coming are you to cause tumult, to besieged mounds, defended cities." 27 And their dwellers are shorthanded; they are dismayed and ashamed. They become herbage of the field and green verdure, grass of the housetops, and blasted before raised." 28 Your rising and your sitting and your faring forth and your coming in I know, and your perturbance against Me." 29 Because your perturbance against Me and your tumult ascends in My ears, so I will place My gaff in your nose, and My bit in your lips, and I will reverse you by the way in which you came." 30 And this is the sign for you:Eat for the year the self-sown, and in the second year the spontaneous growth. Yet in the third year, sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit." 31 And, in addition, the delivered of the house of Judah, the remnant finds root downward, and yields fruit upward, 32 for from Jerusalem shall fare forth a remnant, and the delivered from mount Zion. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this." 33 Wherefore, thus says Yahweh as to the king of Assyria:"He shall not come into this city, and not direct an arrow there, and he shall not precede it with a shield, and he shall not pour out against it an earthwork." 34 By the way which he came, by it shall he return. Yet into this city he shall not enter,averring is Yahweh." 35 And I am a protection over this city, to save it on My Own account, and on account of David, My servant." 36 And faring forth is a messenger of Yahweh and smiting in the Assyrian camp a hundred and eighty five thousand. And the king is rising early in the morning--and behold! All of them are corpses--dead! 37 And decamping, and going, and returning is Sennacherib, king of Assyria, and he is dwelling in Nineveh." 38 And he is coming to worship in the house of Nisroch, his elohim, and Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, smite him with the sword. Yet they escape into the land of Ararat, and reigning is Esarhaddon, his son, in his stead."

Jeremiah 36:24

24 And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments."

Jonah 3:5-6

5 Then the men of Nineveh are believing in Elohim. And they are calling a fast and are putting on sackcloths, from their greatest unto their small." 6 And the word is touching the king of Nineveh. And he is rising from his throne and is transferring his fur robe from him, and he is covering himself with sackcloth and is sitting on ashes."

Matthew 11:21

21 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the powerful deeds which are occurring in you occurred in Tyre and Sidon, long ago they would repent, sitting in sackcloth and ashes."
