²² And Joshua said, `Open you the mouth of the cave, and bring out unto me these five kings from the cave;. <sup>23</sup> and they do so, and bring out unto him these five kings from the cave:the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon. <sup>24</sup> And it comes to pass, when they bring out these kings unto Joshua, that Joshua calls unto every man of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war, who have gone with him, `Draw near, set your feet on the necks of these kings;' and they draw near, and set their feet on their necks. ²⁵ And Joshua said unto them, `Fear not, nor be affrighted; be strong and courageous; for thus does Yahweh do to all your enemies with whom you are fighting;. ²⁶ and Joshua smites them afterwards, and puts them to death, and hangs them on five trees; and they are hanging on the trees till the evening.

¹⁹ And they come into caves of the rocks, and into tunnels of the soil, from the face of awe-inspiring Yahweh, and from the honor of His pomp, when He rises to terrify the earth."

⁴ Barring one bows under a prisoner, or under the killed, they shall fall. And in all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still!"

¹⁷ Afraidness and a pit and a snare are on you, dweller of the land."

²² Yet they come to be a people plundered and robbed, snared in holes, all of them, and in houses of detention are they hidden. They come to be for plunder, and there is no rescuer, for robbery, and no one says "Restore."

⁶ And they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah son of the king, that [is] in the court of the prison, and they send down Jeremiah with cords; and in the pit there is no water, but mire, and Jeremiah sinks in the mire." ⁷ And Ebed-Melech the Cushite, a eunuch who [is] in the king's house, hears that they have put Jeremiah into the pit; and the king is sitting at the gate of Benjamin, ⁸ and Ebed-Melech goes forth from the king's house, and speaks unto the king, saying, ⁹ `My lord, O king, these men have done evil [in] all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit, and he dies in his place because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.'" <sup>10</sup> And the king commands Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying, `Take with you from this thirty men, and you have brought up Jeremiah the prophet from the pit, before he dies.'" ¹¹ And Ebed-Melech takes the men with him, and enters the house of the king, unto the place of the treasury, and takes thence worn-out clouts, and worn-out rags, and sends them unto Jeremiah unto the pit by cords." ¹² And Ebed-Melech the Cushite said unto Jeremiah, `Put, I pray you, the worn-out clouts and rags under your arm-holes, at the place of the cords,' and Jeremiah does so, ¹³ and they draw out Jeremiah with cords, and bring him up out of the pit, and Jeremiah dwells in the court of the prison."

⁸ After many days you are appointed, In the latter end of the years you come in unto a land brought back from sword, [A people] gathered out of many peoples, Upon mountains of Israel, That have been for a perpetual waste, And it from the peoples has been brought out, And dwelt safely have all of them."

¹¹ Moreover, you, by the blood of your covenant, I send your prisoners away from a cistern without water in it."
