²⁰ Swayed by swaying is the earth. And it staggers as a drunkard, and it wanders as a mariner, and its transgression is heavy upon it. And it falls, and is not proceeding to rise."

⁴ For my depravities, they pass over my head; Like a heavy load, they are too heavy for me."

²⁷ They circled and staggered like a drunkard, And all their wisdom was swallowed up."

⁸ And left is the daughter of Zion as a booth in a vineyard, as a lodge in a cucumber patch, as a city besieged."

²⁸ And the breaking of transgressors and sinners shall be together, and forsakers of Yahweh shall be finished."

⁷ For the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel, and each man of Judah His plant delectable. And He is expecting judgment, and behold! Transgression! Righteousness, and behold! A cry!" ⁸ Woe to those touching house to house, bringing field near to field unto the limits of a place! That from an associate they may withdraw it, and it causes you to dwell all alone within the land!" ⁹ For it is heard in the ears of Yahweh of hosts:"Would not many houses great and good come to desolation from having no dweller? ¹⁰ For ten acres of vineyard are yielding one bath, and a homer's seed is yielding an ephah." ¹¹ Woe! Early morning risers, pursuing an intoxicant! Delaying in the gloaming, wine is making them flare up." ¹² And coming are harp and zither, tambourine and flute. And wine is in their feasts. Yet at the contrivance of Yahweh they are not looking. And the doing of His hands they do not see." ¹³ Wherefore, My people are deported for failing to know Yahweh. And a lot become death-doomed from famine, and the throng is glazed with thirst." ¹⁴ Wherefore the unseen widens its greedy soul, and gapes its mouth for the decadent dole; and descend does its honorable and its throng, and its tumultuous and joyous into it." ¹⁵ And prostrating is the human, and abasing himself is the man, and the eyes of the lofty are lowering." ¹⁶ And lofty is Yahweh of hosts in judgment, and holy El is hallowed in righteousness." ¹⁷ And the lambs are grazed according to their menu, and on the deserted places wiped up the kids are eating." ¹⁸ Woe to those drawing depravity with cables of futility, and as with the traces of a car, their sin, ¹⁹ saying, "Let Him be hastening, hurrying His doing, that we may be seeing, and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel be nearing and coming, that we may know." ²⁰ Woe to those saying for evil, good, and for good, evil, placing darkness for light and light for darkness, placing bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" ²¹ Woe to those wise in their own eyes, and in front of their own face have understanding!" ²² Woe to masters of wine drinking, and mortals valorous in blending an intoxicant, ²³ who justify the wicked as the consequence of a bribe, and the righteousness of the righteous are taking away from him." ²⁴ Wherefore, as a straw is devoured by a tongue of fire, and chaff in a blaze is collapsing, their root as if putrefied is becoming, and their bud as dust is ascending, for they reject the law of Yahweh of hosts, and the saying of the Holy One of Israel they spurn." ²⁵ Therefore the anger of Yahweh of hosts is hot among His people, and He is stretching out His hand over them, and smiting them. And disturbed are the chiefs, and their carcasses are becoming as sweepings within the streets. In all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still." ²⁶ And He lifts up a banner for nations from afar, and He hisses for one from the outmost part of the earth, and, behold! Hastily, fleetly is it coming." ²⁷ None is faint and none is stumbling in it. None is slumbering nor sleeping, nor is opened the belt of his loins, nor is pulled away the lacing of his sandals;" ²⁸ whose arrows are whetted, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of his horses as rock are reckoned, and his chariot wheels as a sweeping whirlwind." ²⁹ Its roaring is like the parent lion's; and the tumult like the sheltered lions, and he is growling and holding the prey, and there is no retrieving or rescuing." ³⁰ And he is growling over him in that day as the growling of the billowing sea. And behold! Darkness, distress, and the light is kept back in terror."

¹⁴ Yahweh blends within it a depraved spirit. They lead Egypt astray in its every deed, as a drunkard strays in his vomit."

⁹ Dally and be amazed! Regale yourself and revel! Be drunk, yet not from wine! Sway, yet not from an intoxicant!"

¹² My generation journeys and is deported from me as the tent of a shepherd. I snap as a weaver the thread of my life. From the thrum is He clipping me. From day unto night are You causing me to repay.

²⁷ Your first forefather sinned, and your iterators transgressed against Me."

⁴ And you have said unto them:Thus said Yahweh, Do they fall, and not rise? Does he turn back, and not return?

²⁷ And you have said unto them:Thus said Yahweh of Hosts Elohim of Israel, Drink you, yea drink abundantly, And vomit, and fall, and rise not, Because of the sword that I am sending among you."

¹⁴ The yoke of my transgressions is bound on; In His hand they intertwine themselves; They ascend upon my neck; it has caused my vigor to falter. Yahweh has given me over into the hands of those I cannot rise against.

¹⁹ Then he shall turn his face to the strongholds of his own land. Yet he is stumbled and falls and will not be found."

¹ Hear the word of Yahweh, sons of Israel! For Yahweh has a contention with the dwellers of the land, for there is no truth and there is no kindness and there is no knowledge of Elohim in the land." ² Imprecation and dissimulation and murder and stealing and adultery breach forth in the land, and blood touches blood." ³ Therefore the land shall mourn, and every dweller in it shall be enfeebled with the field life, and with the moving animals on the ground, and with the flyers of the heavens; and even the fishes of the sea shall be gathered away." ⁴ Yea, a man must not be contending, and a man must not be correcting another. Yet My people are as those contending against a priest." ⁵ And you stumble in the day, and even the prophet stumbles with you at night, and I will still your mother."

¹⁴ who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, Living is your Elohim, O Dan! And living is the way of Beer-sheba! Yet they will fall and will not rise again."

⁵ Then the messenger who is speaking with me is faring forth and is saying to me, Lift, I pray, your eyes and see what this is that is faring forth." ⁶ And I am saying, What is it? And he is saying, This is an ephah which is faring forth. And he is saying, This is their depravity in the entire earth." ⁷ And behold! A disk of lead is lifted up, and behold one woman is sitting in the midst of the ephah." ⁸ And he is saying, This woman is wickedness. And he is flinging her down into the midst of the ephah. And he is flinging the stone of lead on its mouth."

³⁵ so that on you should be coming all the just blood shed on the earth, from the blood of just Abel until the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murder between the temple and the altar." ³⁶ Verily, I am saying to you: All these things will be arriving on this generation."

²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it."
