⁶ You have sown for increase, yet it brings in little. You eat, yet without satisfaction; drink, yet without gratification; are clothed, yet without warmth to it. And the hireling's hire goes into a pierced pouch."

²⁰ Your vigor will be spent for naught, and your land shall not give its crop, and the tree of the field shall not give its fruit.

²⁶ When I break the stock of bread for you then ten women will bake your bread in one stove and return your bread by weight so that you will eat and not be satisfied.

³⁸ Much seed shall you bring forth to the field, yet little shall you gather, for the locust shall eat it up. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards, and you will service them, yet you shall neither drink the wine, nor shall you hoard it, for the worm shall devour it. ⁴⁰ You shall come to have olives in all your territory, yet you shall not rub yourself with oil because your olives shall drop off.

¹ And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeks the face of Yahweh, and Yahweh said, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites..

¹² And she said, `Yahweh your Elohim lives, I have not a cake, but the fulness of the hand of meal in a pitcher, and a little oil in a dish; and lo, I am gathering two sticks, and have gone in and prepared it for myself, and for my son, and we have eaten it--and died..

²² When his affluence is full there shall be distress for him; Every means of misery shall come upon him.

²⁸ The deluge shall deport his house, Spilling over in the day of His anger.

³⁴ A fruitful area into a salty waste, Because of the evil of those dwelling in it."

¹⁰ For ten acres of vineyard are yielding one bath, and a homer's seed is yielding an ephah."

⁴ Because the ground has been broken, For there has been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head."

¹⁸ `And from the time we have ceased to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, we have lacked all, and by sword and by famine we have been consumed,

¹⁶ And He said unto me, `Son of man, lo, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they have eaten bread by weight and with fear; and water by measure and with astonishment, they do drink;" ¹⁷ so that they lack bread and water, and have been astonished one with another, and been consumed in their iniquity."

¹⁰ And they shall eat and not be satisfied; they cause prostitution and shall not be breaching forth, for they forsake Yahweh, to observe prostitution,

⁷ For they are sowing the wind, and they shall reap the sweeping whirlwind. There is no raised grain for him; the sprout shall fail to yield meal; perhaps it shall yield, but then aliens shall swallow it down."

¹⁰ The field is devastated; the ground mourns; for the grain is devastated. The grape juice is dried; the clarified oil is enfeebled. ¹¹ Be ashamed, farmers! Howl, vineyardists! Over the wheat and over the barley, for the harvest of the field perishes." ¹² The vine is dried, and the fig tree is enfeebled. The pomegranate, moreover the palm and the apricot--all the trees of the field are dry, for elation is dried from the sons of humanity." ¹³ Gird sackcloth, and wail, priests! Howl, ministers of the altar! Come! Lodge in sackcloth, ministers of my Elohim. For the approach present and the libation are withheld from the house of your Elohim."

⁶ And, moreover, I give you teeth innocent of food in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁷ And, moreover, I withhold from you the downpour, while still three months to harvest, and I cause rain on one city, and on another city I am not causing rain; one portion was rained upon, and the portion upon which I am not causing rain is drying up." ⁸ And two or three cities rove to one city to drink water, yet they are not satisfied. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁹ I smite you with blasting and with green mold. The increase of your gardens and your vineyards and your figs and your olives, the larva of the locust is devouring. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)."

¹⁴ You shall eat and not be satisfied, and darkness shall be within you. And you shall turn away and not retrieve, and that which you are delivering, I will give to the sword." ¹⁵ You shall sow, yet not reap. You shall tread olives, yet not rub with oil, and grape juice, yet you shall not drink wine."

⁹ You face about for increase, and behold it is little! Yet you bring it home, and I blow on it. Because of what? (averring is Yahweh of hosts). Because of My house! It is deserted, yet you are running, each to his own house!"

¹⁶ what came to you? One came to a threshed grain bin for twenty seahs, yet it came to be ten. One came to a wine-vat to make it bare of fifty measures in the winepress, yet it came to be twenty."

⁴ I will bring it forth, (averring is Yahweh of hosts), and it enters into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears in My name falsely, and it lodges in the midst of his house, and it consumes it and its timbers and its stones."

¹⁰ For before those days when no hire came to the human for profit, and there was no hire for the beast, nor for the one faring forth nor for the one entering; there was no peace from the distresser, and I was sending off every human, each against his associate."

² If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart to give glory to My name, says Yahweh of hosts, then I will send among you the curse. And I will curse your blessings. And, moreover, I have cursed them, and I will annul them, for you are not taking it to heart, and it shall not come among you."

⁹ With a curse you curse Me, and Me you are defrauding--the nation, all of it." ¹⁰ Then bring the entire tithe to the treasure house, and viands will come to be in My house. And test Me, I pray, in this, says Yahweh of hosts, if I will not open for you crevices in the heavens and I empty for you a blessing till there is insufficient storage." ¹¹ And I will rebuke for you the devourer, and he shall not ruin the fruit of the ground for you, nor shall it bereave for you the vine in the field, says Yahweh of hosts."
