³ and use unto the rebellious house a simile, and you have said unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:To set on the pot, to set [it] on, and also to pour into it water,

² I will open my mouth with a proverb; I will utter enigmas from aforetime,

² Hark, you heavens! And give ear, O earth! For Yahweh speaks! Sons I bring up and exalt, yet they, they transgress against Me."

¹ Woe, stubborn sons!averring is Yahweh, "To make counsel, yet not from Me, and to libate a libation, yet not of My spirit, that they may add sin on sin!"

⁹ For a rebellious people are they, sons of dissimulations, sons who would not hearken to the law of Yahweh,

¹⁰ Yet they rebelled and grieved His holy spirit, and He is turning into their enemy, and He fights against them."

¹³ And there is a word of Yahweh unto me a second time, saying, `What are you seeing?' And I say, `A blown pot I am seeing, and its face [is] from the north.'"

¹³ Because of the wrath of Yahweh it is not inhabited, And it has been a desolation--all of it. Every passer by at Babylon is astonished, And does hiss because of all her plagues." ¹⁴ Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about, All you treading a bow, Shoot at her, have no pity on the arrow, For against Yahweh she has sinned."

³ And He said unto Me, `Son of man, I am sending you unto the sons of Israel, unto nations who are rebels, who have rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me, unto this self-same day."

⁶ `And you, son of man, you are not afraid of them, yea, of their words you are not afraid, for briers and thorns are with you, and near scorpions you are dwelling, of their words you are not afraid, and of their faces you are not affrighted, for they [are] a rebellious house,

⁸ `And you, son of man, hear that which I am speaking unto you:You are not rebellious like the rebellious house, open your mouth, and eat that which I am giving unto you.'"

⁹ As an adamant harder than a rock I have made your forehead; you do not fear them, nor are you affrighted before them, for a rebellious house [are] they.'"

³ who are saying, It [is] not near--to build houses, it [is] the pot, and we the flesh."

⁷ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Your wounded whom you placed in its midst, They [are] the flesh, and it [is] the pot, And you he has brought out from its midst."

¹¹ It is not to you for a pot, Nor are you in its midst for flesh, At the border of Israel I do judge you."

² `Son of man, in the midst of the rebellious house you are dwelling, that have eyes to see, and they have not seen; ears they have to hear, and they have not heard; for a rebellious house [are] they."

²⁵ For I [am] Yahweh, I speak, The word that I speak--it is done, It is not prolonged any more, For, in your days, O rebellious house, I speak a word, and I have done it, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh.'"

² `Son of man, put forth a riddle, and use a simile unto the house of Israel,

¹² `Say, I pray you, to the rebellious house, Have you not known what these [are]? Say, Lo, come has the king of Babylon to Jerusalem, And he takes its king, and its princes, And brings them to himself to Babylon."

² and you have said:What [is] your mother? --a lioness, Among lions she has crouched down, In the midst of young lions she has multiplied her whelps." ³ And she brings up one of her whelps, A young lion it has been, And it learns to tear prey, man it has devoured." ⁴ And hear of it do nations, In their pit it has been caught, And they bring it in with chains unto the land of Egypt." ⁵ And she sees, that stayed--perished has her hope, And she takes one of her whelps, A young lion she has made it." ⁶ And it goes up and down in the midst of lions, A young lion it has been, And it learns to tear prey, man it has devoured." ⁷ And it knows his forsaken habitations, And their cities it has laid waste, And desolate is the land and its fulness, Because of the voice of his roaring." ⁸ And set against it do nations Round about from the provinces. And they spread out for it their net, In their pit it has been caught." ⁹ And they put it in prison--in chains, And they bring it unto the king of Babylon, They bring it in unto bulwarks, So that its voice is not heard any more On mountains of Israel." ¹⁰ Your mother [is] as a vine in your blood by waters planted, Fruitful and full of boughs it has been, Because of many waters." ¹¹ And it has strong rods for sceptres of rulers, And high is its stature above thick branches, And it appears in its height In the multitude of its thin shoots." ¹² And it is plucked up in fury, To the earth it has been cast, And the east wind has dried up its fruit, Broken and withered has been the rod of its strength, Fire has consumed it." ¹³ And now--it is planted in a wilderness, In a land dry and thirsty." ¹⁴ And go forth does fire from a rod of its boughs, Its fruit it has devoured, And it has no rod of strength--a sceptre to rule, Lamentation it [is] --and it is for a lamentation!'"

⁴⁹ And I say, `Ah, Lord Yahweh, They are saying of me, Is he not using similes?

⁶ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Woe [to] the city of blood, A pot whose scum [is] in it, And its scum has not come out of it, By piece of it, by piece of it bring it out, Not fallen on it has a lot."

⁴ In that day a proverb will be lifted concerning you, and it shall plaint a plaint, plaintively, saying:We are utterly devastated. He is changing the portion of my people. How is He removing what is for me? He is apportioning our fields to the backslider."

¹² And they sought to hold Him, and they were afraid of the throng, for they know that He spoke the parable to them. And, leaving Him, they came away."

¹⁰ Now He said, "To you has it been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, yet to the rest in parables, that, observing, they may not be observing, and hearing, they may not be understanding."

⁵¹ Stiff-necked and uncircumcised in your hearts and ears, you are ever clashing with the holy spirit! As your fathers, you also!"
