Amos 3:9 Cross References - CLV

⁹ Announce it on the citadels in Ashdod, and on the citadels in the land of Egypt. And say, Gather on the mountains of Samaria, and see the vast discomfitures in her midst, and the extortions within her."

²⁴ hence all the nations will ask:Why did Yahweh do thus to this land? Why the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then some will answer:Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, that He had contracted with them when He brought them forth from the country of Egypt, ²⁶ for they went off and served other elohim and bowed themselves down to them, elohim whom they had neither known, nor had He apportioned for them. ²⁷ Hence the anger of Yahweh grew hot against that land so as to bring upon it all the malediction that is written in this scroll. ²⁸ So Yahweh plucked them up off their ground in anger, in fury and in great wrath, and He flung them into another country as it is this day.

¹ And the Philistines have taken the ark of Elohim, and bring it in from Eben-Ezer to Ashdod,

²⁰ Declare [it] not in Gath, Proclaim not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon, Lest they rejoice--The daughters of the Philistines, Lest they exult--The daughters of the Uncircumcised!"

¹⁰ For, pass to the isles of Chittim, and see, And to Kedar send, and consider well, And see if there has been like this:" ¹¹ Has a nation changed elohims? (And they [are] no elohims!) And My people has changed its honor For that which does not profit.

⁸ And many nations have passed by this city, And they have said, each to his neighbor, For what has Yahweh done thus to this great city? ⁹ And they have said, `Because that they have forsaken The covenant of Yahweh their Elohim, And bow themselves to other elohims, and serve them.'"

⁵ Again you do plant vineyards In mountains of Samaria, Planters have planted, and made common."

⁷ For thus said Yahweh:Sing, O you to Jacob, [with] joy, And cry aloud at the head of the nations, Sound you, praise you, and say, Save, O Yahweh, your people, the remnant of Israel." ⁸ Lo, I am bringing them in from the north country, And have gathered them from the sides of the earth, Among them [are] blind and lame, Conceiving and travailing one--together, A great assembly--they turn back hither." ⁹ With weeping they come in, And with supplications I bring them, I cause them to go unto streams of waters, In a right way--they stumble not in it, For I have been to Israel for a father, And Ephraim--My first-born [is] he."

¹⁴ `Declare you in Egypt, and sound in Migdol, Yea, sound in Noph, and in Tahpanhes say:Station yourself, yea, prepare for you, For a sword has devoured around you,

² `Declare you among nations, and sound, And lift up an ensign, sound, do not hide, Say you:Captured has been Babylon, Put to shame has been Bel, Broken has been Merodach, Put to shame have been her grievous things, Broken have been her idols."

⁸ And you, O mountains of Israel, Your branch you give out, and your fruits you bear for My people Israel, For they have drawn near to come."

²² And I have made them become one nation in the land, on mountains of Israel, And one king is to them all for king, And they are no more as two nations, Nor are they divided any more into two kingdoms again."

⁸ And I will cut off the dweller from Ashdod, and the upholder of the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will reverse My hand on Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says my Lord Yahweh."

¹ Hear this word, young cows of Bashan, which are in the mountain of Samaria, the ones extorting the poor, the ones bruising the needy, the ones saying to their lords, Bring, and let us drink."

¹ Woe to the tranquil in Zion and those trusting in the mountain of Samaria!--The specified men of the first of the nations, and to them to whom the house of Israel comes."

⁶ to buy the poor for silver, and the needy for the sake of a pair of sandals? Even the tailings of the cereal we will retail!"
