³ For my soul is filled with troubles, and my life has drawn near to Hades.

² Oh that one would indeed weigh the wrath that is upon me, and take up my grief in a balance together! ³ And surely they would be heavier than the sand by the seashore: but, as it seems, my words are vain. ⁴ For the arrows of the Lord are in my body, whose violence drinks up my blood: whenever I am going to speak, they pierce me.

²² His soul also draws near to death, and his life is in Hades.

¹¹ Be not far from Me, for affliction is near; for there is no helper. ¹² Many bulls have compassed Me; fat bulls have beset Me round about. ¹³ They have opened their mouth against Me, as a ravening and roaring lion. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all My bones are loosened; My heart in the midst of My belly has become like melting wax. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and My tongue is glued to My throat; and You have brought Me down to the dust of death. ¹⁶ For many dogs have compassed Me; the assembly of the evildoers has enclosed Me; they pierced My hands and My feet. ¹⁷ They counted all My bones; and they observed and looked upon Me. ¹⁸ They parted My garments among themselves, and cast lots for My clothing. ¹⁹ But You, O Lord, be not far from Me; be ready for My aid. ²⁰ Deliver My soul from the sword; My only begotten soul from the power of the dog. ²¹ Save Me from the lion's mouth; and regard My lowliness from the horns of the unicorns.

¹⁷ And turn not away Your face from Your servant; for I am afflicted; hear me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw near to my soul and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies. ¹⁹ For You know my reproach, and my shame, and my confusion; all that afflict me are before You. ²⁰ My soul has waited for reproach and misery; and I waited for one to grieve with me, but there was none; and for one to comfort me, but I found none. ²¹ They gave me also gall for my food, and made me drink vinegar for my thirst.

² In the day of my affliction I earnestly sought the Lord; even with my hands by night before Him, and I was not deceived; my soul refused to be comforted.

¹⁴ Why, O Lord, do You reject my prayer, and turn Your face away from me? ¹⁵ I am poor and in troubles from my youth; and having been exalted, I was brought low and into despair.

¹⁸ Their soul abhorred all food; and they drew near to the gates of death.

²⁶ They go up to the heavens, and go down to the depths; their soul melts because of troubles.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has brought my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in a dark place, as those that have been long dead. ⁴ Therefore my spirit was grieved in me; my heart was troubled within me.

³ But His form was ignoble, and inferior to that of the children of men; He was a man in suffering, and acquainted with the bearing of sickness, for His face has turned from us; He was dishonored, and not esteemed.

¹⁰ The Lord also is pleased to purge Him from His stroke. If you give an offering for sin, Your soul shall see a long-lived seed; ¹¹ the Lord also is pleased to take away from the travail of His soul, to show Him light, and to form Him with understanding; to justify the just one who serves many well; and He shall bear their sins.

¹⁵ ( { ε}) VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, He has drenched me with gall. ¹⁶ And He has dashed out my teeth with gravel, He has fed me with ashes. ¹⁷ He has also removed my soul from peace: I forgot prosperity. ¹⁸ Therefore my success has perished, and my hope from the Lord. ¹⁹ ( { ζ}) ZAIN. I remembered by reason of my poverty, and because of persecution my bitterness and gall shall be remembered;

³⁷ And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. ³⁸ Then Jesus said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Stay here and watch with Me." ³⁹ He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."

³³ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be greatly amazed, and deeply depressed. ³⁴ Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and watch."
