¹ The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel: ² to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding; ³ to receive also hard sayings, and to understand true justice, and how to direct judgment; ⁴ that he might give prudence to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding. ⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction; ⁶ and will understand a parable, and an enigma; the saying of the wise also, and riddles. ⁷ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practice it: and godliness toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will nullify wisdom and instruction. ⁸ Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, and reject not the rules of your mother. ⁹ For you shall receive a crown of grace for your head, and a chain of gold around your neck. ¹⁰ My son, let not ungodly men lead you astray, neither shall you consent to them. ¹¹ If they should exhort you, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth: ¹² and let us swallow him alive, as Hades would, and remove the memorial of him from the earth: ¹³ let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils: ¹⁴ but cast in your lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch: ¹⁵ go not in the way with them, let your foot turn aside from their paths: ¹⁶ (TEXT OMITTED) ¹⁷ for nets are not spread for the birds without cause. ¹⁸ For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil. ¹⁹ These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life. ²⁰ Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly. ²¹ And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says, ²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs. ²³ Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech. ²⁴ Since I called, and you did not hear, and I spoke at length, and you gave no heed; ²⁵ but you disdained my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs; ²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you: ²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you. ²⁸ For it shall be that when you call upon me, I will not listen to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me. ²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord: ³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness. ³² For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly. ³³ But he that listens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.

^{3 (6:4)} And the Lord God said, My Spirit shall certainly not remain among these men forever, because they are flesh, but their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.

⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, Lie with me. ⁸ But he would not; but said to his master's wife, If because of me my master knows nothing in his house, and has given into my hands all things that belong to him; ⁹ and in this house there is nothing above me, nor has anything been kept back from me, but you, because you are his wife — how then shall I do this wicked thing, and sin against God? ¹⁰ So it was, as she talked with Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to sleep with her, or to be with her. ¹¹ But it came to pass on a certain day, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and there was no one of the household inside. ¹² And she caught hold of him by his clothes, and said, Lie with me. And having left his clothes in her hands, he fled, and ran outside. ¹³ And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his clothes in her hands and fled, and ran outside,

⁴² And Pharaoh took his ring off his hand, and put it on the hand of Joseph, and put on him a robe of fine linen, and put a necklace of gold about his neck.

³ And Moses and Aaron went in before Pharaoh, and they said to him, Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: How long do you refuse to reverence Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

²⁸ And the Lord said to Moses, How long are you unwilling to heed My commands and My law?

³ Let everyone of you reverence his father and his mother; and you shall keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

⁸ I will speak plainly to him, mouth to mouth, and not in dark speeches; and he has seen the glory of the Lord; and why were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?

²⁷ How long shall I endure this wicked congregation? I have heard their murmurings against Me, even the murmuring of the children of Israel, which they have murmured concerning you.

³⁰ But if the Lord shall show by a wonder, and the earth shall open her mouth and swallow them up, and their houses, and their tents, and all that belongs to them, and they shall go down alive into Hades, then you shall know that these men have provoked the Lord. ³¹ And when he ceased speaking all these words, the ground split apart beneath them. ³² And the ground opened, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that were with Korah, and their cattle. ³³ And they went down, they and all that they had, alive into Hades; and the ground covered them, and they perished from the midst of the congregation.

¹⁰ And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up them and Korah, when their assembly perished, when the fire devoured the two hundred and fifty, and they were made a sign.

⁵ Behold, I have shown you the statutes and judgments as the Lord has commanded me, that you should do so in the land into which you go, to inherit it. ⁶ And you shall keep and do them: for this is your wisdom and understanding before all nations, as many as shall hear all these ordinances; and they shall say, Behold, this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

⁸ you shall not consent to him, neither shall you hearken to him; and your eye shall not spare him, you shall feel no regret for him, neither shall you at all protect him:

¹⁸ And if any man has a disobedient and contentious son, who hearkens not to the voice of his father and the voice of his mother, and they should correct him, and he should not hearken to them; ¹⁹ then shall his father and his mother take hold of him, and bring him forth to the elders of his city, and to the gate of the place; ²⁰ and they shall say to the men of their city, This our son is disobedient and contentious, he hearkens not to our voice, he is a reveler and a drunkard. ²¹ And the men of his city shall stone him with stones, and he shall die; and you shall remove the evil one from yourselves, and the rest shall hear and fear.

¹⁵ So Jacob ate and was filled, and the beloved one kicked; he grew fat, he became thick and broad: then he forsook the God that made him, and departed from God his Savior. ¹⁶ They provoked Me to anger with strange gods; with their abominations they bitterly angered Me. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, and not to God; to gods whom they knew not: new and fresh gods came in, whom their fathers knew not. ¹⁸ You have forsaken God that begot you, and forgotten God who feeds you. ¹⁹ And the Lord saw, and was jealous; and was provoked by the anger of His sons and daughters, ²⁰ and said, I will turn away My face from them, and will show what shall happen to them in the last days; for it is a perverse generation, sons in whom is no faith. ²¹ They have provoked Me to jealousy by that which is not God, they have exasperated Me with their idols; and I will provoke them to jealousy with them that are not a nation, I will anger them with a nation void of understanding. ²² For a fire has been kindled out of My wrath, it shall burn to hell below; it shall devour the land, and the fruits of it; it shall set on fire the foundations of the mountains. ²³ I will gather evils upon them, and will fight with My weapons against them. ²⁴ They shall be consumed with hunger and the devouring of birds, and there shall be irremediable destruction: I will send forth against them the teeth of wild beasts, with the rage of serpents creeping on the ground. ²⁵ Outside, the sword shall bereave them of children, and terror shall issue out of the secret chambers; the young man shall perish with the virgin, the suckling with him who has grown old. ²⁶ I said, I will scatter them, and I will cause their memorial to cease from among men. ²⁷ Were it not for the wrath of the enemy, lest they should live long, lest their enemies should combine against them; lest they should say, Our own outstretched arm, and not the Lord's, has done all these things. ²⁸ It is a nation that has lost counsel, neither is there understanding in them. ²⁹ They had not sense to understand; let them reserve these things against the time to come. ³⁰ How should one pursue a thousand, and two put tens of thousands to flight, if God had not sold them, and the Lord had not delivered them up? ³¹ For their gods are not as our God, but our enemies are void of understanding. ³² For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and their vinebranch of Gomorrah: their grape is a grape of gall, their cluster is one of bitterness. ³³ Their wine is the rage of serpents, and the incurable rage of asps. ³⁴ Lo! Are not these things stored up by Me, and sealed among My treasures? ³⁵ In the day of vengeance I will recompense, whenever their foot shall be tripped up; for the day of their destruction is near to them, and the judgments at hand are close upon you. ³⁶ For the Lord shall judge His people, and shall be comforted over His servants; for He saw that they were utterly weakened, and failed in the hostile invasion, and have become feeble. ³⁷ And the Lord said, Where are their gods on whom they trusted? ³⁸ The fat of whose sacrifices you ate, and you drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them arise and help you, and be your protectors. ³⁹ Behold I, even I, am He, and there is no God beside Me: I kill, and I will make to live: I will smite, and I will heal; and there is none who shall deliver out of My hands. ⁴⁰ For I will lift up My hand to heaven, and swear by My right hand, and I will say, I live forever. ⁴¹ For I will sharpen My sword like lightning, and My hand shall take hold of judgment; and I will render judgment to My enemies, and will recompense them that hate Me. ⁴² I will make My weapons drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh, it shall gorge itself with the blood of the wounded, and from the captivity of the heads of their enemies that rule over them. ⁴³ Rejoice, you heavens, with Him, and let all the angels of God worship Him; rejoice you Gentiles, with His people, and let all the sons of God strengthen themselves in Him; for He shall avenge the blood of His sons, and He shall render vengeance, and recompense justice to His enemies, and will reward them that hate Him; and the Lord shall purge the land of His people. ⁴⁴ And Moses wrote this song in that day, and taught it to the children of Israel; and Moses went in and spoke all the words of this law in the ears of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹⁴ Go, and cry to the gods whom you have chosen to yourselves, and let them save you in the time of your affliction.

And the chiefs of the Philistines went up to her, and brought the money in their hands. ¹⁹ And Delilah made Sampson sleep upon her knees. And she called a man, and he shaved the seven locks of his head, and she began to humble him, and his strength departed from him. ²⁰ And Delilah said, The Philistines are upon you, Sampson. And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as at former times, and shake myself; and he knew not that the Lord had departed from him. ²¹ And the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he became a grinder in the prison house.

²⁵ If a man should at all sin against another, then shall they pray for him to the Lord; but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intercede for him? But they hearkened not to the voice of their father, because the Lord would by all means destroy them.

¹⁸ And you shall cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord shall not hear you in those days, because you have chosen for yourselves a king.

³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this very day to meet me. ³³ And blessed be your conduct, and blessed are you, who has hindered me this very day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself.

²⁴ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and he went in to her, and lay with her; and she conceived and bore a son, and he called his named Solomon, and the Lord loved him. ²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name Jedidiah, for the Lord's sake.

¹¹ And Joab said to the man who reported it to him, Behold, did you indeed see him? Why then did you not strike him there to the ground? And I would have given you ten pieces of silver, and a belt. ¹² And the man said to Joab, Were I even to receive a thousand shekels of silver, I would not lift my hand against the king's son; for in our ears the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care of the young man Absalom for me, ¹³ so as to do no harm to his life: and nothing of the matter will be concealed from the king, and you will set yourself against me.

¹² And Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was established greatly.

⁹ Give therefore to Your servant a heart to hear and to judge Your people justly, and to discern between good and evil: for who will be able to judge this Your great people? ¹⁰ And it was pleasing before the Lord, that Solomon asked this thing. ¹¹ And the Lord said to him, Because you have asked this thing of Me, and have not asked for yourself long life, and have not asked wealth, nor have asked for the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to hear judgment; ¹² behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you an understanding and wise heart: there has not been anyone like you before you, and after you there shall not arise one like you.

²⁸ And all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment.

³¹ And he was wiser than all other men; and he was wiser than Ethan the Ezrahrite, and than Heman, and than Chalcol and Darda the son of Mahol. ³² And Solomon spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were five thousand.

²⁰ And Gehazi the servant of Elisha said, Behold, my Lord has spared this Syrian Naaman, so as not to take of his hand what he has brought; as the Lord lives, I will surely run after him, and take something from him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And Naaman saw him running after him, and turned back from his chariot to meet him. ²² And Gehazi said, All is well: my master has sent me, saying, Behold, now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from Mount Ephraim; please give them a talent of silver, and two changes of clothes. ²³ And Naaman said, Take two talents of silver. And he took two talents of silver in two bags, and two changes of clothing, and put them upon two of his servants, and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And he came to a secret place, and took them from their hands, and laid them up in the house, and dismissed the men. ²⁵ And he went in himself and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, ²⁶ From where have you come, Gehazi? And Gehazi said, Your servant has not been anywhere. And Elisha said to him, Did not my heart go with you, when the man returned from his chariot to meet you? And now you have received silver, and now you have received clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants, and maidservants. ²⁷ The leprosy also of Naaman shall cleave to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence leprous, like snow.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, he shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the Lord has given me many sons) He has chosen Solomon my son, to set him on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

²⁸ And he died in a good old age, full of days, in wealth, and glory; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

¹⁶ And it came to pass when the prophet was speaking to him, that he said to him, Have I made you the king's counselor? Take heed lest you be scourged! And the prophet became silent, and said, I know that God is disposed against you to destroy you, because you have done this thing, and have not hearkened to my counsel.

¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

¹⁰ So Haman was hanged on the gallows that had been prepared for Mordecai; and then the king's wrath was appeased.

⁸ Accordingly, as I have seen men plowing barren places, and they that sow them will reap sorrows for themselves.

¹⁴ Yet such a man says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know Your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Mighty One, that we should serve Him? And what profit is there that we should approach Him?

²² And receive a declaration from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.

² while the ungodly have passed over the bound, carrying off the flock with the shepherd? ³ They have led away the donkey of the fatherless, and taken the widow's ox for a pledge.

⁹ Will God hear his prayer? Or when distress has come upon him,

²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

³⁹ and if I ate its strength alone without price, and if I too grieved the heart of the owner of the soil, by taking from him,

⁷ What man is like Job, drinking scorning like water?

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me, you that are wise in heart: far be it from me to sin before the Lord, and to pervert righteousness before the Almighty.

¹⁶ Take heed lest He rebuke you: hear this, listen to the voice of words.

³⁴ Because the wise in heart shall say this, and a wise man listens to my word.

¹¹ who makes me to differ from the four-footed beasts of the earth, and from the birds of the sky? ¹² There they shall cry, and none shall hear, even because of the insolence of wicked men.

¹ Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of evil men.

⁴ He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them.

⁹ For there is no truth in their mouth; their heart is vain; their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have used deceit.

¹⁴ Behold, the wicked has travailed with unrighteousness; he has conceived trouble, and has brought forth iniquity. ¹⁵ He has opened a pit, and dug it up, and he shall fall into the ditch which he has made. ¹⁶ His trouble shall return on his own head, and his unrighteousness shall come down on his own crown.

¹⁶ The Lord is known as executing judgments: the sinner is taken in the works of his hands. Pause.

⁸ He lies in wait with rich men in secret places, in order to slay the innocent: his eyes are set against the poor. ⁹ He lies in wait in secret as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to ravish the poor, to ravish the poor when he draws him after him: he will bring him down in his snare. ¹⁰ He will bow down and fall when he has mastered the poor.

¹² They laid wait for me as a lion ready for prey, and like a lion's whelp dwelling in secret places.

⁴¹ They cried, but there was no deliverer: even to the Lord, but He hearkened not to them.

⁷ The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls; the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.

¹² Who is the man that fears the Lord? He shall instruct him in the way which he has chosen. ¹³ His soul shall dwell in prosperity; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

⁴ I have not sat with the council of vanity, and shall by no means enter in with transgressors. ⁵ I have hated the assembly of evildoers; and will not sit with the ungodly.

¹ A Psalm of David. To You, O Lord, have I cried; my God, be not silent toward me; lest You be silent toward me, and so I should be likened to them that go down to the pit.

²⁰ You will hide them in the secret of Your presence from the vexation of man; You will screen them in a tabernacle from the contradiction of tongues.

¹¹ Come, you children, hear me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

⁷ For without cause they have hid for me their destructive snare; without a cause they have reproached my soul.

²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, Aha, aha, it is pleasing to our soul; neither let them say, We have devoured him.

¹³ But the Lord shall laugh at him; for He foresees that his day will come.

⁴ I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my riddle on the harp.

¹⁶ But to the sinner God has said, Why do you declare My ordinances, and take up My covenant in your mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing you have hated instruction, and have cast My words behind you. ¹⁸ If you saw a thief, you ran along with him, and have cast in your lot with adulterers.

²³ But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloody and crafty men shall not live out half their days; but I will hope in You, O Lord.

¹ For the end, concerning the people that were removed from the sanctuary, by David for a memorial, when the Philistines caught him in Gath. Have mercy upon me, O God; for man has trodden me down; all the day long his warring has afflicted me. ² My enemies have trodden me down all the day from the dawning of the day; for there are many warring against me.

⁶ They will dwell near and hide themselves; they will watch my steps, accordingly as I have waited patiently in my soul.

³ He sent from heaven and saved me; He reproached them that trampled on me; God has sent forth His mercy and His truth;

⁹ Before your pots you can feel the white thorn, He shall swallow you up as living, as in His wrath.

⁵ They have set up for themselves an evil matter, they have given counsel to hide snares; they have said, Who shall see them? ⁶ They have searched out iniquity; they have wearied themselves with searching diligently, a man shall approach and the heart is deep,

²² Let their table before them be for a snare, and for a recompense, and for a stumbling block.

² I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter dark sayings which have been from the beginning.

³⁴ When He slew them, they sought Him; and they returned and sought diligently after God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their Helper, and the Most High God was their Redeemer. ³⁶ Yet they loved Him only with their mouth, and lied to Him with their tongue.

¹¹ But My people hearkened not to My voice; and Israel gave no heed to Me.

¹³ If My people had hearkened to Me, if Israel had walked in My ways,

⁶ A foolish man will not know, and a senseless man will not understand this. ⁷ When the sinners spring up as the grass, and all the workers of iniquity have watched; it is that they may be utterly destroyed forever.

⁸ Understand now, you simple among the people; and you fools, at length be wise.

¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God, and provoked the counsel of the Most High.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and all that act accordingly have a good understanding; His praise endures forever and ever.

⁷ He shall not be afraid of any evil report; his heart is ready to trust in the Lord. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not fear, till he shall see his desire upon his enemies.

⁹ How shall a young man direct his way? By keeping Your words.

⁹⁸ You have made me wiser than my enemies in Your commandment; for it is mine forever. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for Your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more that the aged; because I have sought out Your commandments. ¹⁰¹ I have kept back my feet from every evil way, that I might keep Your words.

¹¹¹ I have inherited Your testimonies forever; for they are the joy of my heart.

¹³⁰ The manifestation of Your words will enlighten, and instruct the simple.

¹⁷³ Let Your hand be prompt to save me; for I have chosen Your commandments.

⁷ Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit has failed; do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like them that go down to the pit.

²² Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name we cast out demons, and in Your name we did many mighty works?' ²³ "And then I will confess to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you who work iniquity!'

² And behold, they were carrying a paralytic to Him lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Have courage, child; your sins are forgiven you."

¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

²² But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that hour.

²⁷ "What I say to you in the dark, say in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

² And great crowds were gathered together to Him, so that He got into the boat and sat; and the crowd stood on the shore.

¹⁰ And the disciples approached and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" ¹¹ He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. ¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. ¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.' ¹⁶ "But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears, because they hear. ¹⁷ For assuredly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and they did not see, and to hear what you hear, and they did not hear."

³⁴ Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He did not speak to them, ³⁵ so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world."

⁵¹ Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." ⁵² Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe having become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old things."

⁵⁴ And coming into His hometown, He began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and the miracles?

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"

¹⁷ Then Jesus answered and said, "O unfaithful and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me."

⁵ "But not caring, they went away, one to his own field, another to his business. ⁶ And the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.

³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

³ Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people were assembled into the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and plotted to take Jesus by guile and kill Him.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" ⁵ And throwing the silver coins in the sanctuary, he departed; and going away, he hanged himself.

¹¹ And He said to them, "Unto you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come to be spoken in parables,

³⁴ And apart from a parable He did not speak to them, however, privately to His disciples, he would explain all things.

³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by him.

⁴² But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

¹³ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, by how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,'

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." ¹⁶ Then He told a parable to them, saying: "The field of a certain rich man produced well. ¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' ²¹ So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

²⁵ When once the Master of the house has risen up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and answering He will say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from.' ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' ²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out.

¹⁸ But they all with one accord began to excuse themselves. The first said to him, 'I bought a field, and I must go and see it. I ask you, have me excused.' ¹⁹ And another said, 'I bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you, have me excused.' ²⁰ Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

²⁴ For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste of my supper.' "

¹⁹ "Now there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself splendidly every day. ²⁰ But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate, ²¹ and longing to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. And even the dogs came and would lick his sores. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am suffering in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things, but now here he is comforted and you are suffering.

⁴² saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things pertaining to your peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.

⁹ But whenever you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately."

¹⁹ By your patient endurance you shall possess your souls.

²³ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing a baby in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath among this people. ²⁴ And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ²⁵ "And there shall be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, as the sea and the waves roar, ²⁶ men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming upon the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, and that Day come upon you unexpectedly. ³⁵ For it will come as a snare on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.

¹⁸ He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed.

¹⁹ Repent therefore and turn back, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that seasons of relaxation may come from the presence of the Lord,

³⁰ by extending Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may occur through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus."

⁵ But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Surely God, the One inflicting wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I speak as a man.)

Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ³⁶ Just as it is written: "For Your sake we are put to death the whole day long; we are accounted as sheep for slaughter." ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, ³⁹ nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²¹ But to Israel he says: "the whole day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people."

¹⁸ For such people do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and through smooth speech and flattering, they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

³⁰ But from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption;

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from the midst of them and be separated," says the Lord. "Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you."

⁷ Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for what a man sows, this also he will reap. ⁸ For he who sows to his flesh, from his own flesh will reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap everlasting life.

¹¹ And have no partnership with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

³ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

³ For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as labor pains upon the woman that is pregnant, and they shall by no means escape.

⁹ Likewise also that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and discretion, not with braids or gold or pearls or expensive clothing, ¹⁰ but which is fitting for women professing godliness, by means of good works.

³ not given to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not loving money;

⁹ But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some by aspiring have strayed away from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁵ taking recollection of the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.

²² Flee youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be proficient, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work.

⁶ Likewise exhort the young men to be sensible,

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, for those because of their practice have their senses trained for the distinguishing of both good and evil.

³⁸ But the just shall live by faith, and if he withdraws, My soul has no pleasure in him." ³⁹ But we are not of those shrinking back to destruction, but of faith, to the saving of the soul.

You stored up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Indeed, the wages of the laborers who reaped your fields, which were kept back by you, cry out, and the cries of the reapers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You lived luxuriously upon the earth and you lived riotously, you nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

⁵ who by the power of God are being guarded through faith for the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

³ Of whom let it not be the outward adorning of braiding of hair, and wearing of gold, or of putting on of fine clothes, ⁴ rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible attitude of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious before God.

³ knowing this first: that mockers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,

Be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁹ "The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her shall weep and mourn over her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing from afar on account of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! Because in one hour your judgment came.' ¹¹ "And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; ¹³ and cinnamon and incense, perfume and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. ¹⁴ The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the sumptuous things and the gaudy things have perished from you, and you shall by no means find them no more. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, shall stand at afar on account of the fear of her torment, both weeping and sorrowing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, she who was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and having been gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls!

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. The one who desires, let him take the water of life freely.
