¹ A Song of Degrees. In my affliction I cried to the Lord, and He hearkened to me. ² Deliver my soul, O Lord, from unjust lips, and from a deceitful tongue. ³ What should be given to you, and what should be added to you, for your crafty tongue? ⁴ Sharpened weapons of the mighty, with coals of the desert. ⁵ Woe is me, that my sojourning is prolonged; I have dwelled among the tents of Kedar. ⁶ My soul has long been a sojourner; ⁷ I was peaceable among them that hated peace; when I spoke to them, they warred against me without a cause.

² The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Elisa, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ismael, according to the names of their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael was Nabajoth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

²³ I will gather evils upon them, and will fight with My weapons against them. ²⁴ They shall be consumed with hunger and the devouring of birds, and there shall be irremediable destruction: I will send forth against them the teeth of wild beasts, with the rage of serpents creeping on the ground.

³⁰ And Saul was exceedingly angry with Jonathan, and said to him, You son of a traitorous woman! For do I not know that you are an accomplice with the son of Jesse to yourself, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, your kingdom shall not be established: now then send and take the young man, for he shall surely die! ³² And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done? ³³ And Saul lifted up his spear against Jonathan to kill him, so Jonathan knew that this evil was determined on by his father to kill David.

And I would not kill you, but I spared you, and said, I will not lift up my hand against my master, for he is the Lord's anointed. ^{11 (24:12)} And behold, the skirt of your mantle is in my hand, I cut off the skirt, and did not kill you. Know then and see this day, there is no evil in my hand, nor impiety, nor rebellion; and I have not sinned against you, yet you lay snares for my life, to take it.

¹ And Samuel died, and all Israel assembled, and lamented him, and they buried him in his house in Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the Wilderness of Maon.

² And Saul arose, and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, and with him went three thousand men chosen out of Israel, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. ³ And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah in front of Jeshimon, by the way, and David dwelt in the wilderness. And David saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. ⁴ And David sent spies, and ascertained that Saul had come prepared out of Keila.

¹⁹ I am a peaceable one of the strong ones in Israel; but you seek to destroy a city and a mother city in Israel: why do you seek to ruin the inheritance of the Lord?

⁸ For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? Will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved?

¹³ And on it He has fitted the instruments of death; He has completed His arrows for the raging ones.

⁶ And when I was afflicted I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: He heard my voice out of His holy temple, and my cry shall enter before Him, into His ears.

⁷ O Lord, in Your good pleasure You added strength to my beauty; but You turned away Your face, and I was troubled. ⁸ To You, O Lord, will I cry; and to my God will I make supplication.

¹⁴ Turn away from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ Unjust witnesses arose, and asked me of things I knew not.

²⁰ For to me they spoke peaceably, but imagined deceits in their anger.

⁵ Your weapons are sharpened, O Mighty One, (the nations shall fall under You) they are in the heart of the king's enemies.

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of affliction; and I shall deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Pause.

² your tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor you have worked deceit. ³ You have loved wickedness more than goodness; unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause. ⁴ You have loved all words of destruction, and a deceitful tongue. ⁵ Therefore may God destroy you forever, may He pluck you up and utterly remove you from your dwelling, and your root from the land of the living. Pause.

²⁰ He has reached forth his hand for retribution; they have profaned His covenant.

⁴ and He has delivered my soul from the midst of the lion's whelps; I lay down to sleep, though troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they shall utter a voice with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips; for who, they say, has heard?

² Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day when I shall call upon You, speedily hear me.

¹³ Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and He saved them out of their distresses.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. O God, pass not over my praise in silence; ² for the mouth of the sinner and the mouth of the crafty have been opened against me; they have spoken against me with a crafty tongue.

⁴ Instead of loving me, they falsely accused me; but I continued to pray.

³ The pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me; I found affliction and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called on the name of the Lord — O Lord, deliver my soul.

⁵ I called on the Lord out of affliction; and He hearkened to me, and brought me into a wide place.

¹ A Song of Degrees. I lifted up my eyes to the mountains — from where my help shall come.

¹ A Song of Degrees. Many a time have they warred against me from my youth, let Israel now say:

¹ A Song of Degrees. O Lord, my heart is not exalted, neither have my eyes been haughtily raised: neither have I exercised myself in great matters, nor in things too wonderful for me.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man; deliver me from the unjust man. ² Who have devised injustice in their hearts; all the day they prepared war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue as the tongue of a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Pause.

⁹ As for the head of them that surround me, the mischief of their lips shall cover them. ¹⁰ Coals of fire shall fall upon them on the earth; and You shall cast them down in afflictions; they shall not bear up under them. ¹¹ A talkative man shall not prosper on the earth: evils shall hunt the unrighteous man to destruction.

⁹ In the mouth of ungodly men is a snare to citizens, but the understanding of righteous men is prosperous.

¹² A man void of understanding sneers at his fellow citizens, but a sensible man is quiet.

¹⁸ An ungodly man performs unrighteous works, but the seed of the righteous is a reward of truth.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but he that deals faithfully is accepted by Him.

²⁷ But the perverse bears destruction upon his own mouth: a foolish man digs up evil for himself, and treasures fire on his own lips.

⁸ Fear casts down the slothful, and the souls of the effeminate shall hunger.

²¹ Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that rule it shall eat the fruits thereof.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and whosoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.

⁵ I am dark, but beautiful, you daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

³ Today is a day of affliction, and reproach, and rebuke, and anger; for the pangs have come upon the travailing woman, but she has not the strength to bring forth. ⁴ May the Lord your God hear the words of Rabshakeh, which the king of the Assyrians has sent, to reproach the living God, even to reproach with the words which the Lord your God has heard; therefore you shall pray to your Lord for these that are left.

¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, and read it, and went up to the house of the Lord, and opened it before the Lord. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, saying, ¹⁶ O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, who sits upon the cherubim, You alone are the God of every kingdom of the world; You have made heaven and earth. ¹⁷ Incline Your ear, O Lord, hearken, O Lord; open Your eyes, O Lord, look, O Lord; and behold the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. ¹⁸ For truly, Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have laid waste the whole world, and the countries thereof, ¹⁹ and have cast their idols into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have cast them away. ²⁰ But now, O Lord our God, deliver us from his hands, that every kingdom of the earth may know that You alone are God.

² And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, ³ Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before You in truth, with a true heart, and have done that which was pleasing in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. ⁴ And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, Go and say to Hezekiah, ⁵ Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, and have seen your tears; behold, I will add to your days fifteen years.

⁶ and the camels of Midian and Ephah shall cover you; all from Saba shall come bearing gold, and shall bring frankincense, and they shall proclaim the salvation of the Lord. ⁷ And all the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered, and the rams of Nebaioth shall come; and acceptable sacrifices shall be offered on My altar, and My house of prayer shall be glorified.

² Who would give me a most distant lodge in the wilderness, that I might leave my people, and depart from them? For they all commit adultery, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ And they have bent their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not faithfulness has prevailed upon the earth; for they have gone on from evil to evil, and have not known Me, says the Lord.

⁶ There is usury upon usury, and deceit upon deceit: they would not know Me, says the Lord.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother! You have born me as some man of strife, and at variance with the whole earth. I have not helped others, nor has anyone helped me; my strength has failed among them that curse me.

²⁸ Concerning Kedar, the queen of the palace, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck, thus says the Lord: Arise, and go up to Kedar, and fill the sons of Kedem. ²⁹ They shall take their tents and their sheep, they shall take for themselves their garments, and all their baggage and their camels; and summon destruction against them from every side.

⁶ And you, son of man, fear them not, nor be dismayed at their face (for they will madden and will rise up against you round about, and you dwell in the midst of scorpions), be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their countenance, for they are a provoking house.

¹³ Greece, both the whole world, and the adjacent coasts, these traded with you in the persons of men, and they gave as your merchandise vessels of brass.

²¹ Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, these were your traders with you, bringing camels, lambs, and rams, in which they trade with you.

² Son of man, set your face against Gog, and the land of Magog, Rosh, prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, ³ and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you O Gog, Rosh prince of Meshach and Tubal:

¹ And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, Rosh prince of Meshech and Tubal;

^{2 (2:3)} and said, I cried in my affliction to the Lord my God, and He hearkened unto me, even to my cry out of the belly of hell: You heard my voice.

¹ Alas for me! For I have become as one gathering straw in harvest, and as one gathering grape-gleanings in the vintage, when there is no cluster for me to eat the first-ripe fruit: alas my soul! ² For the godly has perished from the earth; and there is none upright among men: they all quarrel even to blood: they grievously afflict everyone his neighbor.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

³⁶ and 'a man's enemies will be his own household members.'

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his soul?

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the Sanhedrin were seeking false witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death, ⁶⁰ and they did not find any. And though many false witnesses came forward, they did not find any. But at last two false witnesses came forward ⁶¹ and said, "This Man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and after three days to rebuild it.' " ⁶² And standing up the high priest said to Him, "Do You answer nothing? What is it these men are testifying against You?"

⁴⁴ And being in agony, He prayed more fervently. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down onto the ground.

²¹ So what fruit did you have then of which things you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

¹⁸ If possible, as much as depends on you, keeping peace with all men.

¹⁴ For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and who destroyed the dividing wall of separation, ¹⁵ having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that He might create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, ¹⁶ and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, putting to death the enmity in Himself. ¹⁷ And having come, He preached peace to you who were far away and to those near.

³ For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, being enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁷ who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up both prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His fear of God,

¹⁴ Pursue peace and holiness with all people, without which no one shall see the Lord:

⁵ Even so the tongue is a small member and it boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of both beasts and birds, of both reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unrestrainable evil, full of deadly poison.

⁷ and He rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the indecent conduct of lawless men ⁸ (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, tormented his righteous soul by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)--

¹³ "I know your works, and where you live, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith in the days in which Antipas was My faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan is dwelling.

⁸ But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and sinners, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and drug users, and idolaters, and all who are false shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
