¹ I saw that the righteous, the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God. Yea, there is no man that knows either love or hatred, though all are before their face. ² Vanity is in all. There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good, and to the bad; both to the pure, and to the impure; both to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; as is the swearer, even so is he that fears an oath. ³ There is this evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yea, the heart of the sons of men is filled with evil, and madness is in their heart during their life, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand shall find to do, do with all your might; for there is no work nor device nor knowledge nor wisdom in Hades, where you are going.

¹² For surely man also knows not his time; as fish that are taken in an evil net, and as birds that are caught in a snare, even thus the sons of men are snared at an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh; for youth and folly are vanity.

⁶ Who is this that comes up from the wilderness as pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the perfumer?

⁹ And if the Lord of Sabaoth had not left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and been made like Gomorrah.

¹⁰ Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us; therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works. ¹¹ Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

²⁹ And he shall pass by the valley, and shall arrive at Aiath; fear shall seize upon Ramah, the city of Saul.

⁸ The elders shall be troubled, and pangs shall seize them, as of a woman in labor; and they shall mourn one to another, and shall be amazed, and shall change their countenance as a flame. ⁹ For behold, the day of the Lord is coming which cannot be escaped, a day of wrath and anger, to make the world desolate, and to destroy sinners out of it.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion have departed; trembling shall seize the ungodly. Who will tell you that a fire is kindled? Who will tell you of the eternal place?

¹¹ And destruction shall come upon you, and you shall not be aware; there shall be a pit, and you shall fall into it; and grief shall come upon you, and you shall not be able to be clear; and destruction shall come suddenly upon you, and you shall not know.

¹ Has the hand of the Lord no power to save? Or has He made His ear heavy, so that He should not hear?

¹² For go to My place which is in Shiloh, where I caused My name to dwell before, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.

²³ I know, O Lord, that man's way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.

¹ Righteous are You, O Lord, that I may make my defense to You: yet I will speak to You of judgments. Why is it that the way of the ungodly prospers? And all that deal very treacherously are flourishing?

⁷ Our sins have risen up against us. O Lord, do for us for Your name's sake; for our sins are many before You; for we have sinned against You.

³ ( { β}) GIMEL. Judea is gone into captivity by reason of her affliction, and by reason of the abundance of her servitude; she dwells among the nations, she has not found rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her between her oppressors.

³² ( { λ}) CHAPH. For He that has brought down will pity, and that according to the abundance of His mercy.

¹⁰ In you they have uncovered the father's shame; and in you they have humbled her that was set apart for uncleanness. ¹¹ They have dealt unlawfully each one with his neighbor's wife; and each one in ungodliness has defiled his daughter-in-law: and in you they have humbled each one his sister, the daughter of his father.

¹⁵ I will go and return to My place, until they are brought to nought, and then shall they seek My face.

⁹ They have corrupted themselves according to the days of the hill. He will remember their iniquities, He will take vengeance on their sins.

⁹ From the time the hills existed Israel has sinned. There they stood. War waged against the children of iniquity,

¹⁴ Sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn service, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God, and cry earnestly to the Lord,

¹² Now therefore, says the Lord your God, turn to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with lamentation: ¹³ and tear your hearts, and not your garments, and turn to the Lord your God: for He is merciful and compassionate, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy, and relenting of evil. ¹⁴ Who knows if He will return, and repent, and leave a blessing behind Him, even a grain offering and a drink offering to the Lord your God? ¹⁵ Sound the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn service: ¹⁶ gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the infants at the breast: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. ¹⁷ Between the porch and the altar let the priests that minister to the Lord weep, and say, Spare Your people, O Lord, and give not Your heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them, lest they should say among the heathen, Where is their God? ¹⁸ But the Lord was jealous of His land, and spared His people.

³⁰ And I will show wonders in heaven, and upon the earth, blood, and fire, and vapors of smoke.

⁷ And each man said to his neighbor, Come, let us cast lots, and find out for whose sake this mischief is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

⁵ And the men of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. ⁶ And the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from off his throne, and took off his robe, and put on sackcloth, and sat on ashes. ⁷ And proclamation was made, and it was commanded in Nineveh by the king and by his great men, saying, Let not men, or cattle, or oxen, or sheep, taste any thing, nor feed, nor drink water. ⁸ So men and cattle were clothed with sackcloth, and cried earnestly to God; and they turned everyone from their evil way, and from the iniquity that was in their hands, saying, ⁹ Who knows if God will relent, and turn from His fierce anger, and so we shall not perish? ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil ways; and God relented of the evil which He had said He would do to them; and He did it not.

² O Lord, I have heard Your report, and was afraid: I considered Your works, and was amazed: You shall be known between the two living creatures, You shall be acknowledged when the years draw nigh; You shall be manifested when the time is come; when my soul is troubled, You will in wrath remember mercy.

¹⁰ compassing all the earth, and the wilderness from Geba unto Rimmon south of Jerusalem. And Rama shall remain in its place. From the gate of Benjamin to the place of the first gate, to the gate of the corners, and to the tower of Hananel, as far as the king's winepresses,

²⁵ Make friends with your adversary quickly, while you are on the road with him, lest your adversary hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be cast into prison.

¹⁵ "And if your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have won your brother. ¹⁶ But if he does not hear, take along with you one or two more, so that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.' ¹⁷ But if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the assembly. But if he refuses even to hear the assembly, let him be to you as a heathen and a tax collector. ¹⁸ Assuredly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.

⁴⁴ Therefore you also be ready, for in that hour you think not, the Son of Man comes.

⁵⁸ When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make an effort to make a settlement with him on the road, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the bailiff, and the bailiff throw you into prison. ⁵⁹ I tell you, you shall by no means depart from there till you have paid the very last mite."

³¹ Or what king, going to engage another king in battle, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Otherwise, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks the terms for peace.

²⁷ They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also as it happened in the days of Lot; they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;

²⁶ men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming upon the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, and that Day come upon you unexpectedly.

²⁶ And they cast their lots. And the lot fell on Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

³² who, having known the righteous judgment of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also approve of those who practice them.

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,

⁵ But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Surely God, the One inflicting wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I speak as a man.)

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and untraceable are His ways!

¹⁸ If possible, as much as depends on you, keeping peace with all men.

¹ It is actually heard that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even named among the Gentiles--that a man has his father's wife!

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole batch?

¹⁰ Yet I certainly did not mean with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world! ¹¹ But now I write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, who is a fornicator, or covetous person, or an idolater, or abusive person, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a person. ¹² For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

³ For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as labor pains upon the woman that is pregnant, and they shall by no means escape.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

¹² But these, as unreasoning natural animals, having been born for capture and destruction, blaspheme at things which they are ignorant of, and shall be destroyed in their destruction,

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the magnates and the high-ranking military men, and the rich and the mighty, and every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the crags of the mountains. ¹⁶ And they said to the mountains and crags, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb! ¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come, and who shall be able to stand?"

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you participate in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. ⁵ Because her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.

⁸ "On account of this her plagues will come in one day--death, sorrow, and famine. And she shall be burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who has judged her. ⁹ "The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her shall weep and mourn over her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing from afar on account of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! Because in one hour your judgment came.'

³ And a second one said, "Hallelujah! Her smoke goes up forever and ever!"
