¹⁷ For you know that indeed afterward, wishing to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, having sought it out diligently with tears.

³⁰ And it came to pass after Isaac had ceased blessing his son Jacob, just when Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. ³¹ And he also had prepared meats and brought them to his father; and he said to his father, Let my father arise and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me. ³² And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am Esau, your firstborn son. ³³ And Isaac was amazed with very great amazement, and said, Who then is it that has procured venison for me and brought it to me? And I have eaten all of it before you came, and I have blessed him, and he shall be blessed. ³⁴ And it came to pass when Esau heard the words of his father Isaac, he cried out with a great and very bitter cry, and said, Bless me — me also, father! ³⁵ And he said to him, Your brother has come with subtlety, and has taken your blessing. ³⁶ And he said, Rightly was his name called Jacob, for behold, this second time has he supplanted me; he has both taken my birthright, and now he has taken my blessing! And Esau said to his father, Have you not a blessing left for me, father? ³⁷ And Isaac answered and said to Esau, If I have made him your master, and have made all his brethren his servants, and have strengthened him with grain and wine, what then shall I do for you, son? ³⁸ And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, father? Bless me — me also, O my father! And Isaac being troubled, Esau cried aloud and wept. ³⁹ And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above. ⁴⁰ And you shall live by your sword, and shall serve your brother; and there shall be a time when you shall break and loosen his yoke from off your neck. ⁴¹ And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw near, that I may kill my brother Jacob.

²⁴ Since I called, and you did not hear, and I spoke at length, and you gave no heed; ²⁵ but you disdained my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs; ²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you: ²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you. ²⁸ For it shall be that when you call upon me, I will not listen to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me. ²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord: ³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.

³⁰ Call them reprobate silver, because the Lord has rejected them.

²³ "And then I will confess to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you who work iniquity!'

¹¹ Afterward the remaining virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' ¹² "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly I say to you, I do not know you.'

²⁴ Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. ²⁵ When once the Master of the house has risen up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and answering He will say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from.' ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.'

⁴ For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and became partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and have tasted the good word of God and the powerful deeds of the age to come, ⁶ and having fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and hold Him up to contempt.

⁸ but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, of which the end is for burning.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery zeal being about to devour the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone disregarding the law of Moses dies without compassions on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ By how much worse punishment, do you think, will he be deemed worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, and has regarded as common the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
