¹ And Jacob heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob has taken all that was our father's, and of our father's property has he gotten all this glory.

⁸ If he should say thus, The speckled shall be your reward, then all the cattle would bear speckled; and if he should say, The white shall be your reward, then would all the cattle bear white. ⁹ So God has taken away all the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

¹³ Therefore report to my father all my glory in Egypt, and all things that you have seen, and make haste and bring my father down here.

¹¹ And he showed them his wealth, and the glory with which the king had invested him, and how he had caused him to take precedence and bear chief rule in the kingdom.

²⁴ If I made gold my treasure, and if I too trusted the precious stone; ²⁵ and if I also rejoiced when my wealth was abundant, and if I laid my hand on innumerable treasures:

³¹ And if my handmaids have often said, Oh that we might be satisfied with his flesh; (whereas I was very kind:

¹⁴ because of the enemies of Your hand. O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with Your hidden treasures; they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant of their possessions to their babes.

¹⁶ Fear not when a man is enriched, and when the glory of his house is increased. ¹⁷ For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him.

⁴ and He has delivered my soul from the midst of the lion's whelps; I lay down to sleep, though troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

³ who have sharpened their tongues as a sword; they have bent their bow maliciously; ⁴ to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear.

³ What should be given to you, and what should be added to you, for your crafty tongue? ⁴ Sharpened weapons of the mighty, with coals of the desert. ⁵ Woe is me, that my sojourning is prolonged; I have dwelled among the tents of Kedar.

³⁰ A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart, but passion is a corruption to the bones.

⁴ Wrath is merciless and anger sharp, but envy can bear nothing.

⁴ And I saw all labor, and all the diligent work, that this is a man's envy from his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

¹⁴ Therefore hell has enlarged its desire and opened its mouth without ceasing; and her glorious and great, and her rich and her pestilent men shall go down into it.

²³ Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, and let not the strong man boast in his strength, and let not the rich man boast in his wealth;

⁴⁴ These are all the things they have spoken against you in a proverb, saying,

⁸ Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.

⁴ he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but is morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions,

³ For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, being enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

²⁴ For "All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man is as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away,
