¹ And Elijah the prophet, the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be these years dew nor rain, except by the word of my mouth.

⁸ At that time the Lord separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand near before the Lord, to minister and bless in His name, to this day.

⁴ And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they that had escaped of Ephraim said, You are of Gilead in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh.

¹ And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, and appear before Ahab, and I will bring rain upon the face of the earth.

¹⁰ As the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you; and if they said, He is not here, then has he set fire to the kingdom and its territories, because he has not found you.

¹⁵ And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, today I will appear before him.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As the Lord lives, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.

¹⁴ And Elisha said, As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, unless I regarded the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not have looked on you, nor seen you.

¹⁶ And Elisha said, As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will not take anything. And he pressed him to take something; but he would not.

¹⁸ Lift up your eyes round about, and look on them all; behold, they are gathered together, and have come to you. As I live, says the Lord, you shall clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament, and put them on, as a bride in her attire.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord: If you will return, then will I restore you, and you shall stand before My face. And if you will bring forth the precious from the worthless, you shall be as My mouth; and they shall return to you; but you shall not return to them.

²⁹ for He taught them as one having authority, and not like the scribes.

¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come.

¹⁴ So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others say Elijah, and yet others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

⁴⁷ Some of those standing by, when they heard this, said, "This Man is calling Elijah!"

⁴⁹ But the rest said, "Leave Him alone; let us see if Elijah is coming to save Him."

¹⁷ And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

¹⁹ And the angel answered and said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I was sent to speak to you and to proclaim the good news to you of these things.

²⁵ But I tell you truly, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine all over the land; ²⁶ but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a widow woman.

³⁰ And behold, two men were talking with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,

³³ And it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah," not knowing what he was saying.

⁵⁴ And when they saw this, James and John His disciples said, "Lord, do You wish that we should call down fire from heaven and consume them, as Elijah did?"

³⁶ Watch therefore, praying always that you may be counted worthy to escape everything that is about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

²⁵ And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

²³ For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong, whom also I serve,

² God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying,

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of similar nature to us, and with a prayer, he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months.

⁶ These men have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls during the days of their prophecy; and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.
