²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

¹⁷ And when Pharaoh sent forth the people, God led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines, because it was near; for God said, Lest at any time the people repent when they see war, and return to Egypt.

² Speak to the children of Israel, and let them turn and encamp before the village, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal Zephon: before them shall you encamp by the sea. ³ And Pharaoh will say to his people, As for these children of Israel, they are wandering in the land, for the wilderness has shut them in. ⁴ And I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and he shall pursue after them; and I will be glorified in Pharaoh, and in all his army, and all the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord. And they did so.

² And the Lord said to Joshua, Behold, I deliver Jericho into your power, and its king, and its mighty men. ³ And set the men of war round about it. ⁴ And it shall be that when you shall sound with the trumpet, all the people shall shout together. ⁵ And when they have shouted, the walls of the city shall fall by themselves; and all the people shall enter, each one rushing directly into the city.

² And the Lord said to Gideon, The people with you are many, so that I may not deliver Midian into their hand, lest at any time Israel boast against Me, saying, My hand has saved me. ³ And now speak in the ears of the people, saying, Who is afraid and fearful? Let him turn and depart from Mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and ten thousand were left. ⁴ And the Lord said to Gideon, The people are still too numerous; bring them down to the water, and I will purge them there for you; and it shall come to pass that of whom I shall say to you, This one shall go with you, even he shall go with you; and of whomever I shall say to you, This one shall not go with you, even he shall not go with you. ⁵ And he brought the people down to the water; and the Lord said to Gideon, Whoever shall lap of the water with his tongue as if a dog should lap, you shall set him apart; likewise whoever shall bow down upon his knees to drink. ⁶ And the number of those that lapped with their hand to their mouth was three hundred men; and all the rest of the people bowed upon their knees to drink water. ⁷ And the Lord said to Gideon, I will save you by the three hundred men that lapped, and I will give Midian into your hand; and all the rest of the people shall go everyone to his place. ⁸ And they took the provision of the people in their hand, and their horns; and he sent away every man of Israel, each to his tent, and he strengthened the three hundred. And the army of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

And the force that was behind them ²⁰ killed each one the man next to him; and each one a second time killed the man next to him. And Syria fled, and Israel pursued them; and the son of Hadad, the king of Syria, escaped on the horse of a horseman. ²¹ And the king of Israel went forth, and took all the horses and the chariots, and attacked the enemy with a great slaughter in Syria. ²² And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said, Strengthen yourself, and observe, and see what you shall do; for in the spring of the year the son of Hadad king of Syria shall come up against you.

⁶ And he answered and spoke to me, saying, This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, not by mighty power, nor by strength, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty. ⁷ Who are you, O great mountain before Zerubbabel, that you should prosper? Whereas I will bring out the stone of the inheritance, its grace equal to My grace.

⁷ And the Lord shall save the tabernacles of Judah as at the beginning, that the boast of the house of David, and the pride of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, may not magnify themselves against Judah. ⁸ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the weak one among them in that day shall be as David, and the house of David as the house of God, as the Angel of the Lord before them.

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and untraceable are His ways! ³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?" ³⁵ "Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be repaid to him?" ³⁶ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be the glory forever! Amen.

¹⁸ For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty. ²⁸ And the base things of the world, and the things having been despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are, ²⁹ so that no flesh may boast before God.

⁴ For although He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we are weak in Him, yet we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.
