³ If one wished to contend with God, he could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

²⁰ Even if I were righteous, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would declare me guilty.

³² For He is not a man like me, that I can answer Him, that we can take each other to court. ³³ Nor is there a mediator between us, to lay his hand upon us both.

² I will say to God: Do not condemn me! Let me know why You prosecute me.

³ If only I knew where to find Him, so that I could go to His seat. ⁴ I would plead my case before Him and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would learn how He would answer, and consider what He would say. ⁶ Would He contend with me in His great power? No, He would certainly take note of me. ⁷ Then an upright man could reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my Judge.

³⁵ (Oh, that I had one to hear me! Here is my signature. Let the Almighty answer me; let my accuser compose an indictment. ³⁶ Surely I would carry it on my shoulder and wear it like a crown. ³⁷ I would give account of all my steps; I would approach Him like a prince.)—

¹³ Why do you complain to Him that He answers nothing a man asks?

¹⁴ If He were to set His heart to it and withdraw His Spirit and breath, ¹⁵ all flesh would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.

² “Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”

¹² Who can discern his own errors? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.

¹² For evils without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed within me.

¹⁵ For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite. ¹⁶ For I will not accuse you forever, nor will I always be angry; for then the spirit of man would grow weak before Me, with the breath of those I have made.

²⁰ But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why did You make me like this?”

⁸ If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

²⁰ Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.
