¹² Rejoice and exult, because great is your reward in the heavens; for thus they persecuted the prophets before you.

¹ And beware not to do your righteousness before men in order to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward in the presence of your Father in the heavens. ² Therefore when you perform acts of charity, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, they have their recompense.

⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you. ⁵ And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets so that they might be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their recompense.

¹⁶ And whenever you fast, do not be downcast in countenance like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so that they might appear to men as fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their recompense.

⁴¹ The one receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive the reward of a prophet, and the one receiving a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive the reward of a righteous man. ⁴² And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall certainly not lose his reward.”

²⁷ For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory His Father, with His angels, and then He will give to each according to his deeds.

³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the farmers having taken his servants, one they beat, and one they killed, and one they stoned. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. ³⁷ And afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ ³⁸ But the farmers having seen the son, said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and gain possession of his inheritance.’

³¹ Thus you bear witness to yourselves that you are sons of those having murdered the prophets. ³² You, then, fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How shall you escape from the sentence of Gehenna? ³⁴ Because of this, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and will crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and will persecute from town to town; ³⁵ so that upon you shall come all the righteous blood being poured out upon the earth, from the blood of the righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. ³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those having been sent to her! How often would I have gathered together your children, the way in which a hen gathers together her chicks under the wings, and you were not willing!

²³ Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy; for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers according to these things used to treat the prophets likewise.

³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil.

⁴⁷ Woe to you, for you build the tombs of the prophets, yet your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ So you are witnesses and consent to the works of your fathers; for indeed they killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Because of this also, the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’ ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets having been poured out from the foundation of the world might be charged against this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the one having perished between the altar and the house. Yes, I say to you, it will be required of this generation.

³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets, and stoning those having been sent to her, how often I have wanted to gather your children, the way that a hen gathers her brood under the wings, and you were not willing.

⁴¹ Therefore indeed they departed from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

⁵¹ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, also do you. ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those having foretold about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers,

²⁵ Now toward midnight, Paul and Silas praying, were singing praises to God. And the prisoners were listening to them.

³ And not only so, but also we glory in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

⁸ Now the one planting and the one watering are one, and each will receive the own reward, according to the own labor.

¹⁷ For the momentary lightness of our affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory, far surpassing to excessiveness.

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in the sufferings for you, and I am filling up in my flesh that which is lacking of the tribulations of Christ for His body, which is the church,

²⁴ knowing that you will receive from the Lord the reward of the inheritance. You serve the Lord Christ!

¹⁵ who having killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and having driven us out, and not pleasing God, are also set against all men,

⁶ And without faith, it is impossible to please Him. For it behooves the one drawing near to God to believe that He exists and that He becomes a rewarder to those earnestly seeking Him out.

²⁶ having esteemed the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward.

² Esteem it all joy, my brothers, when you might fall into various trials,

¹³ But as you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also in the revelation of His glory you may rejoice, exulting.
