²⁹ And answering he said, ‘I will not.’ But afterward, having repented, he went.

² and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.” ³ For this is the one having been spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, saying, “A voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight His paths.’” ⁴ And John himself had his garment of camel’s hair, and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ At that time were going out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan, ⁶ and confessing their sins, were being baptized by him in the Jordan River. ⁷ But having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? ⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of the father?” They say, “The first.” Jesus says to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go before you into the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ But having come to himself, he was saying, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have abundance of bread, but here I am perishing with hunger? ¹⁸ Having risen up, I will go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you;

²⁰ but both first to those in Damascus and Jerusalem, and all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, I kept declaring to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

¹¹ And some of you were such. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

¹ And you, being dead in your trespasses and sins— ² in which once you walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience, ³ among whom we all also once lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the things willed of the flesh and of its thoughts; and we were by nature children of wrath even as the rest. ⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, ⁵ made us alive with Christ even we being dead in trespasses—by grace you are saved— ⁶ and He raised us up together and seated us together in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, ⁷ in order that in the coming ages He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, ⁹ not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. ¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you—the Gentiles in the flesh, the ones being called the uncircumcision by that being called the circumcision, made by hands in the flesh— ¹² that at that time you were separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, not having hope and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you, the ones once being far off, have become near by the blood of Christ.

¹⁷ This therefore I say and testify in the Lord: You are no longer to walk as also the Gentiles are walking, in the futility of their mind, ¹⁸ being darkened in the understanding, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance being in them on account of the hardness of their heart, ¹⁹ who, having cast off all feeling, have given themselves up to sensuality for the working of all impurity, with greediness for more.
