1 Corinthians 14 Cross References - BLB

1 Earnestly pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, and especially that you might prophesy. 2 For the one speaking in a tongue speaks not to men, but to God. For no one hears, but in the Spirit he utters mysteries. 3 But the one prophesying speaks to men for edification and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one speaking in a tongue edifies himself, but the one prophesying edifies the church. 5 Now I desire you all to speak in tongues, but rather that you should prophesy. Now the one prophesying is greater than the one speaking in tongues, unless he should interpret, so that the church might receive edification. 6 But now brothers, if I should come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you, unless I should speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching? 7 Even lifeless things giving a sound, whether the flute or harp, unless they give distinction to the sounds, how will it be known what is being piped or being harped? 8 And indeed if the trumpet gives an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle? 9 So also you, unless you give intelligible speech with the tongue, how will it be known what is being spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. 10 There are, if it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none without meaning. 11 Therefore unless I know the power of the sound, I will be a barbarian to the one speaking, and the one speaking, a barbarian to me. 12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, search for the edification of the church, that you should cause it to abound. 13 Therefore he who speaks in a tongue, let him pray that he might interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, but also I will pray with the mind. I will sing praise with the spirit, but also I will sing praise with the mind. 16 Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will the one filling the place of the uninstructed say the “Amen” at your thanksgiving, since he knows not what you say? 17 For truly you are giving thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank God, speaking in tongues more than all of you. 19 But in the church, I desire to speak five words with my mind, that also I might instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers, do not be children in the minds. Yet in the evil, be little children; but in the thinking, be full grown. 21 In the Law it has been written: “By other tongues, and by other lips, I will speak to this people, and not even thus will they hear Me, says the Lord.” 22 So then, tongues are for a sign, not to those believing, but to the unbelieving; but prophecy is not to the unbelieving, but to the believing. 23 Therefore if the whole church gathers together in one place and all should speak in tongues, but uninstructed ones or unbelievers come in, will not they say that you are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or uninstructed should come in, he is convicted by all, he is examined by all, 25 and the secrets of his heart become manifest. And thus having fallen upon his face, he will worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you. 26 What then is it, brothers? When you may come together, each has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks with a tongue, let it be by two or the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him be silent in the church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 And let two or three prophets speak, and let the others discern. 30 But if a revelation should be made to another sitting by, let the first be silent. 31 For you are all able to prophesy one by one, so that all may learn, and all may be exhorted. 32 And the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. 33 For He is not the God of disorder, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, 34 let the women be silent in the churches. For it is not allowed to them to speak, but to be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 But if they desire to learn anything, let them ask the own husbands at home; for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church. 36 Or has the word of God gone out from you? Or has it come to you only? 37 If anyone considers himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things I write to you are the commands of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignored. 39 So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. 40 But let all things be done properly and with order.

Now the one prophesying is greater than the one speaking in tongues, unless he should interpret, so that the church might receive edification.

Ephesians 6:11-18

11 Put on the complete armor of God, for you to be able to stand against the schemes of the devil, 12 because to us the wrestling is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Because of this, take up the complete armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all things, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod the feet with the readiness of the gospel of peace; 16 besides all, having taken up the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 through all prayer and supplication, praying in the Spirit in every season and unto this very thing, watching with all perseverance and supplication for all saints,

2 For the one speaking in a tongue speaks not to men, but to God. For no one hears, but in the Spirit he utters mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:15-16

15 What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, but also I will pray with the mind. I will sing praise with the spirit, but also I will sing praise with the mind. 16 Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will the one filling the place of the uninstructed say the “Amen” at your thanksgiving, since he knows not what you say?

1 Corinthians 14:19

19 But in the church, I desire to speak five words with my mind, that also I might instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

John 4:23-24

1 Corinthians 10:19

19 Then what do I mean? That what is sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?

Ephesians 5:17-20

17 Because of this, do not be foolish, but understand what is the Lord’s will, 18 and not to be drunk with wine in which is debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to each other in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks at all times for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to the God and Father.

1 Corinthians 1:4-8

4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God having been given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in everything you have been enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, 6 as the testimony about Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so as for you not to be lacking in any gift as you eagerly await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who also will sustain you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 and having given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

1 Corinthians 14:14

14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

1 Corinthians 14:23-24

23 Therefore if the whole church gathers together in one place and all should speak in tongues, but uninstructed ones or unbelievers come in, will not they say that you are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or uninstructed should come in, he is convicted by all, he is examined by all,

4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God having been given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in everything you have been enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, 6 as the testimony about Christ was confirmed in you,

1 Corinthians 4:7

7 For who makes you any different? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if also you did receive it, why do you boast as not having received it?

1 Corinthians 14:21-22

21 In the Law it has been written: “By other tongues, and by other lips, I will speak to this people, and not even thus will they hear Me, says the Lord.” 22 So then, tongues are for a sign, not to those believing, but to the unbelieving; but prophecy is not to the unbelieving, but to the believing.

Matthew 18:3

3 and said, “Truly I say to you, if you are not converted and become as the little children, you shall never enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

11 When I was a child, I was speaking like a child, I was thinking like a child, I was reasoning like a child; when I became a man, I did away with the things of the child.

Ephesians 4:14-15

14 so that no longer we might be infants, being tossed by waves and being carried about by every wind of teaching in the cunning, in the craftiness of men with a view to the scheming of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we should grow up in all things into Him who is the head, Christ,

Philippians 1:9

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment,

Hebrews 5:12-13

12 For even by the time you ought to be teachers, you have need of one to teach you again what is the beginning of the principles of the oracles of God; and you have become those having need of milk, and not of solid food. 13 For everyone partaking of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

Hebrews 6:1-3

1 Therefore, having left the beginning teaching of the Christ, we should go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do, if God permits.

1 Peter 2:2

Acts 2:6-12

6 Now of this sound having come about, the multitude came together and was confounded, because each one was hearing them speaking the own language. 7 And they were amazed and were marveling, saying, “Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how do we each hear our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites; and those inhabiting Mesopotamia, also Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around Cyrene; and those visiting from Rome, 11 both Jews and converts; Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God!” 12 And all were amazed, and were perplexed, saying to one another, “What wishes this to be?”

Acts 2:32-36

32 This Jesus God has raised up, to which we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted at the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has poured out this which you are both seeing and hearing. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, 35 until I place Your enemies as a footstool of Your feet.”’ 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”

1 Timothy 1:9

John 1:47-49

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and He says concerning him, “Behold, truly an Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.” 48 Nathanael says to Him, “From where do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip calling you, you being under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are King of Israel.”

1 Corinthians 2:15

15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, but he himself is judged by no one.

Hebrews 4:12-13

12 For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even as far as the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrows, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom is our reckoning.

1 Corinthians 12:7-10

7 Now to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit, for the common profiting. 8 For truly, to one is given a word of wisdom by the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 and to a different one faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another working of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another distinguishing of spirits, and to a different one various kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:4-6

4 The one speaking in a tongue edifies himself, but the one prophesying edifies the church. 5 Now I desire you all to speak in tongues, but rather that you should prophesy. Now the one prophesying is greater than the one speaking in tongues, unless he should interpret, so that the church might receive edification. 6 But now brothers, if I should come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you, unless I should speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in teaching?

1 Corinthians 14:27

27 If anyone speaks with a tongue, let it be by two or the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test all things. Hold fast to the good.

1 John 4:1-3

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ having come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not of God, and this is that of the antichrist, which you heard that is coming, and now is already in the world.

1 Thessalonians 5:19-20

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies,

Romans 1:12

17 But the wisdom from above is indeed first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and of good fruits, impartial, sincere. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those making peace.

1 Corinthians 11:3

3 But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman, and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 11:5

5 And every woman praying or prophesying with the head uncovered dishonors her head; for it is one and the same with having been shaven.

1 Corinthians 11:7-10

7 For truly a man ought not to cover the head, being the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8 For man is not of woman, but woman of man. 9 For truly man was not created on account of the woman, but woman on account of the man. 10 Because of this, the woman ought to have authority on the head, on account of the angels.

Ephesians 5:22-24

22 wives, to the own husbands as to the Lord; 23 for the husband is head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church, He Himself Savior of the body. 24 But even as the church is subjected to Christ, so also wives to the own husbands in everything.

5 self-controlled, pure, keepers at home, kind, being subject to the own husbands, so that the word of God should not be maligned.

1 Peter 3:1-6

1 Likewise wives, be subject to the own husbands so that, even if any are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without word by the conduct of the wives, 2 having witnessed your respectful, pure conduct, 3 whose adorning let not be the external, of braiding of hair and putting around of gold, or putting on of garments, 4 but the hidden man of the heart, in the imperishable of the gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth before God. 5 For in this way formerly, the holy women also hoping in God used to adorn themselves, being subject to the own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom you have become children, doing good and not fearing any consternation.

1 Peter 3:7

7 Husbands do likewise, dwelling with them according to knowledge, as with a weaker vessel, with the female, rendering honor as joint-heirs also of the grace of life, so as for your prayers not to be hindered.

Acts 13:1-3

1 Now there were prophets and teachers in Antioch in the church being there, both Barnabas and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, and Manaen brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 Now as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart then to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then having fasted and having prayed and having laid the hands on them, they sent them off.

Acts 15:35-36

35 But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming the good news, the word of the Lord, with many others also. 36 Now after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, “Indeed, having turned back, let us look after the brothers, how they are, in every city in which we have announced the word of the Lord.”

Acts 16:9-10

9 And a vision appeared to Paul during the night: A certain man of Macedonia was standing and beseeching him and saying, “Having passed over into Macedonia, help us.” 10 Now when he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go forth to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Acts 17:15

15 Now those escorting Paul brought him unto Athens, and having received a command unto Silas and Timothy that as quickly as possible they should come to him, they departed.

Acts 18:1-17

1 And after these things, having departed from Athens, he came to Corinth. 2 And having found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, and Priscilla his wife, recently having come from Italy because of Claudius having commanded all the Jews to depart out of Rome, he came to them, 3 and because of being of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked. For they were tentmakers by the trade. 4 And he was reasoning in the synagogue on every Sabbath, persuading both Jews and Greeks. 5 Now when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, earnestly testifying to the Jews Jesus to be the Christ. 6 But of them opposing and reviling him, having shaken out the garments, he said to them, “Your blood be upon your head; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” 7 And having departed from there, he came to the house of a certain one named Titius Justus, worshiping God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue. 8 And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, with his all household. And many of the Corinthians hearing believed and were baptized. 9 Now the Lord said to Paul through a vision in the night, “Do not fear, but continue speaking, and do not be silent, 10 because I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, because there are many people to me in this city.” 11 And he remained a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. 12 But Gallio being proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and led him to the judgment seat, 13 saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the Law.” 14 Now Paul being about to open the mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it was some unrighteousness or wicked crime, O Jews, according to reason I would have endured with you. 15 But if it is a question about a word, and names, and in reference to your law, you will see to it yourselves. I resolve not to be a judge of these things.” 16 And he drove them from the judgment seat. 17 Then all of them, having seized Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, began to beat him before the judgment seat. And it mattered nothing to Gallio about these things.

2 Corinthians 10:13-16

13 But we will not boast into the things beyond measure, but according to the measure of the area that God has assigned to us, a measure to reach also as far as you. 14 For we are not overextending ourselves, as not reaching to you. For we came also as far as you in the gospel of Christ, 15 not boasting to the things beyond measure in others’ labors, but having hope of your faith increasing, to be enlarged to abundance among you according to our area, 16 so as to preach the gospel beyond you, not to boast in things already in another’s area.

1 Thessalonians 1:8

8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and in Achaia, but in every place your faith toward God has gone abroad, so as for us to have no need to say anything.

Luke 10:16

16 The one hearing you hears Me; and the one rejecting you rejects Me; and the one rejecting Me rejects the One having sent Me.”

Romans 12:3

3 For through the grace having been given to me, I say to everyone being among you, not to be high-minded above what it behooves you to think, but to think so as to be sober-minded, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

1 Corinthians 7:25

25 Now concerning virgins, I do not have a commandment of the Lord, but I give judgment as having received mercy from the Lord to be trustworthy.

1 Corinthians 7:40

40 But she is more blessed if she should remain in the same manner, according to my judgment; and I think myself also to have the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 8:2

2 If anyone thinks to have known anything, not yet does he know as it is necessary to know.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

2 Corinthians 10:7

7 You are looking at things according to appearance. If anyone is persuaded in himself to be of Christ, let him reckon this within himself again, that as he is of Christ, so also are we.

2 Corinthians 10:12

12 For we dare not to classify or to compare ourselves with some commending themselves. But these, measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves, do not understand.

2 Corinthians 11:4

4 For if indeed the one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive a different spirit whom you did not receive, or a different gospel which you did not accept, you are bearing with it well.

2 Corinthians 11:12-15

12 But what I do, I will continue doing, so that I might cut off the opportunity of those desiring an opportunity that they might be found as also we in what they are boasting. 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.

Galatians 6:8

8 For the one sowing to his own flesh, from the flesh will reap decay. But the one sowing to the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

1 Finally then, brothers, we implore and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that just as you have received from us in what manner it behooves you to walk and to please God, just as even you walk now, so you should abound more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: You are to abstain from sexual immorality; 4 each of you to know how to win mastery over his own vessel in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust, as also the Gentiles, not knowing God; 6 not to go beyond and to overreach his brother in the matter, because the Lord is avenging concerning all these things, just as also we told you before and thoroughly warned. 7 For God has not called us to impurity, but into holiness. 8 So then, the one rejecting this does not disregard man but God, the One also giving His Holy Spirit to you.

2 Peter 3:2

2 to be mindful of the words having been spoken beforehand by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,

1 John 4:6

6 We are of God. The one knowing God listens to us. He who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Jude 1:17

17 But you, beloved, remember the words having been spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Matthew 7:6

6 Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the pigs, lest they shall trample upon them with their feet, and having turned, tear you to pieces.

Matthew 15:14

14 Leave them! They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

1 Timothy 6:3-5

3 If anyone teaches another doctrine and does not draw near, being sound in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching according to godliness, 4 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but unhealthy about controversies and disputes about words, out of which come envy, strife, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant frictions among men corrupted in mind and destitute of the truth, holding godliness to be a means of gain.

2 Timothy 4:3-4

3 For there will be a time when they will not endure sound teaching, but according to the own desires, having an itching ear, they will gather around them teachers to suit themselves, 4 and indeed they will turn away from hearing the truth, and will be turned aside unto myths.

Revelation 22:11-12

11 The one being unrighteous, let him be unrighteous still; and he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he who is righteous, let him practice righteousness still; and he who is holy, let him be holy still.” 12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each as is his work.

Romans 13:13

13 We should walk properly, as in daytime; not in reveling and drinking, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in dissension and jealousy.

1 Corinthians 11:34

34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you might not come together for judgment; and I will set in order the other things as soon as I might come.

1 Corinthians 14:26-33

As in all the churches of the saints,

Colossians 2:5

5 Truly indeed, if I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing and seeing your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

Titus 1:5

5 On account of this I left you in Crete, that you might set in order the things lacking and might appoint elders in every town, as I directed you,
