¹⁵ Πάντα (All things are) καθαρὰ (pure) τοῖς (to the) καθαροῖς (pure); τοῖς (to those) δὲ (however) μεμιαμμένοις (being defiled) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving), οὐδὲν (nothing) καθαρόν (is pure); ἀλλὰ (Instead), μεμίανται (are defiled) αὐτῶν (their) καὶ (both) ὁ (-) νοῦς (mind) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) συνείδησις (conscience).

¹⁸ τὰ (The things) δὲ (however) ἐκπορευόμενα (going forth) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth), ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) ἐξέρχεται (come forth), κἀκεῖνα (and these) κοινοῖ (defile) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man).

³⁹ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him), “Νῦν (Now) ὑμεῖς (you) οἱ (-) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside) τοῦ (of the) ποτηρίου (cup) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) πίνακος (dish) καθαρίζετε (you cleanse), τὸ (-) δὲ (and) ἔσωθεν (the inside) ὑμῶν (of you) γέμει (is full) ἁρπαγῆς (of plundering) καὶ (and) πονηρίας (wickedness). ⁴⁰ ἄφρονες (Fools)! οὐχ (Did not) ὁ (the One) ποιήσας (having made) τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) ἔσωθεν (inside) ἐποίησεν (make)? ⁴¹ πλὴν (But of) τὰ (the things) ἐνόντα (being within) δότε (give) ἐλεημοσύνην (alms), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), πάντα (all things) καθαρὰ (clean) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐστιν (are).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) πάλιν (came again) ἐκ (for) δευτέρου (the second time) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him): “Ἃ (What) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐκαθάρισεν (has cleansed), σὺ (you) μὴ (not) κοίνου (call common).”

¹⁴ Οἶδα (I know) καὶ (and) πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) ἐν (in the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ὅτι (that) οὐδὲν (nothing is) κοινὸν (unclean) δι’ (of) ἑαυτοῦ (itself); εἰ (if) μὴ (not) τῷ (to him) λογιζομένῳ (reckoning) τι (anything) κοινὸν (unclean) εἶναι (to be), ἐκείνῳ (to that one) κοινόν (unclean it is).

²⁰ μὴ (Not) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) βρώματος (food), κατάλυε (destroy) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). πάντα (All things) μὲν (indeed are) καθαρά (clean), ἀλλὰ (but) κακὸν (it is wrong) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) τῷ (-) διὰ (through) προσκόμματος (a stumbling block) ἐσθίοντι (eating).

²³ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) διακρινόμενος (doubting), ἐὰν (if) φάγῃ (he eats), κατακέκριται (has been condemned), ὅτι (because it is) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) πίστεως (faith); πᾶν (everything) δὲ (now) ὃ (that is) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) πίστεως (faith), ἁμαρτία (sin) ἐστίν (is).

¹² “Πάντα (All things) μοι (to me) ἔξεστιν (are lawful),” ἀλλ’ (but) οὐ (not) πάντα (all things) συμφέρει (do profit). “Πάντα (All things) μοι (to me) ἔξεστιν (are lawful),” ἀλλ’ (but) οὐκ (not) ἐγὼ (I) ἐξουσιασθήσομαι (will be mastered) ὑπό (by) τινος (anything). ¹³ “Τὰ (The) βρώματα (foods) τῇ (for the) κοιλίᾳ (belly) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοιλία (belly) τοῖς (the) βρώμασιν (for foods),” ὁ (-) δὲ (but) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (both) ταύτην (this) καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these) καταργήσει (will destroy); τὸ (-) δὲ (and) σῶμα (the body is) οὐ (not) τῇ (-) πορνείᾳ (for sexual immorality), ἀλλὰ (but) τῷ (for the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) τῷ (for the) σώματι (body).

⁷ Ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all is) ἡ (this) γνῶσις (knowledge). τινὲς (Some) δὲ (now), τῇ (-) συνηθείᾳ (by habit) ἕως (until) ἄρτι (now), τοῦ (of the) εἰδώλου (idol) ὡς (as of) εἰδωλόθυτον (a thing sacrificed to an idol) ἐσθίουσιν (eat); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) συνείδησις (conscience) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀσθενὴς (weak) οὖσα (being), μολύνεται (it is defiled).

²³ “Πάντα (All things) ἔξεστιν (are lawful),” ἀλλ’ (but) οὐ (not) πάντα (all things) συμφέρει (are profitable). “Πάντα (All things) ἔξεστιν (are lawful),” ἀλλ’ (but) οὐ (not) πάντα (all) οἰκοδομεῖ (edify).

²⁵ Πᾶν (Everything) τὸ (-) ἐν (in) μακέλλῳ (the meat market) πωλούμενον (being sold), ἐσθίετε (eat), μηδὲν (nothing) ἀνακρίνοντες (inquiring) διὰ (on account of) τὴν (-) συνείδησιν (conscience),

³¹ Εἴτε (Whether) οὖν (therefore) ἐσθίετε (you eat), εἴτε (or) πίνετε (drink), εἴτε (or) τι (whatever) ποιεῖτε (you do), πάντα (all things) εἰς (to the) δόξαν (glory) Θεοῦ (of God) ποιεῖτε (do).

²⁷ Ὥστε (Therefore) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) ἐσθίῃ (should eat) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) ἢ (or) πίνῃ (should drink) τὸ (the) ποτήριον (cup) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἀναξίως (unworthily), ἔνοχος (guilty) ἔσται (will be) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) αἵματος (blood) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord). ²⁸ δοκιμαζέτω (Let examine) δὲ (however) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἑαυτόν (himself), καὶ (and) οὕτως (in this manner) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ἄρτου (bread) ἐσθιέτω (let him eat), καὶ (and) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ποτηρίου (cup) πινέτω (let him drink). ²⁹ ὁ (The one) γὰρ (for) ἐσθίων (eating) καὶ (and) πίνων (drinking) κρίμα (judgment) ἑαυτῷ (on himself), ἐσθίει (eats) καὶ (and) πίνει (drinks) μὴ (not) διακρίνων (discerning) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body).

³ κωλυόντων (forbidding) γαμεῖν (to marry), ἀπέχεσθαι (commanding to abstain) βρωμάτων (from foods) ἃ (that) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἔκτισεν (created) εἰς (for) μετάλημψιν (reception) μετὰ (with) εὐχαριστίας (thanksgiving) τοῖς (by the) πιστοῖς (faithful) καὶ (and) ἐπεγνωκόσι (those knowing) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth). ⁴ ὅτι (For) πᾶν (every) κτίσμα (creature) Θεοῦ (of God) καλόν (is good), καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing is) ἀπόβλητον (to be rejected), μετὰ (with) εὐχαριστίας (thanksgiving) λαμβανόμενον (being received);

⁵ διαπαρατριβαὶ (and constant frictions) διεφθαρμένων (corrupted) ἀνθρώπων (among men) τὸν (-) νοῦν (in mind), καὶ (and) ἀπεστερημένων (destitute) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth), νομιζόντων (holding) πορισμὸν (a means of gain) εἶναι (to be) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness).

¹⁴ πόσῳ (how much) μᾶλλον (more) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὃς (who) διὰ (through) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) αἰωνίου (eternal), ἑαυτὸν (Himself) προσήνεγκεν (offered) ἄμωμον (unblemished) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), καθαριεῖ (will purify) τὴν (the) συνείδησιν (conscience) ἡμῶν (of us) ἀπὸ (from) νεκρῶν (dead) ἔργων (works), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) λατρεύειν (to serve) Θεῷ (God) ζῶντι (the living)!

²² προσερχώμεθα (we should draw near) μετὰ (with) ἀληθινῆς (a sincere) καρδίας (heart) ἐν (in) πληροφορίᾳ (full assurance) πίστεως (of faith), ῥεραντισμένοι (having been sprinkled clean) τὰς (our) καρδίας (hearts) ἀπὸ (from) συνειδήσεως (a conscience) πονηρᾶς (evil), καὶ (and) λελουσμένοι (having been washed) τὸ (our) σῶμα (body) ὕδατι (with water) καθαρῷ (pure).
