¹⁵ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δουλείας (of bondage) πάλιν (again) εἰς (to) φόβον (fear), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (the Spirit) υἱοθεσίας (of divine adoption as sons), ἐν (by) ᾧ (whom) κράζομεν (we cry), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba)! ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!”

³⁶ καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba), ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father), πάντα (all things are) δυνατά (possible) σοι (to You); παρένεγκε (take away) τὸ (the) ποτήριον (cup) τοῦτο (this) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me); ἀλλ’ (but) οὐ (not) τί (what) ἐγὼ (I) θέλω (will), ἀλλὰ (but) τί (what) σύ (You).”

²⁸ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (then) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἀνακράξας (having cried out), προσέπεσεν (he fell down before) αὐτῷ (Him), καὶ (and) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud) εἶπεν (said), “Τί (What) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) σοί (to You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (the) Ὑψίστου (Most High)? δέομαί (I implore) σου (of You) μή (not) με (me) βασανίσῃς (You might torment)!”

³⁷ Καὶ (And) ἠρώτησεν (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) ἅπαν (all) τὸ (the) πλῆθος (multitude) τῆς (of the) περιχώρου (surrounding region) τῶν (of the) Γερασηνῶν (Gerasenes) ἀπελθεῖν (to depart) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them), ὅτι (because) φόβῳ (with fear) μεγάλῳ (great) συνείχοντο (they were seized). αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (now), ἐμβὰς (having entered) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (the boat), ὑπέστρεψεν (turned back).

² Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὅταν (When) προσεύχησθε (you pray) λέγετε (say): ‘Πάτερ (Father), ἁγιασθήτω (hallowed be) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You). Ἐλθέτω* (Come) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) σου (of You). τὸ (-)

⁴² λέγων (saying), “Πάτερ (Father), εἰ (if) βούλει (You are willing), παρένεγκε (take away) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (-) ποτήριον (cup) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me). πλὴν (Yet) μὴ (not) τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) μου (of Me), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (-) σὸν (of You) γινέσθω (be done).”

⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come), ἐκεῖνος (He) ἐλέγξει (will convict) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) περὶ (concerning) ἁμαρτίας (sin), καὶ (and) περὶ (concerning) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness), καὶ (and) περὶ (concerning) κρίσεως (judgment):

¹⁷ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μή (Not) μου (Me) ἅπτου (touch), οὔπω (not yet) γὰρ (for) ἀναβέβηκα (have I ascended) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father); πορεύου (go) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) εἰπὲ (say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀναβαίνω (I am ascending) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and to) Θεόν (God) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) Θεὸν (God) ὑμῶν (of you).’”

³⁷ Ἀκούσαντες (Having heard) δὲ (then), κατενύγησαν (they were pierced) τὴν (to the) καρδίαν (heart); εἶπόν (they said) τε (then) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Πέτρον (Peter) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) λοιποὺς (other) ἀποστόλους (apostles), “Τί (What) ποιήσωμεν (shall we do), ἄνδρες (men), ἀδελφοί (brothers)?”

²⁹ Αἰτήσας (Having called for) δὲ (now) φῶτα (lights), εἰσεπήδησεν (he rushed in), καὶ (and) ἔντρομος (terrified) γενόμενος (having become), προσέπεσεν (he fell down before) τῷ (-) Παύλῳ (Paul) καὶ (and) ‹τῷ› (-) Σιλᾷ (Silas).

¹⁶ αὐτὸ (Himself) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) συμμαρτυρεῖ (bears witness with) τῷ (the) πνεύματι (spirit) ἡμῶν (of us) ὅτι (that) ἐσμὲν (we are) τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God).

²³ οὐ (Not) μόνον (only so) δέ (now), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (even) αὐτοὶ (ourselves), τὴν (the) ἀπαρχὴν (firstfruit) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἔχοντες (having), ἡμεῖς (we) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (ourselves) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (ourselves) στενάζομεν (groan), υἱοθεσίαν (divine adoption as sons) ἀπεκδεχόμενοι (awaiting), τὴν (the) ἀπολύτρωσιν (redemption) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) ἡμῶν (of us).

¹² ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now), οὐ (not) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐλάβομεν (have received), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (who is) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἵνα (that) εἰδῶμεν (we may know) τὰ (the things) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) χαρισθέντα (having been granted) ἡμῖν (to us),

⁵ ἵνα (that) τοὺς (those) ὑπὸ (under) νόμον (the Law) ἐξαγοράσῃ (He might redeem), ἵνα (so that) τὴν (the) υἱοθεσίαν (divine adoption as sons) ἀπολάβωμεν (we might receive). ⁶ Ὅτι (Because) δέ (now) ἐστε (you are) υἱοί (sons), ἐξαπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us), κρᾶζον (crying out), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba), ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!” ⁷ ὥστε (So) οὐκέτι (no longer) εἶ (you are) δοῦλος (a slave), ἀλλὰ (but) υἱός (a son); εἰ (if) δὲ (now) υἱός (a son), καὶ (also) κληρονόμος (an heir) διὰ (through) Θεοῦ (God).

⁵ προορίσας (having predestined) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (for) υἱοθεσίαν (divine adoption as sons) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), εἰς (to) αὐτόν (Himself), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) εὐδοκίαν (good pleasure) τοῦ (of the) θελήματος (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἔδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δειλίας (of cowardice), ἀλλὰ (but) δυνάμεως (of power), καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (of love), καὶ (and) σωφρονισμοῦ (of self-control).

¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery).

¹⁸ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) προσεληλύθατε (you have come to) ψηλαφωμένῳ (that being touched) καὶ (and) κεκαυμένῳ (having been kindled) πυρὶ (with fire), καὶ (and) γνόφῳ (to darkness), καὶ (and) ζόφῳ (to gloom), καὶ (and) θυέλλῃ (to storm), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) σάλπιγγος (of a trumpet) ἤχῳ (to the sound), καὶ (and) φωνῇ (to a voice) ῥημάτων (of words), ἧς (which) οἱ (those) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) παρῃτήσαντο (excused themselves), μὴ (asking not) προστεθῆναι (to be addressed) αὐτοῖς (to them) λόγον (the word), ²⁰ οὐκ (not) ἔφερον (they could bear) γὰρ (for) τὸ (that) διαστελλόμενον (being commanded): “Κἂν (If even) θηρίον (a beast) θίγῃ (should touch) τοῦ (the) ὄρους (mountain), λιθοβοληθήσεται (it shall be stoned).” ²¹ καί (And) οὕτω (so) φοβερὸν (fearful) ἦν (was) τὸ (the thing) φανταζόμενον (appearing that) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) εἶπεν (said), “Ἔκφοβός (Greatly afraid) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ἔντρομος (trembling).” ²² Ἀλλὰ (But) προσεληλύθατε (you have come to) Σιὼν (Zion) ὄρει (Mount), καὶ (and) πόλει (the city) Θεοῦ (of God) ζῶντος (the living), Ἰερουσαλὴμ (the Jerusalem) ἐπουρανίῳ (heavenly), καὶ (and) μυριάσιν (to myriads) ἀγγέλων (of angels), ²³ πανηγύρει (to the assembly), καὶ (and) ἐκκλησίᾳ (to the church) πρωτοτόκων (of the firstborn) ἀπογεγραμμένων (having been enrolled) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), καὶ (and) Κριτῇ (to the judge) Θεῷ (God) πάντων (of all), καὶ (and) πνεύμασι (to the spirits) δικαίων (of the righteous) τετελειωμένων (having been perfected), ²⁴ καὶ (and) διαθήκης (of a covenant) νέας (new) μεσίτῃ (the mediator), Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus), καὶ (and) αἵματι (to the blood) ῥαντισμοῦ (of sprinkling) κρεῖττον (better things) λαλοῦντι (speaking) παρὰ (than) τὸν (that of) Ἅβελ (Abel).

¹⁹ σὺ (You) πιστεύεις (believe) ὅτι (that) εἷς (one) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (-) Θεός (God). καλῶς (Well) ποιεῖς (you are doing)! καὶ (Even) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons) πιστεύουσιν (believe that), καὶ (and) φρίσσουσιν (shudder)!

¹⁸ Φόβος (Fear) οὐκ (no) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) ἀγάπῃ (love), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (-) τελεία (perfect) ἀγάπη (love) ἔξω (out) βάλλει (casts) τὸν (-) φόβον (fear), ὅτι (because) ὁ (the) φόβος (fear) κόλασιν (punishment) ἔχει (has); ὁ (the one) δὲ (now) φοβούμενος (fearing), οὐ (not) τετελείωται (has been perfected) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) ἀγάπῃ (love).
