⁵ δι’ (through) οὗ (whom) ἐλάβομεν (we have received) χάριν (grace) καὶ (and) ἀποστολὴν (apostleship) εἰς (unto) ὑπακοὴν (obedience) πίστεως (of faith) ἐν (among) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) ὑπὲρ (on behalf of) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

³ Λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) χάριτος (grace) τῆς (-) δοθείσης (having been given) μοι (to me) παντὶ (to everyone) τῷ (-) ὄντι (being) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), μὴ (not) ὑπερφρονεῖν (to be high-minded) παρ’ (above) ὃ (what) δεῖ (it behooves you) φρονεῖν (to think), ἀλλὰ (but) φρονεῖν (to think) εἰς (so as) τὸ (-) σωφρονεῖν (to be sober-minded), ἑκάστῳ (to each) ὡς (as) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐμέρισεν (has allotted) μέτρον (a measure) πίστεως (of faith).

⁶ Ἔχοντες (We are having) δὲ (however) χαρίσματα (gifts) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσαν (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us) διάφορα (different): εἴτε (if) προφητείαν (prophecy), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἀναλογίαν (proportion) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith);

¹⁰ Κατὰ (According to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσάν (having been given) μοι (to me), ὡς (as) σοφὸς (a wise) ἀρχιτέκτων (master builder) θεμέλιον (the foundation) ἔθηκα (I have laid); ἄλλος (another) δὲ (however) ἐποικοδομεῖ (is building upon it). ἕκαστος (Each one) δὲ (however) βλεπέτω (let take heed) πῶς (how) ἐποικοδομεῖ (he builds upon it).

¹⁰ χάριτι (By the grace) δὲ (however) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰμι (I am) ὅ (what) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἡ (-) εἰς (toward) ἐμὲ (me) οὐ (not) κενὴ (void) ἐγενήθη (has been). ἀλλὰ (Rather), περισσότερον (more abundantly) αὐτῶν (than them) πάντων (all) ἐκοπίασα (I toiled), οὐκ (not) ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ‹ἡ› (that was) σὺν (with) ἐμοί (me).

⁹ καὶ (and) γνόντες (having known) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσάν (having been given) μοι (to me), Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Κηφᾶς (Cephas) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John), οἱ (those) δοκοῦντες (esteemed) στῦλοι (pillars) εἶναι (to be), δεξιὰς (the right hands) ἔδωκαν (gave) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) Βαρνάβα (Barnabas), κοινωνίας (of fellowship), ἵνα (that) ἡμεῖς (we should go) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles); αὐτοὶ (they) δὲ (however) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) περιτομήν (circumcision).

⁷ οὗ (of which) ἐγενήθην (I became) διάκονος (servant) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) δωρεὰν (gift) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τῆς (-), δοθείσης (having been given) μοι (to me) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐνέργειαν (working) τῆς (of the) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ⁸ Ἐμοὶ (To me), τῷ (the) ἐλαχιστοτέρῳ (very least) πάντων (of all) ἁγίων (saints), ἐδόθη (was given) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) αὕτη (this): τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles) εὐαγγελίσασθαι (to preach) τὸ (the) ἀνεξιχνίαστον (unsearchable) πλοῦτος (riches) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

¹¹ κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (of the) μακαρίου (blessed) Θεοῦ (God), ὃ (with which) ἐπιστεύθην (have been entrusted) ἐγώ (I). ¹² Χάριν (Thankfulness) ἔχω (I have) τῷ (for the One) ἐνδυναμώσαντί (having strengthened) με (me), Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), ὅτι (that) πιστόν (faithful) με (me) ἡγήσατο (He esteemed), θέμενος (having appointed me) εἰς (to) διακονίαν (service), ¹³ τὸ (-) πρότερον (formerly) ὄντα (being) βλάσφημον (a blasphemer), καὶ (and) διώκτην (a persecutor), καὶ (and) ὑβριστήν (insolent); ἀλλὰ (but) ἠλεήθην (I was shown mercy), ὅτι (because) ἀγνοῶν (being ignorant), ἐποίησα (I did it) ἐν (in) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief). ¹⁴ ὑπερεπλεόνασεν (Surpassingly increased) δὲ (then) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), μετὰ (with) πίστεως (the faith) καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (love), τῆς (that are) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) ὑποτιθέμενος (laying before) τοῖς (the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers), καλὸς (good) ἔσῃ (you will be) διάκονος (a servant) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἐντρεφόμενος (being nourished) τοῖς (in the) λόγοις (words) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) καλῆς (good) διδασκαλίας (teaching) ᾗ (that) παρηκολούθηκας (you have closely followed).

⁶ Δι’ (For) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) ἀναμιμνῄσκω (I remind) σε (you) ἀναζωπυρεῖν (to kindle anew) τὸ (the) χάρισμα (gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) ἐπιθέσεως (laying on) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) μου (of me).

¹⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) ὑπομίμνῃσκε (remind them), διαμαρτυρόμενος (solemnly charging them) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) μὴ (not) λογομαχεῖν (to quarrel about words), ἐπ’ (for) οὐδὲν (nothing) χρήσιμον (profitable) ἐπὶ (but to) καταστροφῇ (the subversion) τῶν (of those) ἀκουόντων (hearing).

¹ Ὑπομίμνῃσκε (Remind) αὐτοὺς (them) ἀρχαῖς (to rulers), ἐξουσίαις (to authorities), ὑποτάσσεσθαι (to be subject), πειθαρχεῖν (to be obedient); πρὸς (for) πᾶν (every) ἔργον (work) ἀγαθὸν (good), ἑτοίμους (ready) εἶναι (to be);

²² Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἀνέχεσθε (bear with) τοῦ (the) λόγου (word) τῆς (-) παρακλήσεως (of exhortation); καὶ (only) γὰρ (for) διὰ (in) βραχέων (few words) ἐπέστειλα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you).

¹⁰ ἕκαστος (each) καθὼς (as) ἔλαβεν (has received) χάρισμα (a gift), εἰς (to) ἑαυτοὺς (each other) αὐτὸ (them) διακονοῦντες (serving), ὡς (as) καλοὶ (good) οἰκονόμοι (stewards) ποικίλης (of the manifold) χάριτος (grace) Θεοῦ (of God): ¹¹ εἴ (if) τις (anyone) λαλεῖ (speaks), ὡς (as) λόγια (oracles) Θεοῦ (of God); εἴ (if) τις (anyone) διακονεῖ (serves), ὡς (as) ἐξ (of) ἰσχύος (strength) ἧς (which) χορηγεῖ (supplies) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things) δοξάζηται (may be glorified) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ᾧ (to whom) ἐστιν (be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

¹² Διὰ (Through) Σιλουανοῦ (Silvanus), ὑμῖν (to you) τοῦ (the) πιστοῦ (faithful) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) ὡς (as) λογίζομαι (I regard him), δι’ (through) ὀλίγων (few words) ἔγραψα (I have written), παρακαλῶν (exhorting) καὶ (and) ἐπιμαρτυρῶν (testifying) ταύτην (this) εἶναι (to be) ἀληθῆ (the true) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰς (in) ἣν (which) στῆτε (you stand).

¹² Διὸ (Therefore) μελλήσω (I will be ready) ἀεὶ (always) ὑμᾶς (you) ὑπομιμνῄσκειν (to remind) περὶ (concerning) τούτων (these things), καίπερ (though) εἰδότας (knowing them) καὶ (and) ἐστηριγμένους (having been strengthened) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) παρούσῃ (being present in you) ἀληθείᾳ (truth). ¹³ δίκαιον (Right) δὲ (now) ἡγοῦμαι (I esteem it), ἐφ’ (as) ὅσον (long as) εἰμὶ (I am) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) τῷ (-) σκηνώματι (tabernacle), διεγείρειν (to stir up) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (by) ὑπομνήσει (putting you in remembrance), ¹⁴ εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) ταχινή (impending) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἀπόθεσις (putting off) τοῦ (of the) σκηνώματός (tabernacle) μου (of me), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐδήλωσέν (has made clear) μοι (to me). ¹⁵ σπουδάσω (I will be diligent) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) ἑκάστοτε (at every time), ἔχειν (to have) ὑμᾶς (for you) μετὰ (after) τὴν (-) ἐμὴν (my) ἔξοδον (departure), τὴν (-) τούτων (these things) μνήμην (a lasting remembrance) ποιεῖσθαι (to make).

¹ Ταύτην (This) ἤδη (now), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), δευτέραν (is the second) ὑμῖν (to you) γράφω (I am writing) ἐπιστολήν (letter), ἐν (in) αἷς (which) διεγείρω (I am stirring up) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (in) ὑπομνήσει (putting you in remembrance) τὴν (-) εἰλικρινῆ (pure) διάνοιαν (mind), ² μνησθῆναι (to remember) τῶν (the) προειρημένων (having been spoken beforehand) ῥημάτων (words)— ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἁγίων (holy) προφητῶν (prophets) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) τῶν (-) ἀποστόλων (apostles) ὑμῶν (through your)— ἐντολῆς (commandment) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior),

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) μακροθυμίαν (patience) σωτηρίαν (as salvation) ἡγεῖσθε (esteem), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) ἀγαπητὸς (beloved) ἡμῶν (of us) ἀδελφὸς (brother) Παῦλος (Paul), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) δοθεῖσαν (having been given) αὐτῷ (to him) σοφίαν (wisdom), ἔγραψεν (wrote) ὑμῖν (to you),

Γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), νεανίσκοι (young men), ὅτι (because) νενικήκατε (you have overcome) τὸν (the) πονηρόν (evil one). Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), παιδία (little children), ὅτι (because) ἐγνώκατε (you know) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ¹⁴ Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), πατέρες (fathers), ὅτι (because) ἐγνώκατε (you know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning). Ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you), νεανίσκοι (young men), ὅτι (because) ἰσχυροί (strong) ἐστε (you are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) νενικήκατε (you have overcome) τὸν (the) πονηρόν (evil one).

¹³ Ταῦτα (These things) ἔγραψα (have I written) ὑμῖν (to you) ἵνα (so that) εἰδῆτε (you may know) ὅτι (that) ζωὴν (life) ἔχετε (you have) αἰώνιον (eternal), τοῖς (to those) πιστεύουσιν (believing) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

³ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), πᾶσαν (all) σπουδὴν (diligence) ποιούμενος (using) γράφειν (to write) ὑμῖν (to you) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (-) κοινῆς (common) ἡμῶν (of us) σωτηρίας (salvation), ἀνάγκην (necessity) ἔσχον (I had) γράψαι (to write) ὑμῖν (to you), παρακαλῶν (exhorting you) ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι (to contend earnestly) τῇ (for the) ἅπαξ (once for all) παραδοθείσῃ (having been delivered) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints) πίστει (faith). ⁴ παρεισέδυσαν* (Came in stealthily) γάρ (for) τινες (certain) ἄνθρωποι (men), οἱ (those) πάλαι (long ago) προγεγραμμένοι (having been designated) εἰς (unto) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (-) κρίμα (condemnation), ἀσεβεῖς (ungodly ones), τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us) χάριτα (grace) μετατιθέντες (changing) εἰς (into) ἀσέλγειαν (sensuality), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) μόνον (only) Δεσπότην (master) καὶ (and) Κύριον (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἀρνούμενοι (denying). ⁵ Ὑπομνῆσαι (To remind) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you) βούλομαι (I want), εἰδότας (having known) ‹ὑμᾶς› (you) ἅπαξ (at one time) «πάντα (all this), ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς» (Jesus) λαὸν (a people) ἐκ (out of) γῆς (the land) Αἰγύπτου (of Egypt) σώσας (having saved), τὸ (-) δεύτερον (afterward) τοὺς (those) μὴ (not) πιστεύσαντας (having believed), ἀπώλεσεν (He destroyed).
