⁵ ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything) ἐπλουτίσθητε (you have been enriched) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him), ἐν (in) παντὶ (all) λόγῳ (speech) καὶ (and) πάσῃ (all) γνώσει (knowledge),

¹ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῶν (the things) εἰδωλοθύτων (sacrificed to idols), οἴδαμεν (we know) ὅτι (indeed) πάντες (all) γνῶσιν (knowledge) ἔχομεν (we have). ἡ (-) γνῶσις (Knowledge) φυσιοῖ (puffs up), ἡ (-) δὲ (but) ἀγάπη (love) οἰκοδομεῖ (builds up).

⁷ Ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all is) ἡ (this) γνῶσις (knowledge). τινὲς (Some) δὲ (now), τῇ (-) συνηθείᾳ (by habit) ἕως (until) ἄρτι (now), τοῦ (of the) εἰδώλου (idol) ὡς (as of) εἰδωλόθυτον (a thing sacrificed to an idol) ἐσθίουσιν (eat); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) συνείδησις (conscience) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀσθενὴς (weak) οὖσα (being), μολύνεται (it is defiled).

¹⁰ ἐὰν (If) γάρ (for) τις (anyone) ἴδῃ (sees) σὲ (you), τὸν (-) ἔχοντα (having) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ἐν (in) εἰδωλείῳ (an idol’s temple) κατακείμενον (eating), οὐχὶ (not) ἡ (the) συνείδησις (conscience) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀσθενοῦς (weak) ὄντος (being), οἰκοδομηθήσεται (will be built up), εἰς (so as) τὸ (the) τὰ (things) εἰδωλόθυτα (sacrificed to idols) ἐσθίειν (to eat)?

⁸ ᾧ (To one) μὲν (truly) γὰρ (for) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) δίδοται (is given) λόγος (a word) σοφίας (of wisdom), ἄλλῳ (to another) δὲ (now) λόγος (a word) γνώσεως (of knowledge), κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) Πνεῦμα (Spirit),

² καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ἔχω (I should have) προφητείαν (prophecy) καὶ (and) εἰδῶ (understand) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) πάντα (all), καὶ (and) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γνῶσιν (knowledge), καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ἔχω (I should have) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith), ὥστε (so as) ὄρη (mountains) μεθιστάναι (to remove), ἀγάπην (love) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἔχω (have), οὐθέν (nothing) εἰμι (I am).

⁹ ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) καρπὸς (the fruit) τοῦ (of the) φωτὸς (light is) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) ἀγαθωσύνῃ (goodness) καὶ (and) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (truth)—

⁷ Καθώς (Accordingly), ἐστιν (it is) δίκαιον (right) ἐμοὶ (for me) τοῦτο (this) φρονεῖν (to feel) ὑπὲρ (about) πάντων (all) ὑμῶν (of you), διὰ (since) τὸ (-) ἔχειν (have) με (I) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) ὑμᾶς (you); ἔν (in) τε (both) τοῖς (the) δεσμοῖς (chains) μου (of me), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀπολογίᾳ (defense) καὶ (and) βεβαιώσει (confirmation) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel), συνκοινωνούς (fellow partakers) μου (with me) τῆς (of) χάριτος (grace) πάντας (all) ὑμᾶς (you) ὄντας (are).

¹¹ πεπληρωμένοι (being filled) καρπὸν (with the fruit) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) τὸν (that is) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), εἰς (to) δόξαν (the glory) καὶ (and) ἔπαινον (praise) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁸ ὁ (the one) καὶ (also) δηλώσας (having made known) ἡμῖν (to us) τὴν (-) ὑμῶν (your) ἀγάπην (love) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit). ⁹ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ἀφ’ (from) ἧς (the) ἡμέρας (day) ἠκούσαμεν (we heard), οὐ (not) παυόμεθα (cease) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you) προσευχόμενοι (praying) καὶ (and) αἰτούμενοι (asking) ἵνα (that) πληρωθῆτε (you may be filled with) τὴν (the) ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge) τοῦ (of the) θελήματος (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) καὶ (and) συνέσει (understanding) πνευματικῇ (spiritual), ¹⁰ περιπατῆσαι (to walk) ἀξίως (worthily) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord): εἰς (in) πᾶσαν (all) ἀρεσκείαν (pleasing), ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) ἀγαθῷ (good), καρποφοροῦντες (bringing forth fruit) καὶ (and) αὐξανόμενοι (growing) τῇ (in the) ἐπιγνώσει (knowledge) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God),

¹⁶ Ὁ (The) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ἐνοικείτω (let dwell) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) πλουσίως (richly), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) διδάσκοντες (teaching) καὶ (and) νουθετοῦντες (admonishing) ἑαυτοὺς (each other) ψαλμοῖς (in psalms), ὕμνοις (hymns), ᾠδαῖς (and songs) πνευματικαῖς (spiritual), ἐν (with) τῇ (-) χάριτι (grace) ᾄδοντες (singing), ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), τῷ (to) Θεῷ (God).

¹¹ Διὸ (Therefore) παρακαλεῖτε (encourage) ἀλλήλους (one another) καὶ (and) οἰκοδομεῖτε (build up) εἷς (one) τὸν (-) ἕνα (another), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ποιεῖτε (you are doing).

¹⁴ Παρακαλοῦμεν (We exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), νουθετεῖτε (to admonish) τοὺς (the) ἀτάκτους (unruly), παραμυθεῖσθε (encourage) τοὺς (the) ὀλιγοψύχους (fainthearted), ἀντέχεσθε (help) τῶν (the) ἀσθενῶν (weak), μακροθυμεῖτε (be patient) πρὸς (toward) πάντας (all).

⁵ ὑπόμνησιν (remembrance) λαβὼν (having taken) τῆς (of the) ἐν (within) σοὶ (you) ἀνυποκρίτου (sincere) πίστεως (faith), ἥτις (which) ἐνῴκησεν (dwelt) πρῶτον (first) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) μάμμῃ (grandmother) σου (of you), Λωΐδι (Lois), καὶ (and) τῇ (in the) μητρί (mother) σου (of you), Εὐνίκῃ (Eunice); πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) ἐν (it is in) σοί (you).

³ πρεσβύτιδας (the aged women) ὡσαύτως (likewise), ἐν (in) καταστήματι (behavior) ἱεροπρεπεῖς (reverent), μὴ (not) διαβόλους (slanderers), μηδὲ (not) οἴνῳ (to wine) πολλῷ (much) δεδουλωμένας (being enslaved), καλοδιδασκάλους (teachers of what is good), ⁴ ἵνα (so that) σωφρονίζωσιν (they may train) τὰς (the) νέας (young women) φιλάνδρους (lovers of their husbands) εἶναι (to be), φιλοτέκνους (loving their children),

²¹ Πεποιθὼς (Being persuaded of) τῇ (the) ὑπακοῇ (obedience) σου (of you), ἔγραψά (I write) σοι (to you), εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) καὶ (even) ὑπὲρ (above) ἃ (what) λέγω (I say), ποιήσεις (you will do).

¹² καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for) ὀφείλοντες (you ought) εἶναι (to be) διδάσκαλοι (teachers) διὰ (by) τὸν (the) χρόνον (time), πάλιν (again) χρείαν (need of) ἔχετε (you have) τοῦ (one) διδάσκειν (to teach) ὑμᾶς (you) τινα (what is) τὰ (the) στοιχεῖα (principles) τῆς (of the) ἀρχῆς (beginning) τῶν (of the) λογίων (oracles) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); καὶ (and) γεγόνατε (you have become) χρείαν (need) ἔχοντες (those having) γάλακτος (of milk), [καὶ] (and) οὐ (not) στερεᾶς (of solid) τροφῆς (food).

⁹ Πεπείσμεθα (We are persuaded) δὲ (however) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), τὰ (of) κρείσσονα (better things), καὶ (and) ἐχόμενα (things accompanying) σωτηρίας (salvation), εἰ (if) καὶ (even) οὕτως (like this) λαλοῦμεν (we speak).

²⁴ καὶ (And) κατανοῶμεν (we should think) ἀλλήλους (one another), εἰς (toward) παροξυσμὸν (stirring up) ἀγάπης (to love) καὶ (and) καλῶν (to good) ἔργων (works), ²⁵ μὴ (not) ἐγκαταλείποντες (forsaking) τὴν (the) ἐπισυναγωγὴν (assembling together) ἑαυτῶν (of ourselves) καθὼς (as) ἔθος (is the custom) τισίν (with some), ἀλλὰ (but) παρακαλοῦντες (encouraging one another), καὶ (and) τοσούτῳ (so much) μᾶλλον (more) ὅσῳ (as) βλέπετε (you see) ἐγγίζουσαν (drawing near) τὴν (the) ἡμέραν (Day).

⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸ (very reason) τοῦτο (for this) δὲ (now), σπουδὴν (earnestness) πᾶσαν (all) παρεισενέγκαντες (having brought in), ἐπιχορηγήσατε (supplement) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) τὴν (-) ἀρετήν (virtue), ἐν (into) δὲ (and) τῇ (-) ἀρετῇ (virtue) τὴν (-) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ⁶ ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) γνώσει (knowledge) τὴν (-) ἐγκράτειαν (self-control), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ἐγκρατείᾳ (self-control) τὴν (-) ὑπομονήν (endurance), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness), ⁷ ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) εὐσεβείᾳ (godliness) τὴν (-) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly affection), ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) φιλαδελφίᾳ (brotherly affection) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love). ⁸ ταῦτα (These things) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (in you) ὑπάρχοντα (being) καὶ (and) πλεονάζοντα (abounding), οὐκ (neither) ἀργοὺς (idle) οὐδὲ (nor) ἀκάρπους (unfruitful) καθίστησιν (make you), εἰς (as to) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge).

¹² Διὸ (Therefore) μελλήσω (I will be ready) ἀεὶ (always) ὑμᾶς (you) ὑπομιμνῄσκειν (to remind) περὶ (concerning) τούτων (these things), καίπερ (though) εἰδότας (knowing them) καὶ (and) ἐστηριγμένους (having been strengthened) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) παρούσῃ (being present in you) ἀληθείᾳ (truth).

²¹ οὐκ (Not) ἔγραψα (I have written) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (you know) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (because) οἴδατε (you know) αὐτήν (it), καὶ (and) ὅτι (because) πᾶν (any) ψεῦδος (lie), ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is).

²⁰ Ὑμεῖς (You) δέ (however), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), ἐποικοδομοῦντες (building up) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves), τῇ (in the) ἁγιωτάτῃ (most holy) ὑμῶν (of you) πίστει (faith) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) προσευχόμενοι (praying), ²¹ ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (the love) Θεοῦ (of God) τηρήσατε (keep), προσδεχόμενοι (awaiting) τὸ (the) ἔλεος (mercy) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), εἰς (unto) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal). ²² Καὶ (And) οὓς (those who) μὲν (indeed) ἐλεᾶτε (have mercy on), διακρινομένους (are doubting); ²³ ‹οὓς (others) δὲ› (also) σῴζετε (save), ἐκ (out of) πυρὸς (the fire) ἁρπάζοντες (snatching); οὓς (to others) δὲ (then) ἐλεᾶτε (show mercy) ἐν (with) φόβῳ (fear), μισοῦντες (hating) καὶ (even) τὸν (the) ἀπὸ (by) τῆς (the) σαρκὸς (flesh) ἐσπιλωμένον (having been stained) χιτῶνα (clothing).
