¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄγγελον (an angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (holding) τὴν (the) κλεῖν (key) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἅλυσιν (a chain) μεγάλην (great) ἐπὶ (in) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him). ² καὶ (And) ἐκράτησεν (he seized) τὸν (the) δράκοντα (dragon), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), καὶ (and) ἔδησεν (bound) αὐτὸν (him) χίλια (for a thousand) ἔτη (years). ³ καὶ (And) ἔβαλεν (he cast) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἔκλεισεν (shut) καὶ (and) ἐσφράγισεν (sealed it) ἐπάνω (over) αὐτοῦ (him), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) πλανήσῃ (he should deceive) ἔτι (any longer) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations), ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (were completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). μετὰ (After these) ταῦτα (things), δεῖ (it is necessary for) λυθῆναι (to be released) αὐτὸν (him) μικρὸν (for a little) χρόνον (time). ⁴ ‹Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνους (thrones), καὶ (and) ἐκάθισαν (they sat) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) κρίμα (judgment) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτοῖς (to them), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) πεπελεκισμένων (having been beheaded) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) οἵτινες (those who) οὐ (not) προσεκύνησαν (did worship) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), οὐδὲ (nor) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔλαβον (did take) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτῶν (of them). καὶ (And) ἔζησαν (they lived) καὶ (and) ἐβασίλευσαν (reigned) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (-) χριστοῦ (Christ) χίλια (a thousand) ἔτη› (years). ⁵ Οἱ (The) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead) οὐκ (not) ἔζησαν (lived again) ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). αὕτη (This is) ἡ (the) ἀνάστασις (resurrection) ἡ (-) πρώτη (first). ⁶ μακάριος (Blessed) καὶ (and) ἅγιος (holy is) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) μέρος (a part) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀναστάσει (resurrection) τῇ (-) πρώτῃ (first)! ἐπὶ (Over) τούτων (these) ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) ἐξουσίαν (power), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔσονται (they will be) ἱερεῖς (priests) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (will reign) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) τὰ (a) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years), λυθήσεται (will be released) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) φυλακῆς (prison) αὐτοῦ (of him), ⁸ καὶ (and) ἐξελεύσεται (will go out) πλανῆσαι (to deceive) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) τέσσαρσιν (four) γωνίαις (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (-) Γὼγ (Gog) καὶ (and) Μαγώγ (Magog), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (war), ὧν (of whom) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea). ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἀνέβησαν (they marched up) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) πλάτος (breadth) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) καὶ (and) ἐκύκλευσαν (encircled) τὴν (the) παρεμβολὴν (camp) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἠγαπημένην (having been beloved). καὶ (But) κατέβη (came down) πῦρ (fire) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτούς (them). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil), ὁ (the one) πλανῶν (deceiving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire) καὶ (and) θείου (of sulfur), ὅπου (where are) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσονται (they will be tormented) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνον (a throne) μέγαν (great) λευκὸν (white), καὶ (and) τὸν (the One) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it), οὗ (whose) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) προσώπου (face) ἔφυγεν (fled) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) οὐρανός (heaven), καὶ (and) τόπος (place) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτοῖς (for them). ¹² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) νεκρούς (dead), τοὺς (-) μεγάλους (great) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) μικρούς (small), ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) βιβλία (books) ἠνοίχθησαν (were opened). Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (another) βιβλίον (book) ἠνοίχθη (was opened), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (the one) ζωῆς (of life). καὶ (And) ἐκρίθησαν (were judged) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the things) γεγραμμένων (having been written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) βιβλίοις (books), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹³ καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave up) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἔδωκαν (gave up) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them); καὶ (and) ἐκρίθησαν (they were judged) ἕκαστος (each of them) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) γεγραμμένος (having been written), ἐβλήθη (he was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire).

³¹ καὶ (And) παρεκάλουν (they were begging) αὐτὸν (Him), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπιτάξῃ (he would command) αὐτοῖς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (abyss) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away).

⁴ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἁμαρτησάντων (having sinned), οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (spared), ἀλλὰ (but) σειραῖς* (in chains) ζόφου (of gloomy darkness) ταρταρώσας (having cast them down to Tartarus), παρέδωκεν (delivered them), εἰς (for) κρίσιν (judgment) τηρουμένους (being kept);

⁶ ἀγγέλους (The angels) τε (both) τοὺς (-) μὴ (not) τηρήσαντας (having kept) τὴν (own) ἑαυτῶν (their) ἀρχὴν (domain), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπολιπόντας (having left) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) οἰκητήριον (dwelling), εἰς (unto) κρίσιν (the judgment) μεγάλης (of the great) ἡμέρας (day), δεσμοῖς (in chains) ἀϊδίοις (eternal) ὑπὸ (under) ζόφον (darkness) τετήρηκεν (He keeps),

¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

¹ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πέμπτος (fifth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) εἶδον (I saw) ἀστέρα (a star) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) πεπτωκότα (having fallen) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ἡ (the) κλεὶς (key) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ² καὶ (And) ἤνοιξεν (he opened) τὸ (the) φρέαρ (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss), καὶ (and) ἀνέβη (went up) καπνὸς (smoke) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) φρέατος (pit), ὡς (like) καπνὸς (the smoke) καμίνου (of a furnace) μεγάλης (great), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτώθη (were darkened) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἀὴρ (air) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) καπνοῦ (smoke) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel) ἰσχυρὸν (mighty) καταβαίνοντα (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), περιβεβλημένον (clothed with) νεφέλην (a cloud), καὶ (and) ἡ (a) ἶρις (rainbow) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὡς (was like) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὡς (like) στῦλοι (pillars) πυρός (of fire),

¹ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (having) ἐξουσίαν (authority) μεγάλην (great); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) ἐφωτίσθη (was illuminated) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²⁹ Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἔκραξαν (they cried out), λέγοντες (saying), “Τί (What) ἡμῖν (to us) καὶ (and) σοί (to you), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)? ἦλθες (Are You come) ὧδε (here) πρὸ (before the) καιροῦ (time) βασανίσαι (to torment) ἡμᾶς (us)?”

²⁹ καὶ (And) πᾶς (everyone) ὅστις (who) ἀφῆκεν (has left) οἰκίας (houses), ἢ (or) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers), ἢ (or) ἀδελφὰς (sisters), ἢ (or) πατέρα (father), ἢ (or) μητέρα (mother), ‹ἢ (or) γυναῖκα› (wife), ἢ (or) τέκνα (children), ἢ (or) ἀγροὺς (lands), ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τοῦ (-) μου* (My) ὀνόματός (name), ἑκατονταπλασίονα* (a hundredfold) λήμψεται (will receive), καὶ (and) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) κληρονομήσει (will inherit).

⁷ καὶ (And) κράξας (having cried) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), λέγει (he said), “Τί (What) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) σοί (to You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τοῦ (the) Ὑψίστου (Most High)? ὁρκίζω (I adjure) σε (You) τὸν (-) Θεόν (by God), μή (not) με (me) βασανίσῃς (torment).”

²⁰ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) ἐν (by) δακτύλῳ (the finger) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐγὼ (I) ἐκβάλλω (cast out) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons), ἄρα (then) ἔφθασεν (has come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ²¹ Ὅταν (When) ὁ (the) ἰσχυρὸς (strong man) καθωπλισμένος (being armed) φυλάσσῃ (might guard) τὴν (-) ἑαυτοῦ (his) αὐλήν (house), ἐν (in) εἰρήνῃ (peace) ἐστὶν (are) τὰ (the) ὑπάρχοντα (possessions) αὐτοῦ (of him); ²² ἐπὰν (when) δὲ (however) ἰσχυρότερος (one stronger) αὐτοῦ (than he), ἐπελθὼν (having come upon him), νικήσῃ (shall overcome) αὐτόν (him), τὴν (the) πανοπλίαν (complete armor) αὐτοῦ (of him) αἴρει (he takes away) ἐφ’ (in) ᾗ (which) ἐπεποίθει (he had trusted), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) σκῦλα (plunder) αὐτοῦ (of him) διαδίδωσιν (he divides).

³¹ νῦν (Now) κρίσις (the judgment) ἐστὶν (is) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this); νῦν (now) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (prince) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) ἐκβληθήσεται (will be cast) ἔξω (out).

¹¹ περὶ (concerning) δὲ (now) κρίσεως (judgment), ὅτι (because) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (ruler) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) κέκριται (has been judged).

²⁰ Ὁ (The) δὲ (now) Θεὸς (God) τῆς (-) εἰρήνης (of peace) συντρίψει (will crush) τὸν (-) Σατανᾶν (Satan) ὑπὸ (under) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (in) τάχει (a short time). Ἡ (The) χάρις (grace) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ‹Χριστοῦ› (Christ) μεθ’ (be with) ὑμῶν (you).

¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil),

⁸ Νήψατε (Be sober-minded); γρηγορήσατε (watch). ὁ (The) ἀντίδικος (adversary) ὑμῶν (of You), διάβολος (the devil), ὡς (as) λέων (a lion) ὠρυόμενος (roaring) περιπατεῖ (prowls about), ζητῶν (seeking) τινα (whom) καταπιεῖν (to devour),

¹¹ ἔχουσιν (They have) ἐπ’ (over) αὐτῶν (them) βασιλέα (a king), τὸν (the) ἄγγελον (angel) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ὄνομα (The name) αὐτῷ (of Him) Ἑβραϊστί (in Hebrew) Ἀβαδδών (is Abaddon), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) Ἑλληνικῇ (Greek), ὄνομα (the name) ἔχει (he has) Ἀπολλύων (Apollyon).

⁹ καὶ (And) ἐβλήθη (was thrown out) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ὁ (-) μέγας (great), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὁ (who) καλούμενος (is called) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), ὁ (-) πλανῶν (deceiving) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (inhabited world) ὅλην (whole). ἐβλήθη (He was thrown down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ἐβλήθησαν (were thrown down).

¹³ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἶδεν (saw) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ὅτι (that) ἐβλήθη (he had been thrown down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), ἐδίωξεν (he pursued) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) ἥτις (who) ἔτεκεν (had brought forth) τὸν (the) ἄρσενα (male child).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ἔβαλεν (cast) ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὀπίσω (after) τῆς (the) γυναικὸς (woman) ὕδωρ (water) ὡς (as) ποταμόν (a river), ἵνα (so that) αὐτὴν (her) ποταμοφόρητον (carried away by a flood) ποιήσῃ (he might cause to be).

¹⁷ καὶ (And) ὠργίσθη (was angry) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ἐπὶ (with) τῇ (the) γυναικί (woman), καὶ (and) ἀπῆλθεν (went) ποιῆσαι (to make) πόλεμον (war) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (rest) τοῦ (of the) σπέρματος (children) αὐτῆς (of her) τῶν (-) τηρούντων (keeping) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) ἐχόντων (holding) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). Καὶ (And) ἐστάθη (he stood) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) ἄμμον (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea).

² καὶ (And) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) ὃ (that) εἶδον (I saw) ἦν (was) ὅμοιον (like) παρδάλει (a leopard), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of it) ὡς (like) ἄρκου (a bear’s), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of it) ὡς (like) στόμα (the mouth) λέοντος (of a lion). καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave) αὐτῷ (to it) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) θρόνον (throne) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ἐξουσίαν (authority) μεγάλην (great).

⁴ καὶ (And) προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped) τῷ (the) δράκοντι (dragon), ὅτι (who) ἔδωκεν (had given) τὴν (-) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast); καὶ (and) προσεκύνησαν (they worshiped) τῷ (the) θηρίῳ (beast), λέγοντες (saying), “Τίς (Who) ὅμοιος (is like) τῷ (the) θηρίῳ (beast)? καὶ (And) τίς (who) δύναται (is able) πολεμῆσαι (to make war) μετ’ (against) αὐτοῦ (it)?”

²⁴ ἐγερθήσονται (There will arise) γὰρ (for) ψευδόχριστοι (false Christs) καὶ (and) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets), καὶ (and) δώσουσιν (they will give) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders), ὥστε (so as) πλανῆσαι (to mislead), εἰ (if) δυνατὸν (possible), καὶ (even) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect).

⁶⁶ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) πορευθέντες (having gone), ἠσφαλίσαντο (they made secure) τὸν (the) τάφον (tomb), σφραγίσαντες (having sealed) τὸν (the) λίθον (stone), μετὰ (with) τῆς (the) κουστωδίας (guard).

³ Φοβοῦμαι (I am afraid) δὲ (however), μή (lest) πως (by any means) ὡς (as) ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ἐξηπάτησεν (deceived) Εὕαν (Eve) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πανουργίᾳ (craftiness) αὐτοῦ (of him), φθαρῇ (might be corrupted) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) ὑμῶν (of you) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἁπλότητος (simplicity) καὶ (and) τῆς (the) ἁγνότητος (purity) τῆς (-) εἰς (in) ‹τὸν› (-) Χριστόν (Christ).

¹³ οἱ (-) γὰρ (For) τοιοῦτοι (such are) ψευδαπόστολοι (false apostles), ἐργάται (workers) δόλιοι (deceitful), μετασχηματιζόμενοι (disguising themselves) εἰς (as) ἀποστόλους (apostles) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁴ καὶ (And) οὐ (no) θαῦμα (wonder); αὐτὸς (himself) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) μετασχηματίζεται (masquerades) εἰς (as) ἄγγελον (an angel) φωτός (of light). ¹⁵ οὐ (It is not) μέγα (surprising) οὖν (therefore), εἰ (if) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) διάκονοι (servants) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετασχηματίζονται (masquerade) ὡς (as) διάκονοι (servants) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ὧν (whose) τὸ (-) τέλος (end) ἔσται (will be) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them).

⁹ οὗ (whose) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (-) παρουσία (coming), κατ’ (according to) ἐνέργειαν (the working) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) δυνάμει (power), καὶ (and) σημείοις (in signs), καὶ (and) τέρασιν (in wonders) ψεύδους (of falsehood), ¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἀπάτῃ (deceit) ἀδικίας (of wickedness) τοῖς (unto those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing), ἀνθ’ (in return for) ὧν (which) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they received), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) σωθῆναι (to be saved) αὐτούς (them). ¹¹ καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this), πέμπει (will send) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐνέργειαν (a working) πλάνης (of delusion), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) πιστεῦσαι (to believe) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (what) ψεύδει (is false),

⁸ Ἓν (This one) δὲ (however) τοῦτο (thing) μὴ (not) λανθανέτω (let be hidden from) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), ὅτι (that) μία (one) ἡμέρα (day) παρὰ (with the) Κυρίῳ (Lord is) ὡς (like) χίλια (a thousand) ἔτη (years), καὶ (and) χίλια (a thousand) ἔτη (years) ὡς (like) ἡμέρα (day) μία (one).

¹⁴ καὶ (And) πλανᾷ (it deceives) τοὺς (those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), διὰ (by reason of) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐδόθη (were given) αὐτῷ (to it) ποιῆσαι (to perform) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θηρίου (beast), λέγων (telling) τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ποιῆσαι (to make) εἰκόνα (an image) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast) ὃς (that) ἔχει (has) τὴν (the) πληγὴν (wound) τῆς (of the) μαχαίρης (sword) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (has lived).

¹⁴ εἰσὶν (they are) γὰρ (for) πνεύματα (spirits) δαιμονίων (of demons) ποιοῦντα (performing) σημεῖα (signs), ἃ (which) ἐκπορεύεται (go forth) ἐπὶ (to) τοὺς (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) οἰκουμένης (inhabited world) ὅλης (whole), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (battle) τῆς (of the) ἡμέρας (day) τῆς (-) μεγάλης (great) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τοῦ (the) Παντοκράτορος (Almighty). ¹⁵ “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχομαι (I am coming) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief). μακάριος (Blessed is) ὁ (the one) γρηγορῶν (watching) καὶ (and) τηρῶν (keeping) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) γυμνὸς (naked) περιπατῇ (he should walk) καὶ (and) βλέπωσιν (they might see) τὴν (the) ἀσχημοσύνην (shame) αὐτοῦ (of him).” ¹⁶ Καὶ (And) συνήγαγεν (he gathered together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) τὸν (-) καλούμενον (called) Ἑβραϊστὶ (in Hebrew) Ἁρ¦μαγεδών (Armageddon).

² μεθ’ (with) ἧς (whom) ἐπόρνευσαν (have committed sexual immorality) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ἐμεθύσθησαν (have been made drunk) οἱ (those that) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) τὴν (on the) γῆν (earth) ἐκ (with) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her).”

⁸ Τὸ (The) θηρίον (beast) ὃ (that) εἶδες (you saw) ἦν (was), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (and) μέλλει (is about) ἀναβαίνειν (to come up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (abyss) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀπώλειαν (destruction) ὑπάγει (go); καὶ (and) θαυμασθήσονται (will wonder) οἱ (those) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ὧν (whose) οὐ (not) γέγραπται (are written) τὸ (-) ὄνομα (names) ἐπὶ (in) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), βλεπόντων (seeing) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) ὅτι (which) ἦν (was), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (and yet) παρέσται (will be).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄγγελον (an angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (holding) τὴν (the) κλεῖν (key) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἅλυσιν (a chain) μεγάλην (great) ἐπὶ (in) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him).

⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years), λυθήσεται (will be released) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) φυλακῆς (prison) αὐτοῦ (of him), ⁸ καὶ (and) ἐξελεύσεται (will go out) πλανῆσαι (to deceive) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) τέσσαρσιν (four) γωνίαις (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (-) Γὼγ (Gog) καὶ (and) Μαγώγ (Magog), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (war), ὧν (of whom) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea). ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἀνέβησαν (they marched up) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) πλάτος (breadth) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) καὶ (and) ἐκύκλευσαν (encircled) τὴν (the) παρεμβολὴν (camp) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἠγαπημένην (having been beloved). καὶ (But) κατέβη (came down) πῦρ (fire) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτούς (them). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil), ὁ (the one) πλανῶν (deceiving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire) καὶ (and) θείου (of sulfur), ὅπου (where are) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσονται (they will be tormented) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησαν (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples), λέγοντες (saying), “Τί (Why) οὖν (then) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) λέγουσιν (say) ὅτι (that) Ἠλίαν (Elijah) δεῖ (it behooves) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρῶτον (first)?” ¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said), “Ἠλίας (Elijah) μὲν (indeed) ἔρχεται (comes), καὶ (and) ἀποκαταστήσει (will restore) πάντα (all things). ¹² λέγω (I say) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) Ἠλίας (Elijah) ἤδη (already) ἦλθεν (is come), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐπέγνωσαν (they knew) αὐτὸν (him), ἀλλὰ* (but) ἐποίησαν (did) ἐν (to) αὐτῷ (him) ὅσα (whatever) ἠθέλησαν (they desired). οὕτως (Thus) καὶ (also), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) μέλλει (is about) πάσχειν (to suffer) ὑπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).” ¹³ τότε (Then) συνῆκαν (understood) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ὅτι (that) περὶ (concerning) Ἰωάννου (John) τοῦ (the) Βαπτιστοῦ (Baptist) εἶπεν (He spoke) αὐτοῖς (to them).

²⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὑμεῖς (you) οἱ (-) ἀκολουθήσαντές (having followed) μοι (Me), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) παλινγενεσίᾳ (regeneration), ὅταν (when) καθίσῃ (shall sit down) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπὶ (upon) θρόνου (the throne) δόξης (of glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καθήσεσθε (will sit) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς* (you) ἐπὶ (on) δώδεκα (twelve) θρόνους (thrones), κρίνοντες (judging) τὰς (the) δώδεκα (twelve) φυλὰς (tribes) τοῦ (-) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel).

¹⁰ καὶ (And) τότε (then) σκανδαλισθήσονται (will fall away) πολλοὶ (many), καὶ (and) ἀλλήλους (one another) παραδώσουσιν (they will betray), καὶ (and) μισήσουσιν (will hate) ἀλλήλους (one another);

¹⁶ Ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἡρῴδης (Herod) ἔλεγεν (was saying), “Ὃν (Whom) ἐγὼ (I) ἀπεκεφάλισα (beheaded), Ἰωάννην (John)— οὗτος (he) ἠγέρθη (is risen)!”

²⁷ καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀποστείλας (having sent) ὁ (the) βασιλεὺς (king) σπεκουλάτορα (an executioner), ἐπέταξεν (he commanded) ἐνέγκαι (to be brought) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) ἀπελθὼν (having gone), ἀπεκεφάλισεν (he beheaded) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φυλακῇ (prison),

¹¹ καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτων (they were asking) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying) Ὅτι (-), “Λέγουσιν (Say) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) ὅτι (that) Ἠλίαν (Elijah) δεῖ (it behooves) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρῶτον (first)?”

¹⁷ καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (he) προελεύσεται (will go forth) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (the spirit) καὶ (and) δυνάμει (power) Ἠλίου (of Elijah), ἐπιστρέψαι (to turn) καρδίας (the hearts) πατέρων (of the fathers) ἐπὶ (to) τέκνα (the children), καὶ (and) ἀπειθεῖς (the disobedient) ἐν (to) φρονήσει (the wisdom) δικαίων (of the righteous), ἑτοιμάσαι (to make ready) Κυρίῳ (for the Lord) λαὸν (a people) κατεσκευασμένον (prepared).”

⁷ Ἤκουσεν (Heard of) δὲ (now) Ἡρῴδης (Herod) ὁ (the) τετραάρχης (Tetrarch) τὰ (the things) γινόμενα (being done) πάντα (all), καὶ (and) διηπόρει (was perplexed), διὰ (because) τὸ (-) λέγεσθαι (it was said) ὑπό (by) τινων (some) ὅτι (-) Ἰωάννης (John) ἠγέρθη (has been raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), ⁸ ὑπό (by) τινων (some) δὲ (also) ὅτι (that) Ἠλίας (Elijah) ἐφάνη (had appeared), ἄλλων (by others) δὲ (also) ὅτι (that) προφήτης (a prophet) τις (one) τῶν (of the) ἀρχαίων (ancients) ἀνέστη (had arisen). ⁹ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἡρῴδης (Herod), “Ἰωάννην (John) ἐγὼ (I) ἀπεκεφάλισα (beheaded); τίς (who) δέ (however) ἐστιν (is) οὗτος (this) περὶ (concerning) οὗ (whom) ἀκούω (I hear) τοιαῦτα (such things)?” καὶ (And) ἐζήτει (he was seeking) ἰδεῖν (to see) αὐτόν (Him).

³⁰ ἵνα (so that) ἔσθητε (you may eat) καὶ (and) πίνητε (may drink) ἐπὶ (at) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) μου (of Me) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) καθήσεσθε (may sit) ἐπὶ (on) θρόνων (thrones), τὰς (the) δώδεκα (twelve) φυλὰς (tribes) κρίνοντες (judging) τοῦ (of) Ἰσραήλ (Israel).

¹⁹ ἔτι (Yet) μικρὸν (a little while) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) με (Me) οὐκέτι (no more) θεωρεῖ (sees), ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (however) θεωρεῖτέ (see) με (Me); ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) ζῶ (live), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ζήσετε (will live).

¹⁷ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) τέκνα (children), καὶ (also) κληρονόμοι (heirs), κληρονόμοι (heirs) μὲν (indeed) Θεοῦ (of God), συνκληρονόμοι (joint-heirs) δὲ (now) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), εἴπερ (if indeed) συμπάσχομεν (we suffer with Him), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) συνδοξασθῶμεν (we may be glorified together).

¹⁵ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἡ (the) ἀποβολὴ (rejection) αὐτῶν (of them) καταλλαγὴ (is the reconciliation) κόσμου (of the world), τίς (what will be) ἡ (the) πρόσλημψις (acceptance), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ζωὴ (life) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead)?

² ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἅγιοι (saints) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) κρινοῦσιν (will judge)? καὶ (And) εἰ (if) ἐν (by) ὑμῖν (you) κρίνεται (is to be judged) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world), ἀνάξιοί (unworthy) ἐστε (are you) κριτηρίων (of cases) ἐλαχίστων (of the smallest)? ³ οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἀγγέλους (angels) κρινοῦμεν (we will judge)? μήτιγε (How much more) βιωτικά (the things of this life)?

¹² εἰ (if) ὑπομένομεν (we endure), καὶ (also) συμβασιλεύσομεν* (we will reign together with Him); εἰ (if) ἀρνησόμεθα (we will deny Him), κἀκεῖνος (He also) ἀρνήσεται (will deny) ἡμᾶς (us);

⁹ Ἐγὼ (I) Ἰωάννης (John), ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) συνκοινωνὸς (fellow-partaker) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θλίψει (tribulation) καὶ (and) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) καὶ (and) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) ἐν (in) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἐγενόμην (was) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) νήσῳ (island) τῇ (-) καλουμένῃ (called) Πάτμῳ (Patmos), διὰ (on account of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus).

²¹ Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) καθίσαι (to sit) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne) μου (of Me), ὡς (as) κἀγὼ (I also) ἐνίκησα (overcame) καὶ (and) ἐκάθισα (sat down) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁹ καὶ (And) ᾄδουσιν (they are singing) ᾠδὴν (a song) καινὴν (new), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἄξιος (Worthy) εἶ (are You) λαβεῖν (to take) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (scroll), καὶ (and) ἀνοῖξαι (to open) τὰς (the) σφραγῖδας (seals) αὐτοῦ (of it), ὅτι (because) ἐσφάγης (You were slain), καὶ (and) ἠγόρασας (You purchased) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) αἵματί (blood) σου (of You), ἐκ (out of) πάσης (every) φυλῆς (tribe) καὶ (and) γλώσσης (tongue) καὶ (and) λαοῦ (people) καὶ (and) ἔθνους (nation), ¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐποίησας (You have made) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), βασιλείαν (a kingdom) καὶ (and) ἱερεῖς (priests); καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (they will reign) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).”

⁹ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἤνοιξεν (He opened) τὴν (the) πέμπτην (fifth) σφραγῖδα (seal), εἶδον (I saw) ὑποκάτω (under) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) ἐσφαγμένων (having been slain) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) ἣν (which) εἶχον (they had upheld).

³ καὶ (And) δώσω (I will grant) τοῖς (to the) δυσὶν (two) μάρτυσίν (witnesses) μου (of me), καὶ (and) προφητεύσουσιν (they will prophesy) ἡμέρας (days) χιλίας (a thousand) διακοσίας (two hundred) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), περιβεβλημένοι (clothed in) σάκκους (sackcloth).”

⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελέσωσιν (they shall have completed) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) αὐτῶν (of them), τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) τὸ (-) ἀναβαῖνον (coming up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (abyss) ποιήσει (will make) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) πόλεμον (war), καὶ (and) νικήσει (will overcome) αὐτοὺς (them), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενεῖ (will kill) αὐτούς (them).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) μετὰ (after) τὰς (the) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) ἥμισυ (a half), πνεῦμα (the spirit) ζωῆς (of life) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) ἐν (into) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἔστησαν (they stood) ἐπὶ (upon) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) φόβος (fear) μέγας (great) ἐπέπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τοὺς (those) θεωροῦντας (beholding) αὐτούς (them).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) φωναὶ (voices) μεγάλαι (great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἐγένετο (Has become) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), τοῦ (that of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσει (He will reign) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).”

¹¹ καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἐνίκησαν (have overcome) αὐτὸν (him) διὰ (by reason) τὸ (of the) αἷμα (blood) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb), καὶ (and) διὰ (by reason of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (of the) μαρτυρίας (testimony) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠγάπησαν (they have loved) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτῶν (of them) ἄχρι (unto) θανάτου (death).

¹² καὶ (And) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τοῦ (of the) πρώτου (first) θηρίου (beast) πᾶσαν (all) ποιεῖ (it exercises) ἐνώπιον (on behalf) αὐτοῦ (of it), καὶ (and) ποιεῖ (causes) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling), ἵνα (that) προσκυνήσουσιν (they will worship) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) τὸ (-) πρῶτον (first), οὗ (of whom) ἐθεραπεύθη (had been healed) ἡ (the) πληγὴ (wound) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (fatal) αὐτοῦ (of it). ¹³ Καὶ (And) ποιεῖ (it works) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (even) πῦρ (fire) ποιῇ (it should cause) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβαίνειν (to come down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐνώπιον (in the presence) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men). ¹⁴ καὶ (And) πλανᾷ (it deceives) τοὺς (those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), διὰ (by reason of) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐδόθη (were given) αὐτῷ (to it) ποιῆσαι (to perform) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θηρίου (beast), λέγων (telling) τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ποιῆσαι (to make) εἰκόνα (an image) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast) ὃς (that) ἔχει (has) τὴν (the) πληγὴν (wound) τῆς (of the) μαχαίρης (sword) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (has lived). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to it) δοῦναι (to give) πνεῦμα (breath) τῇ (to the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) λαλήσῃ (should speak) ἡ (the) εἰκὼν (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), καὶ (and) ποιήσῃ (should cause) ἵνα (that) ὅσοι (as many as) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) προσκυνήσωσιν (would worship) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) ἀποκτανθῶσιν (would be killed). ¹⁶ Καὶ (And) ποιεῖ (it causes) πάντας (all) τοὺς (the) μικροὺς (small) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) μεγάλους (great), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πλουσίους (rich) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πτωχούς (poor), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἐλευθέρους (free) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) δούλους (servants), ἵνα (that) δῶσιν (it should give) αὐτοῖς (them) χάραγμα (a mark) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτῶν (of them) τῆς (-) δεξιᾶς (right), ἢ (or) ἐπὶ (on) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁷ καὶ (and) ἵνα (that) μή (no) τις (one) δύνηται (should be able) ἀγοράσαι (to buy) ἢ (or) πωλῆσαι (to sell), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) — τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), ἢ (or) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it).

¹¹ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) καπνὸς (smoke) τοῦ (of the) βασανισμοῦ (torment) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (to) αἰῶνας (ages) αἰώνων (of ages) ἀναβαίνει (goes up); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (have) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτός (night) οἱ (those) προσκυνοῦντες (worshiping) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) λαμβάνει (receives) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it).”

² Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ὡς (something like) θάλασσαν (a sea) ὑαλίνην (of glass) μεμιγμένην (mingled) πυρί (with fire), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) νικῶντας (conquering) ἐκ (over) τοῦ (the) θηρίου (beast), καὶ (and) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) εἰκόνος (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), καὶ (and) ἐκ (over) τοῦ (the) ἀριθμοῦ (number) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it), ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea) τὴν (of the) ὑαλίνην (glass), ἔχοντας (having) κιθάρας (harps) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁶ μακάριος (Blessed) καὶ (and) ἅγιος (holy is) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) μέρος (a part) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀναστάσει (resurrection) τῇ (-) πρώτῃ (first)! ἐπὶ (Over) τούτων (these) ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) ἐξουσίαν (power), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔσονται (they will be) ἱερεῖς (priests) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (will reign) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) τὰ (a) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years).

⁵ καὶ (And) νὺξ (night) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (there will be) ἔτι (there), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (they have) χρείαν (need) φωτὸς (of the light) λύχνου (of a lamp) καὶ (and) φωτὸς (of the light) ἡλίου (of the sun), ὅτι (because) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) φωτίσει (will enlighten) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (they will reign) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).

¹⁴ καὶ (and) μακάριος (blessed) ἔσῃ (you will be), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (nothing) ἔχουσιν (they have) ἀνταποδοῦναί (to repay) σοι (you). ἀνταποδοθήσεται (It will be recompensed) γάρ (for) σοι (to you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀναστάσει (resurrection) τῶν (of the) δικαίων (righteous).”

¹¹ εἴ (if), πως (by any means), καταντήσω (I may attain) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἐξανάστασιν (resurrection) τὴν (-) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (dead).

²⁰ καὶ (And) ἐπιάσθη (was captured) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), καὶ (and) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet), ὁ (the one) ποιήσας (having done) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (him), ἐν (by) οἷς (which) ἐπλάνησεν (he deceived) τοὺς (those) λαβόντας (having received) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) προσκυνοῦντας (worshiping) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), ζῶντες (living) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) οἱ (the) δύο (two) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire), τῆς (-) καιομένης (burning) ἐν (with) θείῳ (brimstone). ²¹ καὶ (And) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (were killed) ἐν (with) τῇ (the) ῥομφαίᾳ (sword) τοῦ (of the One) καθημένου (sitting) ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) ἵππου (horse) τῇ (-) ἐξελθούσῃ (having gone forth) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of him). Καὶ (And) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ὄρνεα (birds) ἐχορτάσθησαν (were filled) ἐκ (with) τῶν (the) σαρκῶν (flesh) αὐτῶν (of them).

⁸ καὶ (and) ἐξελεύσεται (will go out) πλανῆσαι (to deceive) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) τέσσαρσιν (four) γωνίαις (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (-) Γὼγ (Gog) καὶ (and) Μαγώγ (Magog), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (war), ὧν (of whom) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea). ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἀνέβησαν (they marched up) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) πλάτος (breadth) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) καὶ (and) ἐκύκλευσαν (encircled) τὴν (the) παρεμβολὴν (camp) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἠγαπημένην (having been beloved). καὶ (But) κατέβη (came down) πῦρ (fire) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτούς (them).

¹⁵ Ἀκούσας (Having heard) δέ (then) τις (one) τῶν (of those) συνανακειμένων (reclining with Him) ταῦτα (these things), εἶπεν (he said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Μακάριος (Blessed is he) ὅστις (who) φάγεται (will eat) ἄρτον (bread) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

¹ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) οὖν (therefore) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), διὰ (through) τῶν (the) οἰκτιρμῶν (compassions) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), παραστῆσαι (to present) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you) θυσίαν (a sacrifice) ζῶσαν (living), ἁγίαν (holy), «τῷ (-) Θεῷ» (to God) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing), τὴν (which is) λογικὴν (the reasonable) λατρείαν (service) ὑμῶν (of you).

⁵ καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (you yourselves) ὡς (as) λίθοι (stones) ζῶντες (living), οἰκοδομεῖσθε (are being built up) οἶκος (as a house) πνευματικὸς (spiritual) εἰς (into) ἱεράτευμα (a priesthood) ἅγιον (holy), ἀνενέγκαι (to offer) πνευματικὰς (spiritual) θυσίας (sacrifices) εὐπροσδέκτους (acceptable) [τῷ] (-) Θεῷ (to God) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

⁹ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) γένος (are a race) ἐκλεκτόν (chosen), βασίλειον (a royal) ἱεράτευμα (priesthood), ἔθνος (a nation) ἅγιον (holy), λαὸς (a people) εἰς (for His) περιποίησιν (possession), ὅπως (so that) τὰς (the) ἀρετὰς (excellencies) ἐξαγγείλητε (you may proclaim) τοῦ (of the One) ἐκ (out of) σκότους (darkness) ὑμᾶς (you) καλέσαντος (having called), εἰς (to) τὸ (the) θαυμαστὸν (marvelous) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φῶς (light),

⁶ καὶ (and) ἐποίησεν (He has made) ἡμᾶς (us) βασιλείαν (a kingdom), ἱερεῖς (priests) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρὶ (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him) — αὐτῷ (to Him be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κράτος (dominion) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

¹¹ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀδικηθῇ (shall be injured) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) θανάτου (death) τοῦ (-) δευτέρου (second).

¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐποίησας (You have made) αὐτοὺς (them) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), βασιλείαν (a kingdom) καὶ (and) ἱερεῖς (priests); καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (they will reign) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).”

¹³ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνῆς (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), λεγούσης (saying) “Γράψον (Write), ‘Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) οἱ (-) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) ἀποθνῄσκοντες (dying) ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now on).’” “Ναί (Yes),” λέγει (says) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit), “Ἵνα (so that) ἀναπαήσονται (they will rest) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) κόπων (labors) αὐτῶν (of them); τὰ (-) γὰρ (for) ἔργα (the works) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀκολουθεῖ (follow) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them).”

⁴ ‹Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνους (thrones), καὶ (and) ἐκάθισαν (they sat) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) κρίμα (judgment) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτοῖς (to them), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) πεπελεκισμένων (having been beheaded) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) οἵτινες (those who) οὐ (not) προσεκύνησαν (did worship) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), οὐδὲ (nor) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔλαβον (did take) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτῶν (of them). καὶ (And) ἔζησαν (they lived) καὶ (and) ἐβασίλευσαν (reigned) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (-) χριστοῦ (Christ) χίλια (a thousand) ἔτη› (years). ⁵ Οἱ (The) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead) οὐκ (not) ἔζησαν (lived again) ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). αὕτη (This is) ἡ (the) ἀνάστασις (resurrection) ἡ (-) πρώτη (first).

¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire).

⁸ Τοῖς (-) δὲ (But) δειλοῖς (to the cowardly) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving) καὶ (and) ἐβδελυγμένοις (having become abominable) καὶ (and) φονεῦσιν (murderers) καὶ (and) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral) καὶ (and) φαρμάκοις (sorcerers) καὶ (and) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (-) ψευδέσιν (liars), τὸ (the) μέρος (portion) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (is in) τῇ (the) λίμνῃ (lake) τῇ (-) καιομένῃ (burning) πυρὶ (with fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερος (second).”

⁷ “Καὶ (And) Ἰδοὺ (behold), ἔρχομαι (I am coming) ταχύ (quickly). μακάριος (Blessed is) ὁ (the one) τηρῶν (keeping) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τῆς (of the) προφητείας (prophecy) τοῦ (of the) βιβλίου (book) τούτου (this).”

² καὶ (And) ἐκράτησεν (he seized) τὸν (the) δράκοντα (dragon), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), καὶ (and) ἔδησεν (bound) αὐτὸν (him) χίλια (for a thousand) ἔτη (years).

¹² διὸ (Therefore) καὶ (also) ἀφ’ (from) ἑνὸς (one man) ἐγεννήθησαν (were born), καὶ (and) ταῦτα (he) νενεκρωμένου (having been as good as dead), καθὼς (as) τὰ (the) ἄστρα (stars) τοῦ (of) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) τῷ (-) πλήθει (in multitude), καὶ (and) ὡς (as) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) ἡ (-) παρὰ (by) τὸ (the) χεῖλος (shore) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) ἡ (-) ἀναρίθμητος (countless).

¹⁴ εἰσὶν (they are) γὰρ (for) πνεύματα (spirits) δαιμονίων (of demons) ποιοῦντα (performing) σημεῖα (signs), ἃ (which) ἐκπορεύεται (go forth) ἐπὶ (to) τοὺς (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) οἰκουμένης (inhabited world) ὅλης (whole), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (battle) τῆς (of the) ἡμέρας (day) τῆς (-) μεγάλης (great) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τοῦ (the) Παντοκράτορος (Almighty).

³ καὶ (And) ἔβαλεν (he cast) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἔκλεισεν (shut) καὶ (and) ἐσφράγισεν (sealed it) ἐπάνω (over) αὐτοῦ (him), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) πλανήσῃ (he should deceive) ἔτι (any longer) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations), ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (were completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). μετὰ (After these) ταῦτα (things), δεῖ (it is necessary for) λυθῆναι (to be released) αὐτὸν (him) μικρὸν (for a little) χρόνον (time).

¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil), ὁ (the one) πλανῶν (deceiving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire) καὶ (and) θείου (of sulfur), ὅπου (where are) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσονται (they will be tormented) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).

¹⁶ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) εἶπεν (said), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God) τοῦ (the) ζῶντος (living).” ¹⁷ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Μακάριος (Blessed) εἶ (are you), Σίμων (Simon) Βαριωνᾶ (Barjona)! ὅτι (For) σὰρξ (flesh) καὶ (and) αἷμα (blood) οὐκ (not) ἀπεκάλυψέν (revealed it) σοι (to you), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me), ὁ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens). ¹⁸ κἀγὼ (I also) δέ (now) σοι (to you) λέγω (say) ὅτι (that) σὺ (you) εἶ (are) Πέτρος (Peter), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (the) πέτρᾳ (rock) οἰκοδομήσω (I will build) μου (My) τὴν (-) ἐκκλησίαν (church), καὶ (and) πύλαι (the gates) ᾅδου (of hades) οὐ (not) κατισχύσουσιν (will prevail against) αὐτῆς (it).

⁵⁴ Ἰδόντες (Having seen it) δὲ (now), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John) εἶπαν (said), “Κύριε (Lord), θέλεις (will You that) εἴπωμεν (we should call) πῦρ (fire) καταβῆναι (to come down) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ἀναλῶσαι (to consume) αὐτούς (them)?”

²⁹ ᾗ (in that) δὲ (then) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) Λὼτ (Lot) ἀπὸ (from) Σοδόμων (Sodom), ἔβρεξεν (it rained) πῦρ (fire) καὶ (and) θεῖον (brimstone) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ἀπώλεσεν (destroyed) πάντας (all).

⁴³ ὅτι (For) ἥξουσιν (will come) ἡμέραι (days) ἐπὶ (upon) σὲ (you) καὶ (that) παρεμβαλοῦσιν (will cast around) οἱ (the) ἐχθροί (enemies) σου (of you) χάρακά (a barricade) σοι (you); καὶ (and) περικυκλώσουσίν (they will surround) σε (you) καὶ (and) συνέξουσίν (will hem in) σε (you) πάντοθεν (on every side),

²⁰ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἴδητε (you see) κυκλουμένην (being encircled) ὑπὸ (by) στρατοπέδων (encampments) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), τότε (then) γνῶτε (know) ὅτι (that) ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ἡ (the) ἐρήμωσις (desolation) αὐτῆς (of her).

⁸ ἐν (in) πυρὶ (a fire) φλογός (of flame), διδόντος (inflicting) ἐκδίκησιν (vengeance) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) εἰδόσιν (knowing) Θεὸν (God) καὶ (and) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) ὑπακούουσιν (obeying) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus),

¹³ τοίνυν (Therefore) ἐξερχώμεθα (we should go forth) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔξω (outside) τῆς (the) παρεμβολῆς (camp), τὸν (the) ὀνειδισμὸν (reproach) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φέροντες (bearing).

⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) αὐτοὺς (them) θέλει (should desire) ἀδικῆσαι (to harm), πῦρ (fire) ἐκπορεύεται (goes out) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) κατεσθίει (devours) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) αὐτῶν (of them). καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) θελήσῃ (should desire) αὐτοὺς (them) ἀδικῆσαι (to harm), οὕτως (thus) δεῖ (it is necessary) αὐτὸν (for him) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed).

¹³ Καὶ (And) ποιεῖ (it works) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (even) πῦρ (fire) ποιῇ (it should cause) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβαίνειν (to come down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐνώπιον (in the presence) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men).

⁴¹ Τότε (Then) ἐρεῖ (will He say) καὶ (also) τοῖς (to those) ἐξ (on) εὐωνύμων (the left), ‘Πορεύεσθε (Depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me), ‹οἱ› (those) κατηραμένοι (being cursed), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) τὸ (-) αἰώνιον (eternal), τὸ (-) ἡτοιμασμένον (having been prepared) τῷ (for the) διαβόλῳ (devil) καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) ἀγγέλοις (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him).

⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) ἀπελεύσονται (will go away) οὗτοι (these) εἰς (into) κόλασιν (punishment) αἰώνιον (eternal); οἱ (-) δὲ (but) δίκαιοι (the righteous) εἰς (into) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).”

¹⁰ καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (he) πίεται (will drink) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τοῦ (of the) θυμοῦ (anger) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (-) κεκερασμένου (having been mixed) ἀκράτου (undiluted) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ποτηρίῳ (cup) τῆς (of the) ὀργῆς (wrath) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσεται (he will be tormented) ἐν (in) πυρὶ (fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ἐνώπιον (before) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἁγίων (holy), καὶ (and) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb). ¹¹ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) καπνὸς (smoke) τοῦ (of the) βασανισμοῦ (torment) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (to) αἰῶνας (ages) αἰώνων (of ages) ἀναβαίνει (goes up); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (have) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτός (night) οἱ (those) προσκυνοῦντες (worshiping) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) λαμβάνει (receives) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it).”

¹³ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw coming) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) τοῦ (of the) δράκοντος (dragon), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) τοῦ (of the) ψευδοπροφήτου (false prophet), πνεύματα (spirits) τρία (three) ἀκάθαρτα (unclean), ὡς (like) βάτραχοι (frogs);

²⁰ καὶ (And) ἐπιάσθη (was captured) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), καὶ (and) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet), ὁ (the one) ποιήσας (having done) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (him), ἐν (by) οἷς (which) ἐπλάνησεν (he deceived) τοὺς (those) λαβόντας (having received) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) προσκυνοῦντας (worshiping) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), ζῶντες (living) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) οἱ (the) δύο (two) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire), τῆς (-) καιομένης (burning) ἐν (with) θείῳ (brimstone).

² καὶ (And) ἐκράτησεν (he seized) τὸν (the) δράκοντα (dragon), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), καὶ (and) ἔδησεν (bound) αὐτὸν (him) χίλια (for a thousand) ἔτη (years). ³ καὶ (And) ἔβαλεν (he cast) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἔκλεισεν (shut) καὶ (and) ἐσφράγισεν (sealed it) ἐπάνω (over) αὐτοῦ (him), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) πλανήσῃ (he should deceive) ἔτι (any longer) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations), ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (were completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). μετὰ (After these) ταῦτα (things), δεῖ (it is necessary for) λυθῆναι (to be released) αὐτὸν (him) μικρὸν (for a little) χρόνον (time).

⁸ καὶ (and) ἐξελεύσεται (will go out) πλανῆσαι (to deceive) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) τέσσαρσιν (four) γωνίαις (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (-) Γὼγ (Gog) καὶ (and) Μαγώγ (Magog), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (war), ὧν (of whom) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea).

¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) γεγραμμένος (having been written), ἐβλήθη (he was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire).

³⁵ ὁ (The) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) παρελεύσεται (will pass away), οἱ (-) δὲ (but) λόγοι (the words) μου (of Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) παρέλθωσιν (shall pass away).

³¹ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἔλθῃ (comes) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him), τότε (then) καθίσει (He will sit) ἐπὶ (upon the) θρόνου (throne) δόξης (of glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

³⁰ Τοὺς (The) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) χρόνους (times) τῆς (-) ἀγνοίας (of ignorance) ὑπεριδὼν (having overlooked) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τὰ (-) νῦν (now) παραγγέλλει* (He commands) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men) πάντας (all) πανταχοῦ (everywhere) μετανοεῖν (to repent), ³¹ καθότι (because) ἔστησεν (He set) ἡμέραν (a day) ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) μέλλει (He is about) κρίνειν (to judge) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (world) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness), ἐν (by) ἀνδρὶ (a man) ᾧ (whom) ὥρισεν (He appointed), πίστιν (a guarantee) παρασχὼν (having provided) πᾶσιν (to all), ἀναστήσας (having raised) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead).”

⁵ Κατὰ (Because of) δὲ (however) τὴν (the) σκληρότητά (hardness) σου (of you) καὶ (and) ἀμετανόητον (unrepentant) καρδίαν (heart), θησαυρίζεις (you are treasuring up) σεαυτῷ (to yourself) ὀργὴν (wrath) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (the day) ὀργῆς (of wrath) καὶ (and) ἀποκαλύψεως (revelation) δικαιοκρισίας (of righteous judgement) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God),

⁷ οἱ (-) δὲ (But) νῦν (now) οὐρανοὶ (the heavens) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth), τῷ (by the) αὐτῷ (same) λόγῳ (word) τεθησαυρισμένοι (having been stored up) εἰσὶν (exist), πυρὶ (for fire) τηρούμενοι (being kept) εἰς (unto) ἡμέραν (the day) κρίσεως (of judgment) καὶ (and) ἀπωλείας (destruction) τῶν (-) ἀσεβῶν (of ungodly) ἀνθρώπων (men).

¹⁰ Ἥξει (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief), ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) οἱ (the) οὐρανοὶ (heavens) ῥοιζηδὸν (with a roar) παρελεύσονται (will pass away), στοιχεῖα (elements) δὲ (then) καυσούμενα (burning with heat) λυθήσεται (will be dissolved), καὶ (and) γῆ (the earth) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) ἔργα (works) [οὐχ] (not) εὑρεθήσεται (will be found). ¹¹ Τούτων (These things) οὕτως (in this way) πάντων (all) λυομένων (being dissolved), ποταποὺς (what kind) δεῖ (ought) ὑπάρχειν (to be) ὑμᾶς (you)? ἐν (In) ἁγίαις (holy) ἀναστροφαῖς (conduct) καὶ (and) εὐσεβείαις (godliness), ¹² προσδοκῶντας (expecting) καὶ (and) σπεύδοντας (hastening) τὴν (the) παρουσίαν (coming) τῆς (of the) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἡμέρας (day), δι’ (by reason of) ἣν (which) οὐρανοὶ (the heavens) πυρούμενοι (being set on fire) λυθήσονται (will be dissolved), καὶ (and) στοιχεῖα (the elements) καυσούμενα (burning with heat) τήκεται (are melting).

² εὐθέως (Immediately) ἐγενόμην (I was) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), θρόνος (a throne) ἔκειτο (was set) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) θρόνον (throne) καθήμενος (One sitting),

¹⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (-) οὐρανὸς (heaven) ἀπεχωρίσθη (departed) ὡς (like) βιβλίον (a scroll) ἑλισσόμενον (being rolled up), καὶ (and) πᾶν (every) ὄρος (mountain) καὶ (and) νῆσος (island) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) τόπων (places) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκινήθησαν (were moved).

⁸ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἴσχυσεν* (had he strength), οὐδὲ (nor) τόπος (a place) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτῶν (for them) ἔτι (any longer) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven).

²⁰ Καὶ (And) πᾶσα (every) νῆσος (island) ἔφυγεν (fled), καὶ (and) ὄρη (mountains) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθησαν (were to be found).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) ἠνεῳγμένον (having been opened), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἵππος (a horse) λευκός (white), καὶ (and) ὁ (the One) καθήμενος (sitting) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (it), καλούμενος (called) Πιστὸς (Faithful) καὶ (and) Ἀληθινός (True), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) κρίνει (He judges) καὶ (and) πολεμεῖ (makes war).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) οὐρανὸν (a heaven) καινὸν (new), καὶ (and) γῆν (an earth) καινήν (new), ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) πρῶτος (the first) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πρώτη (first) γῆ (earth) ἀπῆλθαν (had passed away), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἔτι (any longer).

²⁷ μέλλει (Is about) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) τότε (then) ἀποδώσει (He will give) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) πρᾶξιν (deeds) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²⁰ πλὴν (Yet) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) μὴ (not) χαίρετε (rejoice), ὅτι (that) τὰ (the) πνεύματα (spirits) ὑμῖν (to you) ὑποτάσσεται (are subjected); χαίρετε (rejoice) δὲ (however) ὅτι (that) τὰ (the) ὀνόματα (names) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐνγέγραπται (are written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).”

²⁸ μὴ (Not) θαυμάζετε (marvel at) τοῦτο (this), ὅτι (for) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μνημείοις (tombs) ἀκούσουσιν (will hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ²⁹ καὶ (and) ἐκπορεύσονται (will come forth) — οἱ (those) τὰ (-) ἀγαθὰ (good) ποιήσαντες (having done), εἰς (to) ἀνάστασιν (the resurrection) ζωῆς (of life); οἱ (-) ‹δὲ› (and) τὰ (those) φαῦλα (evil) πράξαντες (having done), εἰς (to) ἀνάστασιν (the resurrection) κρίσεως (of judgment).

²⁵ Εἶπεν (Said) αὐτῇ (to her) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἡ (the) ἀνάστασις (resurrection) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ζωή (life); ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμὲ (Me), κἂν (even if) ἀποθάνῃ (he should die), ζήσεται (he will live); ²⁶ καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ζῶν (living) καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμὲ (Me), οὐ (never) μὴ (not) ἀποθάνῃ (shall die), εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age). πιστεύεις (Believe you) τοῦτο (this)?”

¹⁵ ἐλπίδα (a hope) ἔχων (having) εἰς (in) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God) ἣν (which) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) οὗτοι (themselves) προσδέχονται (await), ἀνάστασιν (that a resurrection) μέλλειν (there is about) ἔσεσθαι (to be) δικαίων (of the just) τε (both) καὶ (and) ἀδίκων (of the unjust).

⁶ ὃς (who) “Ἀποδώσει (will give) ἑκάστῳ (to each), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτοῦ (of him),”

¹⁰ Σὺ (You) δὲ (however), τί (why) κρίνεις (judge you) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) σου (or you), ἢ (or) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) τί (why) ἐξουθενεῖς (do despise) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) σου (of you)? πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) παραστησόμεθα (we will stand before) τῷ (the) βήματι (judgment seat) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God). ¹¹ γέγραπται (It has been written) γάρ (for): “Ζῶ (Live) ἐγώ (I), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord), ὅτι (that) ἐμοὶ (to Me) κάμψει (will bow) πᾶν (every) γόνυ (knee), καὶ (and) πᾶσα (every) γλῶσσα (tongue) ἐξομολογήσεται (will confess) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).” ¹² Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ἕκαστος (each) ἡμῶν (of us) περὶ (concerning) ἑαυτοῦ (himself), λόγον (account) δώσει (will give) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).

⁵ Ὥστε (So then), μὴ (not) πρὸ (before the) καιροῦ (time) τι (anything) κρίνετε (judge), ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἔλθῃ (shall have come) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord), ὃς (who) καὶ (both) φωτίσει (will bring to light) τὰ (the) κρυπτὰ (hidden things) τοῦ (-) σκότους (of darkness), καὶ (and) φανερώσει (will make manifest) τὰς (the) βουλὰς (motives) τῶν (of the) καρδιῶν (hearts); καὶ (and) τότε (then) ὁ (the) ἔπαινος (praise) γενήσεται (will come) ἑκάστῳ (to each) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

²¹ ἐπειδὴ (Since) γὰρ (for) δι’ (by) ἀνθρώπου (a man came) θάνατος (death), καὶ (also) δι’ (by) ἀνθρώπου (a man) ἀνάστασις (resurrection) νεκρῶν (of the dead). ²² ὥσπερ (For as) γὰρ (indeed) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἀδὰμ (Adam) πάντες (all) ἀποθνήσκουσιν (die), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), πάντες (all) ζωοποιηθήσονται (will be made alive). ²³ Ἕκαστος (Each) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἰδίῳ (own) τάγματι (order): ἀπαρχὴ (the firstfruit) Χριστός (Christ), ἔπειτα (then) οἱ (those) τοῦ (of) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐν (at) τῇ (the) παρουσίᾳ (coming) αὐτοῦ (of Him);

¹⁰ τοὺς (-) γὰρ (For) πάντας (all) ἡμᾶς (of us) φανερωθῆναι (to be revealed) δεῖ (it behooves) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (the) βήματος (judgment seat) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ἵνα (that) κομίσηται (may receive back) ἕκαστος (each) τὰ (the things done) διὰ (in) τοῦ (the) σώματος (body), πρὸς (according to) ἃ (what) ἔπραξεν (he did), εἴτε (whether) ἀγαθὸν (good) εἴτε (or) φαῦλον (evil).

³ ναὶ (Yes), ἐρωτῶ (I ask) καὶ (also) σέ (you), γνήσιε (true) σύζυγε (yokefellow), συλλαμβάνου* (help) αὐταῖς (these women), αἵτινες (who) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) συνήθλησάν (labored together) μοι (with me), μετὰ (with) καὶ (also) Κλήμεντος (Clement) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (rest) συνεργῶν (of the fellow workers) μου (of me), ὧν (whose) τὰ (-) ὀνόματα (names are) ἐν (in) βίβλῳ (the book) ζωῆς (of life).

¹⁵ Τοῦτο (This) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγομεν (we declare) ἐν (in) λόγῳ (the word) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (the) ζῶντες (living) οἱ (-) περιλειπόμενοι (remaining), εἰς (unto) τὴν (the) παρουσίαν (coming) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) φθάσωμεν (shall precede) τοὺς (those) κοιμηθέντας (having fallen asleep), ¹⁶ ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐν (with) κελεύσματι (a loud command), ἐν (with) φωνῇ (the voice) ἀρχαγγέλου (of an archangel), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) σάλπιγγι (the trumpet) Θεοῦ (of God), καταβήσεται (will descend) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀναστήσονται (will rise) πρῶτον (first). ¹⁷ ἔπειτα (Then) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (the) ζῶντες (living) οἱ (-) περιλειπόμενοι (remaining), ἅμα (together) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them), ἁρπαγησόμεθα (will be caught away) ἐν (in) νεφέλαις (the clouds) εἰς (for) ἀπάντησιν (the meeting) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) εἰς (in) ἀέρα (the air); καὶ (and) οὕτως (so) πάντοτε (always) σὺν (with) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) ἐσόμεθα (we will be).

²³ καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) αὐτῆς (of her) ἀποκτενῶ (I will kill) ἐν (with) θανάτῳ (death), καὶ (and) γνώσονται (will know) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) ἐκκλησίαι (churches) ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the One) ἐραυνῶν (searching) νεφροὺς (affections) καὶ (and) καρδίας (hearts); καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) ὑμῖν (of you) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ὑμῶν (of you).

⁵ Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), οὕτως (thus) περιβαλεῖται (will be clothed) ἐν (in) ἱματίοις (garments) λευκοῖς (white). καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐξαλείψω (will I blot out) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) βίβλου (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), καὶ (and) ὁμολογήσω (I will confess) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹⁸ καὶ (And) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) ὠργίσθησαν (were enraged), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) ἡ (the) ὀργή (wrath) σου (of You), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) καιρὸς (time) τῶν (for the) νεκρῶν (dead) κριθῆναι (to be judged), καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὸν (the) μισθὸν (reward) τοῖς (to the) δούλοις (servants) σου (of You), τοῖς (the) προφήταις (prophets), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to those) φοβουμένοις (fearing) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You), τοὺς* (the) μικροὺς* (small) καὶ (and) τοὺς* (the) μεγάλους* (great), καὶ (and) διαφθεῖραι (to destroy) τοὺς (those who) διαφθείροντας (are destroying) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth).”

⁸ καὶ (And) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) αὐτὸν (it) πάντες (all) οἱ (-) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), οὗ (of whom) οὐ (not) γέγραπται (have been written) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (names) αὐτοῦ (of them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) βιβλίῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb) τοῦ (-) ἐσφαγμένου (having been slain), ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the founding) κόσμου (of the world).

⁵ Καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) ἐξῆλθεν (came forth), λέγουσα (saying): “Αἰνεῖτε (Praise) τῷ (the) Θεῷ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), πάντες (all) οἱ (the) δοῦλοι (servants) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ‹καὶ› (and) οἱ (those) φοβούμενοι (fearing) αὐτόν (Him), οἱ (the) μικροὶ (small) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μεγάλοι (great)!”

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνον (a throne) μέγαν (great) λευκὸν (white), καὶ (and) τὸν (the One) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it), οὗ (whose) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) προσώπου (face) ἔφυγεν (fled) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) οὐρανός (heaven), καὶ (and) τόπος (place) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτοῖς (for them).

¹³ καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave up) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἔδωκαν (gave up) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them); καὶ (and) ἐκρίθησαν (they were judged) ἕκαστος (each of them) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτῶν (of them).

²⁷ καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθῃ (shall enter) εἰς (into) αὐτὴν (it) πᾶν (anything) κοινὸν (defiling), καὶ (and) ὁ (those) ποιῶν (practicing) βδέλυγμα (abomination) καὶ (and) ψεῦδος (a lie), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) οἱ (those) γεγραμμένοι (having been written) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) βιβλίῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb).

¹² “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχομαι (I am coming) ταχύ (quickly), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) μισθός (reward) μου (of Me) μετ’ (is with) ἐμοῦ (Me), ἀποδοῦναι (to give) ἑκάστῳ (to each) ὡς (as) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) ἐστὶν (is) αὐτοῦ (his).

⁵⁰ Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now) φημι (I say), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅτι (that) σὰρξ (flesh) καὶ (and) αἷμα (blood), βασιλείαν (the kingdom) Θεοῦ (of God) κληρονομῆσαι (to inherit) οὐ (not) δύναται (is able), οὐδὲ (nor) ἡ (the) φθορὰ (decay), τὴν (the) ἀφθαρσίαν (immortality) κληρονομεῖ (does inherit). ⁵¹ Ἰδοὺ (Behold), μυστήριον (a mystery) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I tell). πάντες (All) οὐ (not) κοιμηθησόμεθα (we will sleep); πάντες (all) δὲ (however) ἀλλαγησόμεθα (we will be changed) — ⁵² ἐν (in) ἀτόμῳ (an instant), ἐν (in) ῥιπῇ (the twinkling) ὀφθαλμοῦ (of an eye), ἐν (at) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) σάλπιγγι (trumpet). σαλπίσει (The trumpet will sound) γάρ (for), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐγερθήσονται (will be raised) ἄφθαρτοι (imperishable), καὶ (and) ἡμεῖς (we) ἀλλαγησόμεθα (will be changed). ⁵³ δεῖ (It behooves) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) φθαρτὸν (perishable) τοῦτο (this), ἐνδύσασθαι (to put on) ἀφθαρσίαν (imperishable); καὶ (and) τὸ (the) θνητὸν (mortal) τοῦτο (this), ἐνδύσασθαι (to put on) ἀθανασίαν (immortality). ⁵⁴ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (now) τὸ (the) φθαρτὸν (perishable) τοῦτο (this) ἐνδύσηται (shall have put on) (τὴν) (the) ἀφθαρσίαν (imperishable), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) θνητὸν (mortal) τοῦτο (this) ἐνδύσηται (shall have put on) ἀθανασίαν (immortality), τότε (then) γενήσεται (will come to pass) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) ὁ (-) γεγραμμένος (having been written): “Κατεπόθη (Has been swallowed up) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) εἰς (in) νῖκος (victory).” ⁵⁵ “Ποῦ (Where) σου (of you), θάνατε (O death), τὸ (the) νῖκος (victory)? ποῦ (Where) σου (of you), θάνατε (O death), τὸ (the) κέντρον (sting)?” ⁵⁶ Τὸ (-) δὲ (And) κέντρον (the sting) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death is) ἡ (-) ἁμαρτία (sin); ἡ (-) δὲ (and) δύναμις (the power) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), ὁ (the) νόμος (law); ⁵⁷ τῷ (to) δὲ (however) Θεῷ (God) χάρις (be thanks), τῷ (the One) διδόντι (giving) ἡμῖν (us) τὸ (the) νῖκος (victory) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ). ⁵⁸ Ὥστε (Therefore), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me) ἀγαπητοί (beloved), ἑδραῖοι (steadfast) γίνεσθε (be), ἀμετακίνητοι (immovable), περισσεύοντες (abounding) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἔργῳ (work) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) πάντοτε (always), εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) κόπος (toil) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) κενὸς (in vain) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord).

⁸ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἵππος (a horse) χλωρός (pale), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) καθήμενος (sitting) ἐπάνω (on) αὐτοῦ (it), ὄνομα (the name) αὐτῷ (of him was) Ὁ (-) Θάνατος (Death), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἠκολούθει (was following) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him); καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐξουσία (authority) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) τέταρτον (fourth) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill) ἐν (with) ῥομφαίᾳ (sword), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) λιμῷ (famine), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) θανάτῳ (plague), καὶ (and) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) θηρίων (beasts) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).

¹² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) νεκρούς (dead), τοὺς (-) μεγάλους (great) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) μικρούς (small), ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) βιβλία (books) ἠνοίχθησαν (were opened). Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (another) βιβλίον (book) ἠνοίχθη (was opened), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (the one) ζωῆς (of life). καὶ (And) ἐκρίθησαν (were judged) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the things) γεγραμμένων (having been written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) βιβλίοις (books), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them).

²⁶ ἔσχατος (The last) ἐχθρὸς (enemy) καταργεῖται (to be abolished is) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death).

⁵³ δεῖ (It behooves) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) φθαρτὸν (perishable) τοῦτο (this), ἐνδύσασθαι (to put on) ἀφθαρσίαν (imperishable); καὶ (and) τὸ (the) θνητὸν (mortal) τοῦτο (this), ἐνδύσασθαι (to put on) ἀθανασίαν (immortality).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) γεγραμμένος (having been written), ἐβλήθη (he was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire).

⁴ καὶ (And) ἐξαλείψει (He will wipe away) πᾶν (every) δάκρυον (tear) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (will be) ἔτι (any longer) οὔτε (nor) πένθος (mourning) οὔτε (nor) κραυγὴ (crying) οὔτε (nor) πόνος (pain); οὐκ (not) ἔσται (they will be) ἔτι (any longer), ὅτι (because) τὰ (the) πρῶτα (former things) ἀπῆλθαν (have passed away).”

⁴² καὶ (and) βαλοῦσιν (they will cast) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κάμινον (furnace) τοῦ (of the) πυρός (fire); ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of) ὀδόντων (teeth).

⁵⁰ καὶ (and) βαλοῦσιν (will cast) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κάμινον (furnace) τοῦ (of the) πυρός (fire). ἐκεῖ (There) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of the) ὀδόντων (teeth).

⁴³ Καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) σκανδαλίζῃ* (should cause to stumble) σε (you) ἡ (the) χείρ (hand) σου (of you), ἀπόκοψον (cut off) αὐτήν (it); καλόν (better) ἐστίν (it is) σε (for you) κυλλὸν (crippled) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life), ἢ (than) τὰς (-) δύο (two) χεῖρας (hands) ἔχοντα (having), ἀπελθεῖν (to go away) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) τὸ (-) ἄσβεστον (unquenchable). ^{44 45} καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ὁ (the) πούς (foot) σου (of you) σκανδαλίζῃ (should cause to stumble) σε (you), ἀπόκοψον (cut off) αὐτόν (it); καλόν (better) ἐστίν (it is) σε (for you) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life) χωλὸν (lame), ἢ (than) τοὺς (the) δύο (two) πόδας (feet) ἔχοντα (having), βληθῆναι (to be cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell). ^{46 47} καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) σκανδαλίζῃ (should cause to stumble) σε (you), ἔκβαλε (cast out) αὐτόν (it); καλόν (better) σέ (for you) ἐστιν (it is) μονόφθαλμον (with one eye) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἢ (than) δύο (two) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἔχοντα (having) βληθῆναι (to be cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell), ⁴⁸ ὅπου (where) ‘Ὁ (the) σκώληξ (worm) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (not) τελευτᾷ (dies), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) οὐ (not) σβέννυται (is quenched).’

¹⁶ ὁ (The one) πιστεύσας (having believed) καὶ (and) βαπτισθεὶς (having been baptized) σωθήσεται (will be saved); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ἀπιστήσας (having disbelieved) κατακριθήσεται (will be condemned).

¹⁸ ὁ (The one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (on) αὐτὸν (Him) οὐ (not) κρίνεται (is judged); ὁ (the one) ‹δὲ› (but) μὴ (not) πιστεύων (believing) ἤδη (already) κέκριται (has been judged), ὅτι (because) μὴ (not) πεπίστευκεν (he has believed) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) μονογενοῦς (only begotten) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ¹⁹ Αὕτη (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) κρίσις (judgement), ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light) ἐλήλυθεν (has come) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), καὶ (and) ἠγάπησαν (loved) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) μᾶλλον (rather) τὸ (the) σκότος (darkness) ἢ (than) τὸ (the) φῶς (Light); ἦν (were) γὰρ (for) αὐτῶν (of them) πονηρὰ (evil) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds).

³⁶ ὁ (The one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ἀπειθῶν (not obeying) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son), οὐκ (not) ὄψεται (will see) ζωήν (life), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μένει (abides) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (him).”

⁶ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἡ (the) ὁδὸς (way), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀλήθεια (truth), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ζωή (life). οὐδεὶς (No one) ἔρχεται (comes) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) δι’ (by) ἐμοῦ (Me).

¹² Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) ἄλλῳ (other) οὐδενὶ (no one) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), οὐδὲ (not) γὰρ (for) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is there) ἕτερον (another) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) τὸ (-) δεδομένον (having been given) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐν (by) ᾧ (which) δεῖ (it behooves) σωθῆναι (to be saved) ἡμᾶς (us).”

³ πῶς (how) ἡμεῖς (we) ἐκφευξόμεθα (will escape) τηλικαύτης (such a great) ἀμελήσαντες (having neglected) σωτηρίας (a salvation), ἥτις (which) ἀρχὴν (a commencement) λαβοῦσα (having received), λαλεῖσθαι (declared) διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord), ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (those) ἀκουσάντων (having heard), εἰς (to) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐβεβαιώθη (it was confirmed),

²⁵ Βλέπετε (Take heed) μὴ (lest) παραιτήσησθε (you refuse) τὸν (the One) λαλοῦντα (speaking). εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἐκεῖνοι (they) οὐκ (not) ἐξέφυγον (escaped), ἐπὶ (on) γῆς (earth) παραιτησάμενοι (having refused) τὸν (the One) χρηματίζοντα (divinely instructing them), πολὺ (much) μᾶλλον (less) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (-) τὸν (the One) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανῶν (the heavens) ἀποστρεφόμενοι (turning away from),

¹¹ Καὶ (And) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) μαρτυρία (testimony), ὅτι (that) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) ἔδωκεν (has given) «ὁ (-) Θεὸς» (God) ἡμῖν (to us), καὶ (and) αὕτη (this) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (His) ἐστιν (is). ¹² ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) ἔχει (has) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life); ὁ (the one) μὴ (not) ἔχων (having) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has).
