¹⁷ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen) αὐτῶν (to them), εἰπὸν (tell it) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church). ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) τῆς (to the) ἐκκλησίας (church) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen), ἔστω (let him be) σοι (to you) ὥσπερ (as) ὁ (the) ἐθνικὸς (pagan) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) τελώνης (tax collector).

⁴² ἤγαγεν (He led) αὐτὸν (him) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus). ἐμβλέψας (Having looked at) αὐτῷ (him), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) Σίμων (Simon) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) Ἰωάννου (of John); σὺ (You) κληθήσῃ (will be called) Κηφᾶς (Cephas)”— ὃ (which) ἑρμηνεύεται (means) Πέτρος (Peter).

²⁷ τὰ (The) πρόβατα (sheep) τὰ (-) ἐμὰ (of Me), τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) μου (of Me) ἀκούουσιν (hear), κἀγὼ (and I) γινώσκω (know) αὐτά (them), καὶ (and) ἀκολουθοῦσίν (they follow) μοι (Me); ²⁸ κἀγὼ (and I) δίδωμι (give) αὐτοῖς (them) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal); καὶ (and) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) ἀπόλωνται (shall they perish), εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), καὶ (and) οὐχ (never) ἁρπάσει (will seize) τις (anyone) αὐτὰ (them) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) χειρός (hand) μου (of Me). ²⁹ ὁ (The) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) ὃ (who) δέδωκέν (has given them) μοι (to Me), πάντων (than all) μεῖζόν (greater) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) δύναται (is able) ἁρπάζειν (to seize them) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) χειρὸς (hand) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father). ³⁰ ἐγὼ (I) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἕν (one) ἐσμεν (are).”

⁴⁷ αἰνοῦντες (praising) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) καὶ (and) ἔχοντες (having) χάριν (favor) πρὸς (with) ὅλον (all) τὸν (the) λαόν (people). ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Κύριος (the Lord) προσετίθει (kept adding) τοὺς (those who) σῳζομένους (were being saved) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (their) αὐτό (number).

¹ Σαῦλος (Saul) δὲ (now) ἦν (was there) συνευδοκῶν (consenting) τῇ (to the) ἀναιρέσει (killing) αὐτοῦ (of him). Ἐγένετο (Arose) δὲ (then) ἐν (on) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day) διωγμὸς (a persecution) μέγας (great) ἐπὶ (against) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church) τὴν (which was) ἐν (in) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem). πάντες (All) δὲ (then) διεσπάρησαν (were scattered) κατὰ (throughout) τὰς (the) χώρας (regions) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (of Judea) καὶ (and) Σαμαρείας (Samaria), πλὴν (except) τῶν (the) ἀποστόλων (apostles).

³³ τίς (Who) ἐγκαλέσει (will bring an accusation) κατὰ (against) ἐκλεκτῶν (the elect) Θεοῦ (of God)? Θεὸς (God is) ὁ (the One) δικαιῶν (justifying). ³⁴ τίς (Who is) ὁ (the one) κατακρινῶν (condemning)? Χριστὸς (For it is Christ) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὁ (the one) ἀποθανών (having died), μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (now) ἐγερθείς (having been raised up), ὅς (who) ‹καί› (also) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (at the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὃς (who) καὶ (and) ἐντυγχάνει (is interceding) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us). ³⁵ Τίς (Who) ἡμᾶς (us) χωρίσει (will separate) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ)? θλῖψις (Tribulation), ἢ (or) στενοχωρία (distress), ἢ (or) διωγμὸς (persecution), ἢ (or) λιμὸς (famine), ἢ (or) γυμνότης (nakedness), ἢ (or) κίνδυνος (danger), ἢ (or) μάχαιρα (sword)? ³⁶ καθὼς (As) γέγραπται (it has been written) ὅτι (-): “Ἕνεκεν (For the sake) σοῦ (of you), θανατούμεθα (we face death) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) ἡμέραν (day); ἐλογίσθημεν (we were regarded) ὡς (as) πρόβατα (sheep) σφαγῆς (of slaughter).” ³⁷ Ἀλλ’ (But) ἐν (in) τούτοις (these things) πᾶσιν (all), ὑπερνικῶμεν (we more than conquer) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the One) ἀγαπήσαντος (having loved) ἡμᾶς (us). ³⁸ πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) οὔτε (neither) θάνατος (death), οὔτε (nor) ζωὴ (life), οὔτε (nor) ἄγγελοι (angels), οὔτε (nor) ἀρχαὶ (principalities), οὔτε (nor) ἐνεστῶτα (things present), οὔτε (nor) μέλλοντα (things to come), οὔτε (nor) δυνάμεις (powers), ³⁹ οὔτε (nor) ὕψωμα (height), οὔτε (nor) βάθος (depth), οὔτε (nor) τις (any) κτίσις (created thing) ἑτέρα (other), δυνήσεται (will be able) ἡμᾶς (us) χωρίσαι (to separate) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τῆς (-) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us).

⁹ Θεοῦ (Of God) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are) συνεργοί (fellow workers); Θεοῦ (God’s) γεώργιον (field), Θεοῦ (God’s) οἰκοδομή (building) ἐστε (you are). ¹⁰ Κατὰ (According to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσάν (having been given) μοι (to me), ὡς (as) σοφὸς (a wise) ἀρχιτέκτων (master builder) θεμέλιον (the foundation) ἔθηκα (I have laid); ἄλλος (another) δὲ (however) ἐποικοδομεῖ (is building upon it). ἕκαστος (Each one) δὲ (however) βλεπέτω (let take heed) πῶς (how) ἐποικοδομεῖ (he builds upon it). ¹¹ θεμέλιον (Foundation) γὰρ (for) ἄλλον (another), οὐδεὶς (no one) δύναται (is able) θεῖναι (to lay), παρὰ (besides) τὸν (the one) κείμενον (being already laid), ὅς (which) ἐστιν (is) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστός (Christ).

⁹ καὶ (and) γνόντες (having known) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τὴν (-) δοθεῖσάν (having been given) μοι (to me), Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Κηφᾶς (Cephas) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John), οἱ (those) δοκοῦντες (esteemed) στῦλοι (pillars) εἶναι (to be), δεξιὰς (the right hands) ἔδωκαν (gave) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) Βαρνάβα (Barnabas), κοινωνίας (of fellowship), ἵνα (that) ἡμεῖς (we should go) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles); αὐτοὶ (they) δὲ (however) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) περιτομήν (circumcision).

¹⁹ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then) οὐκέτι (no longer) ἐστὲ (are you) ξένοι (strangers) καὶ (and) πάροικοι (aliens), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐστὲ (are) συμπολῖται (fellow citizens) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) οἰκεῖοι (of the household) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ²⁰ ἐποικοδομηθέντες (having been built) ἐπὶ (upon) τῷ (the) θεμελίῳ (foundation) τῶν (of the) ἀποστόλων (apostles) καὶ (and) προφητῶν (prophets), ὄντος (being) ἀκρογωνιαίου (the cornerstone) αὐτοῦ (Himself) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ²¹ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) πᾶσα (the whole) οἰκοδομὴ (building), συναρμολογουμένη (being fitted together), αὔξει (is increasing) εἰς (into) ναὸν (a temple), ἅγιον (holy) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord), ²² ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) συνοικοδομεῖσθε (are being built together) εἰς (for) κατοικητήριον (a habitation) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit).

¹⁰ ἵνα (so that) γνωρισθῇ (should be made known) νῦν (now) ταῖς (to the) ἀρχαῖς (rulers) καὶ (and) ταῖς (the) ἐξουσίαις (authorities) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms), διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐκκλησίας (church), ἡ (the) πολυποίκιλος (manifold) σοφία (wisdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God),

²⁵ Οἱ (-) ἄνδρες (Husbands), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τὰς (the) γυναῖκας (wives), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἠγάπησεν (loved) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church) καὶ (and) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) παρέδωκεν (gave up) ὑπὲρ (for) αὐτῆς (her), ²⁶ ἵνα (so that) αὐτὴν (her) ἁγιάσῃ (He might sanctify), καθαρίσας (having cleansed her) τῷ (by the) λουτρῷ (washing) τοῦ (-) ὕδατος (of water) ἐν (by) ῥήματι (the word), ²⁷ ἵνα (so that) παραστήσῃ (might present) αὐτὸς (He) ἑαυτῷ (to Himself) ἔνδοξον (in glory) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church), μὴ (not) ἔχουσαν (having) σπίλον (spot) ἢ (or) ῥυτίδα (wrinkle) ἤ (or) τι (any) τῶν (of the) τοιούτων (such things), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) ᾖ (it would be) ἁγία (holy) καὶ (and) ἄμωμος (blameless).

³² τὸ (The) μυστήριον (mystery) τοῦτο (this) μέγα (great) ἐστίν (is); ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (speak) εἰς (as to) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) εἰς (as to) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church).

¹⁸ καὶ (And) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) κεφαλὴ (head) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body), τῆς (the) ἐκκλησίας (church), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) (ἡ) (the) ἀρχή (beginning), πρωτότοκος (firstborn) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) νεκρῶν (dead), ἵνα (so that) γένηται (might be) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things) αὐτὸς (He) πρωτεύων (holding preeminence),

⁵ εἰ (if) δέ (but) τις (one) τοῦ (the) ἰδίου (own) οἴκου (household) προστῆναι (to manage) οὐκ (not) οἶδεν (knows), πῶς (how) ἐκκλησίας (the church) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπιμελήσεται (how will he care for)? —

¹⁵ ἐὰν (if) δὲ (however) βραδύνω (I should delay), ἵνα (so that) εἰδῇς (you may know) πῶς (how) δεῖ (it behooves one) ἐν (in) οἴκῳ (the household) Θεοῦ (of God) ἀναστρέφεσθαι (to conduct oneself), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) ἐκκλησία (the church) Θεοῦ (of God) ζῶντος (the living), στῦλος (the pillar) καὶ (and) ἑδραίωμα (base) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth).

³ Πλείονος (Of greater) γὰρ (for) οὗτος (He) δόξης (glory) παρὰ (than) Μωϋσῆν (Moses) ἠξίωται (has been counted worthy), καθ’ (by) ὅσον (so much as) πλείονα (greater) τιμὴν (honor) ἔχει (has) τοῦ (than the) οἴκου (house itself), ὁ (the one) κατασκευάσας (having built) αὐτόν (it). ⁴ πᾶς (Every) γὰρ (for) οἶκος (house) κατασκευάζεται (is built) ὑπό (by) τινος (someone); ὁ (the One) δὲ (however) πάντα (everything) κατασκευάσας (having built is) Θεός (God).

²⁸ Διὸ (Therefore) βασιλείαν (a kingdom) ἀσάλευτον (not to be shaken) παραλαμβάνοντες (receiving), ἔχωμεν (we may have) χάριν (grace), δι’ (by) ἧς (which) λατρεύωμεν (we may serve) εὐαρέστως (well pleasingly) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God), μετὰ (with) εὐλαβείας (reverence) καὶ (and) δέους (awe).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) φωναὶ (voices) μεγάλαι (great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἐγένετο (Has become) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), τοῦ (that of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσει (He will reign) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).”

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) οὐρανὸν (a heaven) καινὸν (new), καὶ (and) γῆν (an earth) καινήν (new), ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) πρῶτος (the first) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πρώτη (first) γῆ (earth) ἀπῆλθαν (had passed away), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἔτι (any longer). ² καὶ (And) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἁγίαν (holy), Ἰερουσαλὴμ (the Jerusalem) καινὴν (new), εἶδον (I saw) καταβαίνουσαν (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἡτοιμασμένην (having been prepared) ὡς (as) νύμφην (a bride) κεκοσμημένην (having been adorned) τῷ (for the) ἀνδρὶ (husband) αὐτῆς (of her). ³ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνῆς (a voice) μεγάλης (great) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), λεγούσης (saying): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) σκηνὴ (tabernacle) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μετὰ (is with) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), καὶ (and) σκηνώσει (He will tabernacle) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) λαοὶ (peoples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔσονται (will be), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἔσται (will be) [αὐτῶν (as their) θεός] (God). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐξαλείψει (He will wipe away) πᾶν (every) δάκρυον (tear) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (will be) ἔτι (any longer) οὔτε (nor) πένθος (mourning) οὔτε (nor) κραυγὴ (crying) οὔτε (nor) πόνος (pain); οὐκ (not) ἔσται (they will be) ἔτι (any longer), ὅτι (because) τὰ (the) πρῶτα (former things) ἀπῆλθαν (have passed away).”

¹⁴ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) τεῖχος (wall) τῆς (of the) πόλεως (city) ἔχων (had) θεμελίους (foundations) δώδεκα (twelve), καὶ (and) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῶν (them) δώδεκα (the twelve) ὀνόματα (names) τῶν (of the) δώδεκα (twelve) ἀποστόλων (apostles) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb).
