³ Καὶ (And) ἐλάλησεν (He spoke) αὐτοῖς (to them) πολλὰ (many things) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables), λέγων (saying), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) τοῦ (-) σπείρειν (to sow).

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) προσελθόντες (having come to Him), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖς (speak You) αὐτοῖς (to them)?” ¹¹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), εἶπεν (He said) ‹αὐτοῖς› (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ὑμῖν (to you) δέδοται (it has been granted) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); ἐκείνοις (to them) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) δέδοται (it has been granted). ¹² ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἔχει (has), δοθήσεται (will be given) αὐτῷ (to him), καὶ (and) περισσευθήσεται (he will be in abundance); ὅστις (whoever) δὲ (now) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καὶ (even) ὃ (what) ἔχει (he has) ἀρθήσεται (will be taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him). ¹³ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) αὐτοῖς (to them) λαλῶ (I speak): ‘Ὅτι (Because) βλέποντες (seeing), οὐ (not) βλέπουσιν (do they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (do they hear), οὐδὲ (nor) συνίουσιν (do they understand).’

³⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) πάντα (all) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τοῖς (to the) ὄχλοις (crowds), καὶ (and) χωρὶς (without) παραβολῆς (a parable) οὐδὲν (not) ἐλάλει (He was speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them), ³⁵ ὅπως (so that) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled) τὸ (that) ῥηθὲν (having been spoken) διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), λέγοντος (saying), “Ἀνοίξω (I will open) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) μου (of Me); ἐρεύξομαι (I will utter) κεκρυμμένα (things hidden) ἀπὸ (from the) καταβολῆς (foundation) [κόσμου] (of the world).”

⁵³ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass), ὅτε (when) ἐτέλεσεν (had finished) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) ταύτας (these), μετῆρεν (He withdrew) ἐκεῖθεν (from there).

¹ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) πάλιν (again) εἶπεν (spoke) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) αὐτοῖς (to them), λέγων (saying),

³² Ἀπὸ (Of) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) συκῆς (fig tree) μάθετε (learn) τὴν (the) παραβολήν (parable): ὅταν (When) ἤδη (already) ὁ (the) κλάδος (branch) αὐτῆς (of it) γένηται (may have become) ἁπαλὸς (tender) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) φύλλα (leaves) ἐκφύῃ (it puts forth), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγὺς (near is) τὸ (the) θέρος (summer).

²³ Καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having called to Him) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) ἔλεγεν (He began speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them): “Πῶς (How) δύναται (is able) Σατανᾶς (Satan), Σατανᾶν (Satan) ἐκβάλλειν (to cast out)?

² Καὶ (And) ἐδίδασκεν (He began teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλά (many things), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ³ “Ἀκούετε (Listen)! ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) σπεῖραι (to sow). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (as) τῷ (-) σπείρειν (he sowed), ὃ (some) μὲν (-) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) ἦλθεν (came) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτό (it). ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) πετρῶδες (rocky place), ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) εἶχεν (it had) γῆν (soil) πολλήν (much), καὶ (and) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἐξανέτειλεν (it sprang up), διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) βάθος (depth) γῆς (of soil). ⁶ καὶ (And) ὅτε (after) ἀνέτειλεν (rose) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), ἐκαυματίσθη (it was scorched), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἔχειν (having) ῥίζαν (root), ἐξηράνθη (it withered away). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (among) τὰς (the) ἀκάνθας (thorns), καὶ (and) ἀνέβησαν (grew up) αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns), καὶ (and) συνέπνιξαν (choked) αὐτό (it), καὶ (and) καρπὸν (fruit) οὐκ (no) ἔδωκεν (it yielded). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἄλλα (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) καλήν (good), καὶ (and) ἐδίδου (began yielding) καρπὸν (fruit), ἀναβαίνοντα (growing up) καὶ (and) αὐξανόμενα (increasing), καὶ (and) ἔφερεν (bearing) ἓν* (one) τριάκοντα (thirtyfold), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑξήκοντα (sixty), καὶ (and) ἓν (one) ἑκατόν (a hundred).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying), “Ὃς (He who) ἔχει (has) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).”

¹³ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (understand you) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this)? καὶ (And) πῶς (how) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) παραβολὰς (parables) γνώσεσθε (will you understand)?

³³ Καὶ (And) τοιαύταις (with such) παραβολαῖς (parables) πολλαῖς (many), ἐλάλει (He kept speaking) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸν (the) λόγον (word), καθὼς (as) ἠδύναντο (they were able) ἀκούειν (to hear).

¹ Καὶ (And) ἤρξατο (He began) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) λαλεῖν (to speak): “Ἀμπελῶνα (A vineyard) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐφύτευσεν (planted), καὶ (and) περιέθηκεν (he placed around it) φραγμὸν (a fence), καὶ (and) ὤρυξεν (dug) ὑπολήνιον (a wine vat), καὶ (and) ᾠκοδόμησεν (built) πύργον (a tower), καὶ (and) ἐξέδετο (rented out) αὐτὸν (it) γεωργοῖς (to farmers), καὶ (and) ἀπεδήμησεν (traveled abroad).

¹² Καὶ (And) ἐζήτουν (they were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) κρατῆσαι (to lay hold of), καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd); ἔγνωσαν (they knew) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) πρὸς (against) αὐτοὺς (them) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) εἶπεν (He had spoken). καὶ (And) ἀφέντες (having left) αὐτὸν (Him), ἀπῆλθον (they went away).

⁵ “Ἐξῆλθεν (Went out) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) τοῦ (-) σπεῖραι (to sow) τὸν (the) σπόρον (seed) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σπείρειν (sowing) αὐτὸν (of him), ὃ (some) μὲν (indeed) ἔπεσεν (fell) παρὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), καὶ (and) κατεπατήθη (it was trampled upon), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτό (it). ⁶ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) κατέπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock), καὶ (and) φυὲν (having sprung up) ἐξηράνθη (it withered) διὰ (through) τὸ (-) μὴ (no) ἔχειν (having) ἰκμάδα (moisture). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) ἀκανθῶν (thorns), καὶ (and) συμφυεῖσαι (having sprung up with it), αἱ (the) ἄκανθαι (thorns) ἀπέπνιξαν (choked) αὐτό (it). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ἕτερον (other) ἔπεσεν (fell) εἰς (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (soil) τὴν (-) ἀγαθήν (good), καὶ (and) φυὲν (having sprung up), ἐποίησεν (it produced) καρπὸν (fruit) ἑκατονταπλασίονα (a hundredfold).” Ταῦτα (These things) λέγων (saying), ἐφώνει (He was calling out), “Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) ὦτα (ears) ἀκούειν (to hear), ἀκουέτω (let him hear).”

¹⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Ὑμῖν (To you) δέδοται (it has been given) γνῶναι (to know) τὰ (the) μυστήρια (mysteries) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); τοῖς (to) δὲ (however) λοιποῖς (the rest), ἐν (it is in) παραβολαῖς (parables), ἵνα (so that), ‘Βλέποντες (Seeing), μὴ (not) βλέπωσιν (may they see); Καὶ (and) ἀκούοντες (hearing), μὴ (not) συνιῶσιν (may they understand).’

⁴¹ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter), “Κύριε (Lord), πρὸς (to) ἡμᾶς (us) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this) λέγεις (speak You), ἢ (or) καὶ (also) πρὸς (to) πάντας (all)?”

³ Εἶπεν (He spoke) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this), λέγων (saying), ⁴ “Τίς (What) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), ἔχων (having) ἑκατὸν (a hundred) πρόβατα (sheep), καὶ (and) ἀπολέσας (having lost) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἓν (one), οὐ (not) καταλείπει (leaves) τὰ (the) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (open field), καὶ (and) πορεύεται (goes) ἐπὶ (after) τὸ (the one) ἀπολωλὸς (having been lost), ἕως (until) εὕρῃ (he finds) αὐτό (it)? ⁵ καὶ (And) εὑρὼν (having found it), ἐπιτίθησιν (he lays it) ἐπὶ (on) τοὺς (the) ὤμους (shoulders) αὐτοῦ (of him), χαίρων (rejoicing). ⁶ καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house), συνκαλεῖ (he calls together) τοὺς (the) φίλους (friends) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) γείτονας (neighbors), λέγων (saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Συνχάρητέ (Rejoice with) μοι (me), ὅτι (for) εὗρον (I have found) τὸ (the) πρόβατόν (sheep) μου (of me), τὸ (the one) ἀπολωλός (having been lost)!’ ⁷ λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (in the same way) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven) ἔσται (there will be) ἐπὶ (over) ἑνὶ (one) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner) μετανοοῦντι (repenting), ἢ (rather than) ἐπὶ (over) ἐνενήκοντα (ninety) ἐννέα (nine) δικαίοις (righteous ones), οἵτινες (who) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχουσιν (have) μετανοίας (of repentance).

²⁵ Ταῦτα (These things) ἐν (in) παροιμίαις (allegories) λελάληκα (I have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you); ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) ὅτε (when) οὐκέτι (no more) ἐν (in) παροιμίαις (allegories) λαλήσω (I will speak) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀλλὰ (but) παρρησίᾳ (plainly) περὶ (concerning) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) ἀπαγγελῶ (I will report) ὑμῖν (to you).
