¹ Καὶ (And) ἦλθον (they came) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) πέραν (other side) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea), εἰς (to) τὴν (the) χώραν (region) τῶν (of the) Γερασηνῶν (Gerasenes).

²⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντος (having come) αὐτοῦ (He) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) πέραν (other side), εἰς (to) τὴν (the) χώραν (region) τῶν (of the) Γαδαρηνῶν (Gadarenes), ὑπήντησαν (met) αὐτῷ (Him) δύο (two) δαιμονιζόμενοι (being possessed by demons), ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) μνημείων (tombs) ἐξερχόμενοι (coming forth), χαλεποὶ (violent) λίαν (extremely), ὥστε (so that) μὴ (not) ἰσχύειν (was able) τινὰ (anyone) παρελθεῖν (to pass) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) ὁδοῦ (way) ἐκείνης (that). ²⁹ Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἔκραξαν (they cried out), λέγοντες (saying), “Τί (What) ἡμῖν (to us) καὶ (and) σοί (to you), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)? ἦλθες (Are You come) ὧδε (here) πρὸ (before the) καιροῦ (time) βασανίσαι (to torment) ἡμᾶς (us)?” ³⁰ Ἦν (There was) δὲ (now) μακρὰν (far off) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ἀγέλη (a herd) χοίρων (of pigs) πολλῶν (many), βοσκομένη (feeding). ³¹ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) δαίμονες (the demons) παρεκάλουν (were begging) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Εἰ (If) ἐκβάλλεις (You cast out) ἡμᾶς (us), ἀπόστειλον (send away) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἀγέλην (herd) τῶν (-) χοίρων (of pigs).” ³² Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑπάγετε (Go).” οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἐξελθόντες (having gone out) ἀπῆλθον (they went away) εἰς (into) τοὺς (the) χοίρους (pigs); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), ὥρμησεν (rushed) πᾶσα (all) ἡ (the) ἀγέλη (herd) κατὰ (down) τοῦ (the) κρημνοῦ (steep bank) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), καὶ (and) ἀπέθανον (perished) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ὕδασιν (waters). ³³ Οἱ (Those) δὲ (now) βόσκοντες (feeding them) ἔφυγον (fled), καὶ (and) ἀπελθόντες (having gone away) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), ἀπήγγειλαν (they related) πάντα (everything), καὶ (including) τὰ (the matter) τῶν (of those) δαιμονιζομένων (being possessed by demons). ³⁴ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), πᾶσα (all) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) εἰς (to) ὑπάντησιν (meet) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). καὶ (And) ἰδόντες (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him), παρεκάλεσαν (they begged Him) ὅπως (that) μεταβῇ (He would depart) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ὁρίων (region) αὐτῶν (of them).

³⁵ Καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (on) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ὀψίας (evening) γενομένης (having come), “Διέλθωμεν (Let us pass over) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) πέραν (other side).”

²⁶ Καὶ (And) κατέπλευσαν (they sailed down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) χώραν (region) τῶν (of the) Γερασηνῶν (Gerasenes), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) ἀντιπέρα (opposite) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee). ²⁷ ἐξελθόντι (Having gone forth) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (He) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), ὑπήντησεν (met Him) ἀνήρ (a man) τις (certain) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city), ἔχων (having) δαιμόνια (demons), καὶ (and) χρόνῳ (time) ἱκανῷ (a long) οὐκ (not) ἐνεδύσατο (was wearing) ἱμάτιον (clothing), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) οἰκίᾳ (a house) οὐκ (not) ἔμενεν (did abide), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μνήμασιν (tombs). ²⁸ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (then) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἀνακράξας (having cried out), προσέπεσεν (he fell down before) αὐτῷ (Him), καὶ (and) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud) εἶπεν (said), “Τί (What) ἐμοὶ (to me) καὶ (and) σοί (to You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Υἱὲ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (the) Ὑψίστου (Most High)? δέομαί (I implore) σου (of You) μή (not) με (me) βασανίσῃς (You might torment)!” ²⁹ παρήγγελλεν (He was commanding) γὰρ (for) τῷ (the) πνεύματι (spirit) τῷ (-) ἀκαθάρτῳ (unclean) ἐξελθεῖν (to come out) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ἀνθρώπου (man). πολλοῖς (Many) γὰρ (for) χρόνοις (times) συνηρπάκει (it had seized) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) ἐδεσμεύετο (he was bound), ἁλύσεσιν (with chains) καὶ (and) πέδαις (shackles) φυλασσόμενος (being kept); καὶ (and) διαρρήσσων (breaking) τὰ (the) δεσμὰ (chains), ἠλαύνετο (he was driven) ὑπὸ* (by) τοῦ (the) δαιμονίου (demon) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) ἐρήμους (deserts). ³⁰ Ἐπηρώτησεν (Asked) δὲ (now) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Τί (What) σοι (your) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is)?” ὁ (-) Δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), “Λεγιών (Legion),” ὅτι (because) εἰσῆλθεν (were entered) δαιμόνια (demons) πολλὰ (many) εἰς (into) αὐτόν (him). ³¹ καὶ (And) παρεκάλουν (they were begging) αὐτὸν (Him), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπιτάξῃ (he would command) αὐτοῖς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (abyss) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away). ³² Ἦν (There was) δὲ (now) ἐκεῖ (there) ἀγέλη (a herd) χοίρων (of pigs) ἱκανῶν (many) βοσκομένη (feeding), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὄρει (mountain), καὶ (and) παρεκάλεσαν (they begged) αὐτὸν (Him) ἵνα (that) ἐπιτρέψῃ (He would allow) αὐτοῖς (them) εἰς (into) ἐκείνους (them) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter); καὶ (and) ἐπέτρεψεν (He allowed) αὐτοῖς (them). ³³ Ἐξελθόντα (Having gone out) δὲ (then) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ἀνθρώπου (man), εἰσῆλθον (they entered) εἰς (into) τοὺς (the) χοίρους (pigs), καὶ (and) ὥρμησεν (rushed) ἡ (the) ἀγέλη (herd) κατὰ (down) τοῦ (the) κρημνοῦ (steep bank) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) καὶ (and) ἀπεπνίγη (was drowned). ³⁴ Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (then) οἱ (those) βόσκοντες (feeding them) τὸ (that) γεγονὸς (having taken place), ἔφυγον (they fled) καὶ (and) ἀπήγγειλαν (reported it) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) ἀγρούς (country). ³⁵ ἐξῆλθον (They went out) δὲ (then) ἰδεῖν (to see) τὸ (that) γεγονὸς (having taken place), καὶ (and) ἦλθον (they came) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found) καθήμενον (sitting) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἀφ’ (from) οὗ (whom) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons) ἐξῆλθεν (had gone out), ἱματισμένον (clothed) καὶ (and) σωφρονοῦντα (being of sound mind), παρὰ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). καὶ (And) ἐφοβήθησαν (they were afraid). ³⁶ ἀπήγγειλαν (Related) δὲ (then) αὐτοῖς (to them) οἱ (those) ἰδόντες (having seen it), πῶς (how) ἐσώθη (was healed) ὁ (the one) δαιμονισθείς (having been possessed by demons). ³⁷ Καὶ (And) ἠρώτησεν (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) ἅπαν (all) τὸ (the) πλῆθος (multitude) τῆς (of the) περιχώρου (surrounding region) τῶν (of the) Γερασηνῶν (Gerasenes) ἀπελθεῖν (to depart) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them), ὅτι (because) φόβῳ (with fear) μεγάλῳ (great) συνείχοντο (they were seized). αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (now), ἐμβὰς (having entered) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (the boat), ὑπέστρεψεν (turned back). ³⁸ Ἐδεῖτο (Was begging) δὲ (however) αὐτοῦ (Him) ὁ (the) ἀνὴρ (man) ἀφ’ (from) οὗ (whom) ἐξεληλύθει (had gone) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons) εἶναι (to be taken) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him). ἀπέλυσεν (He sent away) δὲ (however) αὐτὸν (him) λέγων (saying), ³⁹ “Ὑπόστρεφε (Return) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) σου (of you), καὶ (and) διηγοῦ (relate) ὅσα (all that) σοι (for you) ἐποίησεν (has done) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).” καὶ (And) ἀπῆλθεν (he departed), καθ’ (through) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) κηρύσσων (proclaiming) ὅσα (all that) ἐποίησεν (had done) αὐτῷ (for him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus).
