⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐπορεύετο (was going) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them). ἤδη (Already) δὲ (then), αὐτοῦ (He) οὐ (not) μακρὰν (far) ἀπέχοντος (being distant) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) οἰκίας (house), ἔπεμψεν (sent) φίλους (friends) ὁ (the) ἑκατοντάρχης (centurion), λέγων (saying) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Κύριε (Lord), μὴ (not) σκύλλου (trouble Yourself), οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) ἱκανός (worthy) εἰμι (I am) ἵνα (that) ὑπὸ (under) τὴν (the) στέγην (roof) μου (of me) εἰσέλθῃς (You should come);

¹¹ Ἐγὼ (I) μὲν (indeed) ὑμᾶς (you) βαπτίζω (baptize) ἐν (with) ὕδατι (water) εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) ὀπίσω (after) μου (me) ἐρχόμενος (is coming) ἰσχυρότερός (mightier) μού (than I), ἐστιν (He) οὗ (of whom) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) ἱκανὸς (fit) τὰ (the) ὑποδήματα (sandals) βαστάσαι (to carry). αὐτὸς (He) ὑμᾶς (you) βαπτίσει (will baptize) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) καὶ (and) πυρί (with fire),

²⁶ ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) σοι (to you), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐξέλθῃς (shall you come out) ἐκεῖθεν (from there), ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἀποδῷς (you should pay) τὸν (the) ἔσχατον (last) κοδράντην (kodranten)! ²⁷ Ἠκούσατε (You have heard) ὅτι (that) ἐρρέθη (it was said), ‘Οὐ (Not) μοιχεύσεις (shall you commit adultery).’

²⁸ ὥσπερ (even as) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) οὐκ (not) ἦλθεν (came) διακονηθῆναι (to be served), ἀλλὰ (but) διακονῆσαι (to serve), καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λύτρον (as a ransom) ἀντὶ (for) πολλῶν (many).”

²⁴ Καὶ (And) ἀπῆλθεν (He departed) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him). καὶ (And) ἠκολούθει (was following) αὐτῷ (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πολύς (great), καὶ (and) συνέθλιβον (pressing in on) αὐτόν (Him).

⁸ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) προσέπεσεν (fell at) τοῖς (the) γόνασιν (knees) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Ἔξελθε (Depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me), ὅτι (for) ἀνὴρ (a man) ἁμαρτωλός (sinful) εἰμι (am I), Κύριε (Lord).”

⁴ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) παραγενόμενοι (having come) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), παρεκάλουν (they were begging) αὐτὸν (Him) σπουδαίως (earnestly), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (that), “Ἄξιός (Worthy) ἐστιν (he is), ᾧ (to whom) παρέξῃ (You will grant) τοῦτο (this);

⁴⁹ Ἔτι (Still) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λαλοῦντος (speaking), ἔρχεταί (comes) τις (one) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) ἀρχισυναγώγου (synagogue ruler), λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Τέθνηκεν (Has died) ἡ (the) θυγάτηρ (daughter) σου (of You); μηκέτι (no longer) σκύλλε (trouble) τὸν (the) Διδάσκαλον (Teacher).”

¹⁹ οὐκέτι (no longer) εἰμὶ (am I) ἄξιος (worthy) κληθῆναι (to be called) υἱός (son) σου (of you). ποίησόν (Make) με (me) ὡς (like) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μισθίων (servants) σου (of you).”’ ²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀναστὰς (having risen up), ἦλθεν (he went) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself). ἔτι (Still) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (he) μακρὰν (far) ἀπέχοντος (being distant), εἶδεν (saw) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (was moved with compassion), καὶ (and) δραμὼν (having run), ἐπέπεσεν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) κατεφίλησεν (kissed) αὐτόν (him). ²¹ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Πάτερ (Father), ἥμαρτον (I have sinned) εἰς (against) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) καὶ (and) ἐνώπιόν (before) σου (you); οὐκέτι (no longer) εἰμὶ (am I) ἄξιος (worthy) κληθῆναι (to be called) υἱός (son) σου (of you).’

³⁸ Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) τὸν (-) ἀπὸ (from) Ναζαρέθ (Nazareth), ὡς (how) ἔχρισεν (anointed) αὐτὸν (Him) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (with Holy) καὶ (and) δυνάμει (with power), ὃς (who) διῆλθεν (went about) εὐεργετῶν (doing good) καὶ (and) ἰώμενος (healing) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) καταδυναστευομένους (being oppressed) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil), ὅτι (because) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἦν (was) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him).

⁶ μείζονα (Greater) δὲ (however) δίδωσιν (He gives) χάριν (grace). διὸ (Therefore) λέγει (it says): “Ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὑπερηφάνοις (the proud) ἀντιτάσσεται (opposes), ταπεινοῖς (to the humble) δὲ (however) δίδωσιν (gives) χάριν (grace).”

¹⁰ ταπεινώθητε (Humble yourselves) ἐνώπιον (in the presence of) Κυρίου (the Lord), καὶ (and) ὑψώσει (He will exalt) ὑμᾶς (you).
