²¹ τέξεται (She will bear) δὲ (then) υἱὸν (a son), καὶ (and) καλέσεις (you will call) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus); αὐτὸς (He) γὰρ (for) σώσει (will save) τὸν (the) λαὸν (people) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) αὐτῶν (of them).”

¹⁶ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) εἶπεν (said), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God) τοῦ (the) ζῶντος (living).”

²⁰ Τότε (Then) διεστείλατο* (instructed He) τοῖς (the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) ἵνα (that) μηδενὶ (to no one) εἴπωσιν (they should say) ὅτι (that) αὐτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ).

⁴³ καὶ (And) πόθεν (from where) μοι (to me) τοῦτο (this), ἵνα (that) ἔλθῃ (should come) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me) πρὸς (to) ἐμέ (me)?

⁶⁹ καὶ (and) ἤγειρεν (has raised up) κέρας (a horn) σωτηρίας (of salvation) ἡμῖν (for us), ἐν (in) οἴκῳ (the house) Δαυὶδ (of David) παιδὸς (of the servant) αὐτοῦ (of Him);

⁴ Ἀνέβη (Went up) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph), ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ἐκ (out of) πόλεως (the town) Ναζαρὲθ (of Nazareth), εἰς (to) τὴν (-) Ἰουδαίαν (Judea), εἰς (to) πόλιν (the City) Δαυὶδ (of David), ἥτις (which) καλεῖται (is called) Βηθλεέμ (Bethlehem), διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) εἶναι (being) αὐτὸν (his) ἐξ (of) οἴκου (the house) καὶ (and) πατριᾶς (family) Δαυίδ (of David),

²⁶ καὶ (And) ἦν (it was) αὐτῷ (to him) κεχρηματισμένον (divinely revealed) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Ἁγίου (Holy) μὴ (not) ἰδεῖν (to see) θάνατον (death) πρὶν (before) ἢ (that) ἂν (-) ἴδῃ (he should see) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) Κυρίου (of the Lord).

⁴¹ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Πῶς (How) λέγουσιν (do they declare) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) εἶναι (to be) Δαυὶδ (of David) υἱόν (Son)? ⁴² αὐτὸς (Himself) γὰρ (for) Δαυὶδ (David) λέγει (says) ἐν (in) βίβλῳ (the book) ψαλμῶν (of Psalms): ‘Εἶπεν (Said) Κύριος (the Lord) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) μου (of me), “Κάθου (Sit) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) μου (of Me), ⁴³ Ἕως (until) ἂν (-) θῶ (I place) τοὺς (the) ἐχθρούς (enemies) σου (of You), Ὑποπόδιον (as a footstool) τῶν (of the) ποδῶν (feet) σου (of You).”’ ⁴⁴ Δαυὶδ (David) οὖν (therefore) αὐτὸν (Him) Κύριον (Lord) καλεῖ (calls), καὶ (and) πῶς (how) αὐτοῦ (of him) υἱός (son) ἐστιν (is He)?”

⁴¹ εὑρίσκει (Finds) οὗτος (he) πρῶτον (first) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) τὸν (-) ἴδιον (own) Σίμωνα (Simon), καὶ (and) λέγει (he says) αὐτῷ (to him), “Εὑρήκαμεν (We have found) τὸν (the) Μεσσίαν (Messiah),”— ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) μεθερμηνευόμενον (translated) Χριστός (Christ).

⁴⁵ Εὑρίσκει (Finds) Φίλιππος (Philip) τὸν (-) Ναθαναὴλ (Nathanael) καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ὃν (Him whom) ἔγραψεν (wrote of) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (Law), καὶ (also) οἱ (the) προφῆται (prophets), εὑρήκαμεν (we have found), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) υἱὸν (son) τοῦ (-) Ἰωσὴφ (of Joseph), τὸν (-) ἀπὸ (of) Ναζαρέτ (Nazareth).”

⁴² τῇ (-) τε (and) γυναικὶ (to the woman) ἔλεγον (they were saying) ὅτι (-), “Οὐκέτι (No longer) διὰ (because of) τὴν (-) σὴν (your) λαλιὰν (speech) πιστεύομεν (we believe); αὐτοὶ (we ourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκηκόαμεν (have heard), καὶ (and) οἴδαμεν (we know) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ἀληθῶς (truly) ὁ (the) Σωτὴρ (Savior) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world).”

⁶⁹ καὶ (and) ἡμεῖς (we) πεπιστεύκαμεν (have believed) καὶ (and) ἐγνώκαμεν (have known) ὅτι (that) σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Ἅγιος (Holy One) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

²⁵ Ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) τινες (some) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν (of Jerusalem), “Οὐχ (Not) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is he) ὃν (whom) ζητοῦσιν (they seek) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill)? ²⁶ καὶ (And) ἴδε (behold), παρρησίᾳ (publicly) λαλεῖ (He speaks), καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing) αὐτῷ (to Him) λέγουσιν (they say) Μή‿ (not) ποτε (ever). ἀληθῶς (Truly) ἔγνωσαν (have recognized) οἱ (the) ἄρχοντες (rulers) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)? ²⁷ ἀλλὰ (But) τοῦτον (this man), οἴδαμεν (we know) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (He is). ὁ (The) δὲ (however) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὅταν (whenever) ἔρχηται (He may come), οὐδεὶς (no one) γινώσκει (knows) πόθεν (from where) ἐστίν (He is).”

⁴¹ Ἄλλοι (Others) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ).” Οἱ (Others) δὲ (however) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Μὴ (Not) γὰρ (indeed) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἔρχεται (comes)?

²⁷ Λέγει (She says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ναί (Yes), Κύριε (Lord); ἐγὼ (I) πεπίστευκα (have believed) ὅτι (that) σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the One) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ἐρχόμενος (coming).”

³¹ ταῦτα (these) δὲ (however) γέγραπται (have been written) ἵνα (that) πιστεύητε (you may believe) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) ἵνα (that) πιστεύοντες (believing), ζωὴν (life) ἔχητε (you may have) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

³⁶ Ἀσφαλῶς (Assuredly) οὖν (therefore) γινωσκέτω (let know) πᾶς (all) οἶκος (the house) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) ὅτι (that) καὶ (both) Κύριον (Lord) αὐτὸν (Him) καὶ (and) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐποίησεν (has made) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) — τοῦτον (this) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐσταυρώσατε (crucified).”

³¹ τοῦτον (Him) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) Ἀρχηγὸν (as Prince) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρα (Savior) ὕψωσεν (exalted) τῇ (by the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τοῦ (-) δοῦναι (to give) μετάνοιαν (repentance) τῷ (-) Ἰσραὴλ (to Israel) καὶ (and) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins).

³⁶ τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ὃν (that) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) τοῖς (to the) υἱοῖς (sons) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), εὐαγγελιζόμενος (proclaiming the gospel), εἰρήνην (peace) διὰ (by) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)— οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) πάντων (of all) Κύριος (Lord).

³ διανοίγων (opening) καὶ (and) παρατιθέμενος (setting forth) ὅτι (that) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἔδει (it behooved) παθεῖν (to have suffered), καὶ (and) ἀναστῆναι (to have risen) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) “Οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὃν (whom) ἐγὼ (I) καταγγέλλω (preach) ὑμῖν (to you).”

⁴⁷ ὁ (The) πρῶτος (first) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκ (was from) γῆς (the earth), χοϊκός (made of dust); ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐξ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven).

⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἦλθεν (had come) τὸ (the) πλήρωμα (fullness) τοῦ (of the) χρόνου (time), ἐξαπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of him), γενόμενον (having been born) ἐκ (of) γυναικός (a woman), γενόμενον (having been born) ὑπὸ (under) νόμον (the Law), ⁵ ἵνα (that) τοὺς (those) ὑπὸ (under) νόμον (the Law) ἐξαγοράσῃ (He might redeem), ἵνα (so that) τὴν (the) υἱοθεσίαν (divine adoption as sons) ἀπολάβωμεν (we might receive).

¹¹ καὶ (and) πᾶσα (every) γλῶσσα (tongue) ἐξομολογήσηται (should confess) ὅτι (that) ΚΥΡΙΟΣ (is Lord) ΙΗΣΟΥΣ (Jesus) ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christ), εἰς (to) δόξαν (the glory) Θεοῦ (of God) Πατρός (the Father).

⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) μὲν‿ (-), οὖν‿ (therefore) γε (indeed), καὶ (also) ἡγοῦμαι (I count) πάντα (all things) ζημίαν (loss) εἶναι (to be) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) ὑπερέχον (excelling) τῆς (-) γνώσεως (knowledge) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me), δι’ (because of) ὃν (whom) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐζημιώθην (I have lost), καὶ (and) ἡγοῦμαι (esteem them) σκύβαλα (rubbish), ἵνα (that) Χριστὸν (Christ) κερδήσω (I may gain)

⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἡ (the) χρηστότης (kindness) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φιλανθρωπία (love of mankind) ἐπεφάνη (appeared), τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), Θεοῦ (God), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) ἃ (that) ἐποιήσαμεν (did) ἡμεῖς (we), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (-) αὐτοῦ (His) ἔλεος (mercy), ἔσωσεν (He saved) ἡμᾶς (us) διὰ (through) λουτροῦ (the washing) παλινγενεσίας (of regeneration) καὶ (and) ἀνακαινώσεως (renewing) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁶ οὗ (whom) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us) πλουσίως (richly) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), ⁷ ἵνα (so that), δικαιωθέντες (having been justified) τῇ (-) ἐκείνου (by that) χάριτι (grace), κληρονόμοι (heirs) γενηθῶμεν (we should become) κατ’ (according to) ἐλπίδα (the hope) ζωῆς (of life) αἰωνίου (eternal).

¹⁴ καὶ (And) ἡμεῖς (we) τεθεάμεθα (have seen) καὶ (and) μαρτυροῦμεν (testify) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἀπέσταλκεν (has sent) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son as) Σωτῆρα (Savior) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world).

¹ Πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) πιστεύων (believing) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) γεγέννηται (has been born), καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (the One) γεννήσαντα (having begotten Him), ἀγαπᾷ (loves) ‹καὶ› (also) τὸν (the one) γεγεννημένον (having been begotten) ἐξ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him).
