¹¹ Ἐγὼ (I) μὲν (indeed) ὑμᾶς (you) βαπτίζω (baptize) ἐν (with) ὕδατι (water) εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance), ὁ (-) δὲ (but) ὀπίσω (after) μου (me) ἐρχόμενος (is coming) ἰσχυρότερός (mightier) μού (than I), ἐστιν (He) οὗ (of whom) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) ἱκανὸς (fit) τὰ (the) ὑποδήματα (sandals) βαστάσαι (to carry). αὐτὸς (He) ὑμᾶς (you) βαπτίσει (will baptize) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) καὶ (and) πυρί (with fire),

²⁰ λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) περισσεύσῃ (shall abound) ὑμῶν (your) ἡ (-) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) πλεῖον (above that) τῶν (of the) γραμματέων (scribes) καὶ (and) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (shall you enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens).

³ καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) στραφῆτε (you turn) καὶ (and) γένησθε (become) ὡς (as) τὰ (the) παιδία (little children), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (shall you enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens).

¹⁹ πορευθέντες (Having gone) οὖν (therefore), μαθητεύσατε (disciple) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations), βαπτίζοντες (baptizing) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit),

¹⁶ ὁ (The one) πιστεύσας (having believed) καὶ (and) βαπτισθεὶς (having been baptized) σωθήσεται (will be saved); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ἀπιστήσας (having disbelieved) κατακριθήσεται (will be condemned).

³ οὐχί (No), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you); ἀλλ’ (but) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοῆτε (you repent), πάντες (all) ὁμοίως (likewise) ἀπολεῖσθε (you will perish).

⁵ οὐχί (No), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you); ἀλλ’ (but) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοῆτε* (you repent), πάντες (all) ὡσαύτως (likewise) ἀπολεῖσθε (you will perish).”

²⁴ “Ἀγωνίζεσθε (Strive) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) στενῆς (narrow) θύρας (door); ὅτι (for) πολλοί (many), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ζητήσουσιν (will seek) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσουσιν (will be able).

¹³ οἳ (who) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) αἱμάτων (blood), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (of) θελήματος (will) σαρκὸς (of flesh), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (of) θελήματος (will) ἀνδρὸς (of man), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God) ἐγεννήθησαν (were born).

³ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) σοι (to you), ἐὰν (if) μή (not) τις (anyone) γεννηθῇ (be born) ἄνωθεν (from above), οὐ (not) δύναται (he is able) ἰδεῖν (to see) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

³⁸ Πέτρος (Peter) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Μετανοήσατε (Repent),” [φησίν] (he declared), “Καὶ (and) βαπτισθήτω (be baptized), ἕκαστος (every one) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) εἰς (for the) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) τῶν (of the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) λήμψεσθε (you will receive) τὴν (the) δωρεὰν (gift) τοῦ (of the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit).

¹⁹ μετανοήσατε (Repent), οὖν (therefore), καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψατε (turn again), πρὸς (for) τὸ (the) ἐξαλειφθῆναι (blotting out) ὑμῶν (of your) τὰς (-) ἁμαρτίας (sins),

² ὁ (-) γὰρ (For) νόμος (the law) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τῆς (of) ζωῆς (life) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἠλευθέρωσέν (has set free) σε (you) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin) καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death).

¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βρῶσις (eating) καὶ (and) πόσις (drinking), ἀλλὰ (but) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) καὶ (and) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy).

¹² ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now), οὐ (not) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐλάβομεν (have received), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (who is) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἵνα (that) εἰδῶμεν (we may know) τὰ (the things) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) χαρισθέντα (having been granted) ἡμῖν (to us),

¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

¹⁷ ὥστε (Therefore) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) ἐν (is in) Χριστῷ (Christ), καινὴ (he is a new) κτίσις (creation). τὰ (The) ἀρχαῖα (old things) παρῆλθεν (have passed away); ἰδοὺ (behold), γέγονεν (has come into being) καινά (the new). ¹⁸ Τὰ (-) δὲ (And) πάντα (all things) ἐκ (are of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), τοῦ (the One) καταλλάξαντος (having reconciled) ἡμᾶς (us) ἑαυτῷ (to Himself) διὰ (through) Χριστοῦ (Christ), καὶ (and) δόντος (having given) ἡμῖν (to us) τὴν (the) διακονίαν (ministry) τῆς (-) καταλλαγῆς (of reconciliation),

¹⁵ οὔτε (Neither) γὰρ (for) περιτομή (circumcision) τί (anything) ἐστιν (is), οὔτε (nor) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision); ἀλλὰ (instead) καινὴ (a new) κτίσις (creation).

⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Θεὸς (God), πλούσιος (rich) ὢν (being) ἐν (in) ἐλέει (mercy), διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) πολλὴν (great) ἀγάπην (love) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἣν (with which) ἠγάπησεν (He loved) ἡμᾶς (us), ⁵ καὶ (even) ὄντας (being) ἡμᾶς (we) νεκροὺς (dead) τοῖς (-) παραπτώμασιν (in trespasses), συνεζωοποίησεν (made us alive with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ) — χάριτί (by grace) ἐστε (you are) σεσῳσμένοι (saved) — ⁶ καὶ (and) συνήγειρεν (He raised us up together) καὶ (and) συνεκάθισεν (seated us together) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ⁷ ἵνα (in order that) ἐνδείξηται (He might show) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) αἰῶσιν (ages) τοῖς (that) ἐπερχομένοις (are coming) τὸ (the) ὑπερβάλλον (surpassing) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) χρηστότητι (kindness) ἐφ’ (toward) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ⁸ Τῇ (-) γὰρ (For) χάριτί (by grace) ἐστε (you are) σεσῳσμένοι (saved) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) τοῦτο (this) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (yourselves); Θεοῦ (it is of God) τὸ (the) δῶρον (gift), ⁹ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (as a result of) ἔργων (works), ἵνα (so that) μή (not) τις (anyone) καυχήσηται (may boast). ¹⁰ αὐτοῦ (Of Him) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are) ποίημα (workmanship), κτισθέντες (having been created) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἐπὶ (for) ἔργοις (works) ἀγαθοῖς (good), οἷς (which) προητοίμασεν (prepared beforehand) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ἵνα (that) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them) περιπατήσωμεν (we should walk).

²⁶ ἵνα (so that) αὐτὴν (her) ἁγιάσῃ (He might sanctify), καθαρίσας (having cleansed her) τῷ (by the) λουτρῷ (washing) τοῦ (-) ὕδατος (of water) ἐν (by) ῥήματι (the word),

¹³ Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) ὀφείλομεν (ought) εὐχαριστεῖν (to give thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved) ὑπὸ (by) Κυρίου (the Lord), ὅτι (that) εἵλατο (has chosen) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀπ᾽‿ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), εἰς (unto) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), καὶ (and) πίστει (by faith) ἀληθείας (of the truth); ¹⁴ εἰς (to) ὃ (this) καὶ (also) ἐκάλεσεν (He called) ὑμᾶς (you), διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) ἡμῶν (of us), εἰς (to) περιποίησιν (the obtaining) δόξης (of the glory) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἡ (the) χρηστότης (kindness) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φιλανθρωπία (love of mankind) ἐπεφάνη (appeared), τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), Θεοῦ (God), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) ἃ (that) ἐποιήσαμεν (did) ἡμεῖς (we), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (-) αὐτοῦ (His) ἔλεος (mercy), ἔσωσεν (He saved) ἡμᾶς (us) διὰ (through) λουτροῦ (the washing) παλινγενεσίας (of regeneration) καὶ (and) ἀνακαινώσεως (renewing) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁶ οὗ (whom) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us) πλουσίως (richly) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), ⁷ ἵνα (so that), δικαιωθέντες (having been justified) τῇ (-) ἐκείνου (by that) χάριτι (grace), κληρονόμοι (heirs) γενηθῶμεν (we should become) κατ’ (according to) ἐλπίδα (the hope) ζωῆς (of life) αἰωνίου (eternal).

² κατὰ (according to) πρόγνωσιν (the foreknowledge) Θεοῦ (of God) Πατρός (the Father), ἐν (by) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), εἰς (unto) ὑπακοὴν (the obedience) καὶ (and) ῥαντισμὸν (sprinkling) αἵματος (of the blood) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ): Χάρις (Grace) ὑμῖν (to you) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) πληθυνθείη (may be multiplied).

²¹ ὃ (which) καὶ (also) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀντίτυπον (prefigures) νῦν (now) σῴζει (saving) βάπτισμα (baptism), οὐ (not) σαρκὸς (of flesh) ἀπόθεσις (a putting away) ῥύπου (of the filth), ἀλλὰ (but) συνειδήσεως (of a conscience) ἀγαθῆς (good), ἐπερώτημα (the demand) εἰς (toward) Θεόν (God), δι’ (through) ἀναστάσεως (the resurrection) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

²⁹ Ἐὰν (If) εἰδῆτε (you know) ὅτι (that) δίκαιός (righteous) ἐστιν (He is), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ποιῶν (practicing) τὴν (-) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), ἐξ (of) αὐτοῦ (Him) γεγέννηται (has been begotten).

¹ Πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) πιστεύων (believing) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) γεγέννηται (has been born), καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (the One) γεννήσαντα (having begotten Him), ἀγαπᾷ (loves) ‹καὶ› (also) τὸν (the one) γεγεννημένον (having been begotten) ἐξ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him).

⁶ οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐλθὼν (having come) δι’ (by) ὕδατος (water) καὶ (and) αἵματος (blood), Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστός (Christ); οὐκ (not) ἐν (by) τῷ (-) ὕδατι (water) μόνον (only), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (by) τῷ (-) ὕδατι (water) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (-) αἵματι (blood). καὶ (And) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμά (Spirit) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the One) μαρτυροῦν (testifying), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμά (Spirit) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἀλήθεια (truth). ⁷ ὅτι (For) τρεῖς (three) εἰσιν (there are) οἱ (-) μαρτυροῦντες (bearing testimony): ⁸ τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood)— καὶ (and) οἱ (these) τρεῖς (three) εἰς (in) τὸ (-) ἕν (one) εἰσιν (are).
