³¹ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), πᾶσα (every) ἁμαρτία (sin) καὶ (and) βλασφημία (blasphemy) ἀφεθήσεται (will be forgiven) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men); ἡ (-) δὲ (however) τοῦ (against) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) βλασφημία (blasphemy) οὐκ (not) ἀφεθήσεται (will be forgiven). ³² καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἐὰν (if) εἴπῃ (speaks) λόγον (a word) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man), ἀφεθήσεται (it will be forgiven) αὐτῷ (him); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) εἴπῃ (speaks) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τοῦ (the) Ἁγίου (Holy), οὐκ (not) ἀφεθήσεται (it will be forgiven) αὐτῷ (him), οὔτε (neither) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) τῷ (-) αἰῶνι (age) οὔτε (nor) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) μέλλοντι (coming one).

⁴³ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (now) τὸ (the) ἀκάθαρτον (unclean) πνεῦμα (spirit) ἐξέλθῃ (is gone out) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ἀνθρώπου (man), διέρχεται (it passes) δι’ (through) ἀνύδρων (waterless) τόπων (places) ζητοῦν (seeking) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest), καὶ (and) οὐχ (none) εὑρίσκει (finds it). ⁴⁴ τότε (Then) λέγει (it says), ‘Εἰς (To) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) μου (of me) ἐπιστρέψω (I will return), ὅθεν (from where) ἐξῆλθον (I came out).’ καὶ (And) ἐλθὸν (having come), εὑρίσκει (it finds it) σχολάζοντα (being unoccupied), 〈καὶ〉 (and) σεσαρωμένον (swept), καὶ (and) κεκοσμημένον (put in order). ⁴⁵ τότε (Then) πορεύεται (it goes) καὶ (and) παραλαμβάνει (takes) μεθ’ (with) ἑαυτοῦ (itself) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἕτερα (other) πνεύματα (spirits) πονηρότερα (more evil) ἑαυτοῦ (than itself), καὶ (and) εἰσελθόντα (having entered in), κατοικεῖ (they dwell) ἐκεῖ (there); καὶ (and) γίνεται (becomes) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last) τοῦ (of the) ἀνθρώπου (man) ἐκείνου (that) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). οὕτως (So) ἔσται (it will be) καὶ (also) τῇ (unto) γενεᾷ (generation) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (the) πονηρᾷ (evil).”

⁴⁷ Ἐκεῖνος (That) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) δοῦλος (servant), ὁ (the one) γνοὺς (having known) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) κυρίου (master) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἑτοιμάσας (having prepared), ἢ (nor) ποιήσας (having done) πρὸς (according to) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of him), δαρήσεται (will be beaten with) πολλάς (many blows);

⁴¹ Εἶπεν (Said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Εἰ (If) τυφλοὶ (blind) ἦτε (you were), οὐκ (not) ἂν (-) εἴχετε (you would have) ἁμαρτίαν (sin); νῦν (since) δὲ (however) λέγετε (you say) ὅτι (-), ‘Βλέπομεν (We see),’ ἡ (the) ἁμαρτία (sin) ὑμῶν (of you) μένει (remains).”

¹⁷ εἰ (If) ταῦτα (these things) οἴδατε (you know), μακάριοί (blessed) ἐστε (are you) ἐὰν (if) ποιῆτε (you do) αὐτά (them).

²² εἰ (If) μὴ (not) ἦλθον (I had come) καὶ (and) ἐλάλησα (spoken) αὐτοῖς (to them), ἁμαρτίαν (sin) οὐκ (not) εἴχοσαν (they would have had); νῦν (now) δὲ (however) πρόφασιν (excuse) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (they have) περὶ (for) τῆς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sin) αὐτῶν (of them). ²³ Ὁ (The one) ἐμὲ (Me) μισῶν (hating), καὶ (also) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) μισεῖ (hates). ²⁴ εἰ (If) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) μὴ (not) ἐποίησα (I had done) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them) ἃ (that) οὐδεὶς (no) ἄλλος (other) ἐποίησεν (has done), ἁμαρτίαν (sin) οὐκ (not) εἴχοσαν (they would have had); νῦν (now) δὲ (however) καὶ (both) ἑωράκασιν (they have seen) καὶ (and) μεμισήκασιν (have hated) καὶ (both) ἐμὲ (Me) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me).

¹⁰ καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἀπάτῃ (deceit) ἀδικίας (of wickedness) τοῖς (unto those) ἀπολλυμένοις (perishing), ἀνθ’ (in return for) ὧν (which) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) οὐκ (not) ἐδέξαντο (they received), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) σωθῆναι (to be saved) αὐτούς (them).

¹³ τὸ (-) πρότερον (formerly) ὄντα (being) βλάσφημον (a blasphemer), καὶ (and) διώκτην (a persecutor), καὶ (and) ὑβριστήν (insolent); ἀλλὰ (but) ἠλεήθην (I was shown mercy), ὅτι (because) ἀγνοῶν (being ignorant), ἐποίησα (I did it) ἐν (in) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief).

⁴ Ἀδύνατον (It is impossible) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (to those) ἅπαξ (once) φωτισθέντας (having been enlightened), γευσαμένους (having tasted) τε (then) τῆς (of the) δωρεᾶς (gift) τῆς (-) ἐπουρανίου (heavenly), καὶ (and) μετόχους (partakers) γενηθέντας (having become) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁵ καὶ (and) καλὸν (the goodness) γευσαμένους (having tasted) Θεοῦ (of God’s) ῥῆμα (word), δυνάμεις (the power) τε (also) μέλλοντος (of the coming) αἰῶνος (age) — ⁶ καὶ (and then) παραπεσόντας (having fallen away) — πάλιν (again) ἀνακαινίζειν (to restore them) εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance), ἀνασταυροῦντας (crucifying) ἑαυτοῖς (in themselves) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) παραδειγματίζοντας (subjecting Him to open shame).

¹⁷ εἰδότι (To him knowing) οὖν (therefore) καλὸν (good) ποιεῖν (to do), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ποιοῦντι (doing), ἁμαρτία (sin) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐστιν (it is).

²⁰ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). ²¹ κρεῖττον (Better) γὰρ (for) ἦν (it would have been) αὐτοῖς (for them) μὴ (not) ἐπεγνωκέναι (to have known) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (way) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ἢ (than) ἐπιγνοῦσιν (having known it), ὑποστρέψαι (to have turned) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) παραδοθείσης (having been delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἁγίας (holy) ἐντολῆς (commandment). ²² συμβέβηκεν (Has happened) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸ (the thing) τῆς (of the) ἀληθοῦς (true) παροιμίας (proverb): “Κύων (A dog) ἐπιστρέψας (having returned) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (its) ἴδιον (own) ἐξέραμα (vomit),” καί (and), “Ὗς (A sow) λουσαμένη (having washed), εἰς (to her) κυλισμὸν (rolling place) βορβόρου (in the mire).”

¹⁶ Ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) ἴδῃ (should see) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἁμαρτάνοντα (sinning) ἁμαρτίαν (a sin) μὴ (not) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death), αἰτήσει (he shall ask), καὶ (and) δώσει (He will give) αὐτῷ (him) ζωήν (life), τοῖς (to those) ἁμαρτάνουσιν (sinning) μὴ (not) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death). ἔστιν (There is) ἁμαρτία (a sin) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death); οὐ (not) περὶ (concerning) ἐκείνης (that) λέγω (do I say) ἵνα (that) ἐρωτήσῃ (he should implore).
