¹⁹ [καὶ] (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γνωσόμεθα (we will know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἐσμέν (we are), καὶ (and) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) πείσομεν (we will assure) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ἡμῶν (of us),

³⁵ ἐν (By) τούτῳ (this) γνώσονται (will know) πάντες (all) ὅτι (that) ἐμοὶ (to Me) μαθηταί (disciples) ἐστε (you are), ἐὰν (if) ἀγάπην (love) ἔχητε (you have) ἐν (among) ἀλλήλοις (one another).”

³⁷ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to Him) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), “Οὐκοῦν (Then) βασιλεὺς (a king) εἶ (are) σύ (You)?” Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Σὺ (You) λέγεις (say) ὅτι (that) βασιλεύς (a king) εἰμι (I am). ἐγὼ (I) εἰς (for) τοῦτο (this) γεγέννημαι (have been born), καὶ (and) εἰς (for) τοῦτο (this) ἐλήλυθα (I have come) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἵνα (that) μαρτυρήσω (I may bear witness) τῇ (to the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth). πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) ὢν (being) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἀκούει (hears) μου (of Me) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice).”

²¹ καὶ (and) πληροφορηθεὶς (having been fully assured) ὅτι (that) ὃ (what) ἐπήγγελται (He had promised), δυνατός (able) ἐστιν (He is) καὶ (also) ποιῆσαι (to do).

³⁸ πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) οὔτε (neither) θάνατος (death), οὔτε (nor) ζωὴ (life), οὔτε (nor) ἄγγελοι (angels), οὔτε (nor) ἀρχαὶ (principalities), οὔτε (nor) ἐνεστῶτα (things present), οὔτε (nor) μέλλοντα (things to come), οὔτε (nor) δυνάμεις (powers),

¹² Δι’ (For) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) καὶ (also) ταῦτα (these things) πάσχω (I suffer). ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνομαι (I am ashamed); οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ᾧ (whom) πεπίστευκα (I have believed), καὶ (and) πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) ὅτι (that) δυνατός (able) ἐστιν (He is) τὴν (the) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted) μου (of me) φυλάξαι (to guard) εἰς (for) ἐκείνην (that) τὴν (-) ἡμέραν (day).

¹⁰ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἄδικος (unjust is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ἐπιλαθέσθαι (to forget) τοῦ (the) ἔργου (work) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) ἧς (that) ἐνεδείξασθε (you have shown) εἰς (toward) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him), διακονήσαντες (having ministered) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints) καὶ (and) διακονοῦντες (still ministering). ¹¹ Ἐπιθυμοῦμεν (We desire) δὲ (now), ἕκαστον (each) ὑμῶν (of you) τὴν (the) αὐτὴν (same) ἐνδείκνυσθαι (to show), σπουδὴν (earnestness), πρὸς (toward) τὴν (the) πληροφορίαν (full assurance) τῆς (of the) ἐλπίδος (hope) ἄχρι (unto) τέλους (the end),

²² προσερχώμεθα (we should draw near) μετὰ (with) ἀληθινῆς (a sincere) καρδίας (heart) ἐν (in) πληροφορίᾳ (full assurance) πίστεως (of faith), ῥεραντισμένοι (having been sprinkled clean) τὰς (our) καρδίας (hearts) ἀπὸ (from) συνειδήσεως (a conscience) πονηρᾶς (evil), καὶ (and) λελουσμένοι (having been washed) τὸ (our) σῶμα (body) ὕδατι (with water) καθαρῷ (pure).

¹³ Κατὰ (In) πίστιν (faith) ἀπέθανον (died) οὗτοι (these) πάντες (all), μὴ (not) κομισάμενοι (having received) τὰς (the) ἐπαγγελίας (promises), ἀλλὰ (but) πόρρωθεν (from afar) αὐτὰς (them) ἰδόντες (having seen), καὶ (and) ἀσπασάμενοι (having embraced them), καὶ (and) ὁμολογήσαντες (having confessed) ὅτι (that) ξένοι (strangers) καὶ (and) παρεπίδημοί (sojourners) εἰσιν (they are) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).

⁸ Ἐὰν (If) εἴπωμεν (we should say) ὅτι (that) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) οὐκ (not) ἔχομεν (we have), ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) πλανῶμεν (we deceive), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀλήθεια (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us).

¹⁴ Ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) μεταβεβήκαμεν (we have passed) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life), ὅτι (because) ἀγαπῶμεν (we love) τοὺς (our) ἀδελφούς (brothers). ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) θανάτῳ (death).

²¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἐὰν (if) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) ‹ἡμῶν› (of us) «μὴ (not) καταγινώσκῃ» (should condemn us), παρρησίαν (confidence) ἔχομεν (we have) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God),
