¹ Κατήντησεν (He came) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) εἰς (to) Δέρβην (Derbe) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Λύστραν (Lystra). καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), μαθητής (a disciple) τις (certain) ἦν (was) ἐκεῖ (there), ὀνόματι (named) Τιμόθεος (Timothy), υἱὸς (the son) γυναικὸς (of a woman) Ἰουδαίας (Jewish) πιστῆς (believing), πατρὸς (father) δὲ (however) Ἕλληνος (a Greek),

²² ἀποστείλας (Having sent) δὲ (then) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Μακεδονίαν (Macedonia) δύο (two) τῶν (of those) διακονούντων (ministering) αὐτῷ (to him), Τιμόθεον (Timothy) καὶ (and) Ἔραστον (Erastus), αὐτὸς (he) ἐπέσχεν (remained) χρόνον (for a time) εἰς (in) τὴν (-) Ἀσίαν (Asia).

²¹ Ἀσπάζεται (Greets) ὑμᾶς (you) Τιμόθεος (Timothy), ὁ (the) συνεργός (fellow worker) μου (of me), καὶ (also) Λούκιος (Lucius), καὶ (and) Ἰάσων (Jason), καὶ (and) Σωσίπατρος (Sosipater), οἱ (the) συγγενεῖς (kinsmen) μου (of me).

¹⁷ Διὰ (On account of) τοῦτο (this) 〈αὐτὸ〉 (it is) ἔπεμψα (I sent) ὑμῖν (to you) Τιμόθεον (Timothy), ὅς (who) ἐστίν (is) μου (my) τέκνον (child), ἀγαπητὸν (beloved) καὶ (and) πιστὸν (faithful) ἐν (in the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), ὃς (who) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀναμνήσει (will remind of) τὰς (the) ὁδούς (ways) μου (of me) τὰς (that are) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), καθὼς (as) πανταχοῦ (everywhere) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (every) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church) διδάσκω (I teach).

⁵⁸ Ὥστε (Therefore), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me) ἀγαπητοί (beloved), ἑδραῖοι (steadfast) γίνεσθε (be), ἀμετακίνητοι (immovable), περισσεύοντες (abounding) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἔργῳ (work) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) πάντοτε (always), εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) κόπος (toil) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) κενὸς (in vain) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord).

¹¹ μή (Not) τις (anyone) οὖν (therefore) αὐτὸν (him) ἐξουθενήσῃ (should despise). προπέμψατε (Equip) δὲ (however) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) εἰρήνῃ (peace), ἵνα (so that) ἔλθῃ (he might come) πρός (to) με (me); ἐκδέχομαι (I am expecting) γὰρ (for) αὐτὸν (him), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers).

¹ Συνεργοῦντες (Working together) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) παρακαλοῦμεν (we exhort) μὴ (not) εἰς (in) κενὸν (vain) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) δέξασθαι (to receive) ὑμᾶς (you).

¹⁹ Ἐλπίζω (I hope) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), Τιμόθεον (Timothy) ταχέως (soon) πέμψαι (to send) ὑμῖν (to you), ἵνα (that) κἀγὼ (I also) εὐψυχῶ (may be encouraged), γνοὺς (having known) τὰ (the things) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you). ²⁰ οὐδένα (No one) γὰρ (for) ἔχω (I have) ἰσόψυχον (like-minded), ὅστις (who) γνησίως (genuinely) τὰ (the things) περὶ (relative to) ὑμῶν (you) μεριμνήσει (will care for). ²¹ οἱ (Those) πάντες (all) γὰρ (for) τὰ (the things) ἑαυτῶν (of themselves) ζητοῦσιν (are seeking), οὐ (not) τὰ (the things) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ²² τὴν (-) δὲ (But) δοκιμὴν (the proven worth) αὐτοῦ (of him) γινώσκετε (you know), ὅτι (that) ὡς (as) πατρὶ (a father with) τέκνον (a child), σὺν (with) ἐμοὶ (me) ἐδούλευσεν (he has served) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel).

² καὶ (and) ἐπέμψαμεν (we sent) Τιμόθεον (Timothy), τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) συνεργὸν* (fellow worker) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) στηρίξαι (to strengthen) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (and) παρακαλέσαι (to encourage) ὑπὲρ (concerning) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith) ὑμῶν (of you),

¹² ἵνα (so that) περιπατῆτε (you may walk) εὐσχημόνως (properly) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), καὶ (and) μηδενὸς (of no one) χρείαν (need) ἔχητε (may have).
