¹⁴ Ὕστερον (Afterward) δὲ (now) ἀνακειμένοις (were reclining) αὐτοῖς (they); τοῖς (to the) ἕνδεκα (eleven) ἐφανερώθη (He appeared) καὶ (and) ὠνείδισεν (rebuked) τὴν (the) ἀπιστίαν (unbelief) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) σκληροκαρδίαν (hardness of heart), ὅτι (because) τοῖς (those) θεασαμένοις (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐγηγερμένον (arisen) οὐκ (not) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed).

³⁴ λέγοντας (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ὄντως (Indeed) ἠγέρθη (has risen) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) καὶ (and) ὤφθη (He has appeared) Σίμωνι (to Simon).” ³⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἐξηγοῦντο (began relating) τὰ (the things) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (road), καὶ (and) ὡς (how) ἐγνώσθη (He was known) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κλάσει (breaking) τοῦ (of the) ἄρτου (bread). ³⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτῶν (of them) λαλούντων (as they were telling), αὐτὸς (He Himself) ἔστη (stood) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).” ³⁷ πτοηθέντες (Having been terrified) δὲ (however), καὶ (and) ἔμφοβοι (filled with fear) γενόμενοι (having been), ἐδόκουν (they were thinking themselves) πνεῦμα (a spirit) θεωρεῖν (to see). ³⁸ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (Why) τεταραγμένοι (troubled) ἐστέ (are you), καὶ (and) διὰ (through) τί (why) διαλογισμοὶ (doubts) ἀναβαίνουσιν (do come up) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you)? ³⁹ ἴδετε (See) τὰς (the) χεῖράς (hands) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) μου (of Me), ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) αὐτός (He). ψηλαφήσατέ (Touch) με (Me) καὶ (and) ἴδετε (see), ὅτι (for) πνεῦμα (a spirit) σάρκα (flesh) καὶ (and) ὀστέα (bones) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), καθὼς (as) ἐμὲ (Me) θεωρεῖτε (you see) ἔχοντα (having).” ⁴⁰ καὶ (And) τοῦτο (this) εἰπὼν (having said), ἔδειξεν (He showed) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet). ⁴¹ Ἔτι (Still) δὲ (now), ἀπιστούντων (while they were disbelieving) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀπὸ (for) τῆς (the) χαρᾶς (joy) καὶ (and) θαυμαζόντων (amazement), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἔχετέ (Have you) τι (anything) βρώσιμον (to eat) ἐνθάδε (here)?” ⁴² οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἐπέδωκαν (they gave) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἰχθύος (of a fish) ὀπτοῦ (broiled) μέρος (part). ⁴³ καὶ (And) λαβὼν (having taken it), ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτῶν (them) ἔφαγεν (He ate it). ⁴⁴ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (now) πρὸς (unto) αὐτούς (to them), “Οὗτοι (These are) οἱ (the) λόγοι (words) μου (of me), οὓς (which) ἐλάλησα (I spoke) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἔτι (still) ὢν (being) σὺν (with) ὑμῖν (you), ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it behooves) πληρωθῆναι (to be fulfilled) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (Prophets) καὶ (and) ψαλμοῖς (the Psalms) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me).” ⁴⁵ τότε (Then) διήνοιξεν (He opened) αὐτῶν (their) τὸν (-) νοῦν (mind) τοῦ (-) συνιέναι (to understand) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures). ⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Οὕτως (Thus) γέγραπται (it has been written): παθεῖν (Was to suffer) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) ἀναστῆναι (to rise) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) ἡμέρᾳ (day); ⁴⁷ καὶ (and) κηρυχθῆναι (to be proclaimed) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μετάνοιαν (repentance) εἰς (and) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) εἰς (to) πάντα (all) τὰ (-) ἔθνη (nations), ἀρξάμενοι (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ⁴⁸ ὑμεῖς (You) ‹ἐστε› (are) μάρτυρες (witnesses) τούτων (of these things). ⁴⁹ Καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἐγὼ (I) ἐξαποστέλλω (am sending) τὴν (the) ἐπαγγελίαν (promise) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you); ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (however) καθίσατε (remain) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ἕως (until) οὗ (that) ἐνδύσησθε (you should be clothed with) ἐξ (from) ὕψους (on high) δύναμιν (power).”

⁴² ἤγαγεν (He led) αὐτὸν (him) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus). ἐμβλέψας (Having looked at) αὐτῷ (him), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) Σίμων (Simon) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) Ἰωάννου (of John); σὺ (You) κληθήσῃ (will be called) Κηφᾶς (Cephas)”— ὃ (which) ἑρμηνεύεται (means) Πέτρος (Peter).

¹⁹ Οὔσης (It being) οὖν (therefore) ὀψίας (evening) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (same), τῇ (the) μιᾷ (first) σαββάτων (of the week), καὶ (and) τῶν (the) θυρῶν (doors) κεκλεισμένων (having been shut), ὅπου (where) ἦσαν (were) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) διὰ (through) τὸν (the) φόβον (fear) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), ἦλθεν (came) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) ἔστη (stood) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) μέσον (midst), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).” ²⁰ καὶ (And) τοῦτο (this) εἰπὼν (having said), ἔδειξεν (He showed) 〈καὶ〉 (both) τὰς (His) χεῖρας (hands) καὶ (and) τὴν (His) πλευρὰν (side) αὐτοῖς (to them). Ἐχάρησαν (Rejoiced) οὖν (then) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples), ἰδόντες (having seen) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord). ²¹ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) πάλιν (again), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you); καθὼς (as) ἀπέσταλκέν (has sent forth) με (me) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father), κἀγὼ (I also) πέμπω (send) ὑμᾶς (you).” ²² καὶ (And) τοῦτο (this) εἰπὼν (having said), ἐνεφύσησεν (He breathed on them), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Λάβετε (Receive) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit) Ἅγιον (Holy). ²³ ἄν (If) τινων (of any), ἀφῆτε (you might forgive) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins), ἀφέωνται (they are forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them); ἄν (If) τινων (any) κρατῆτε (you might retain), κεκράτηνται (they are retained).” ²⁴ Θωμᾶς (Thomas) δὲ (however), εἷς (one) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), ὁ (the one) λεγόμενος (called) Δίδυμος (Didymus), οὐκ (not) ἦν (was) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ὅτε (when) ἦλθεν (came) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus). ²⁵ ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to him) οἱ (the) ἄλλοι (other) μαθηταί (disciples), “Ἑωράκαμεν (We have seen) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord).” Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) εἶπεν (he said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἐὰν (If) μὴ (not) ἴδω (I see) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) χερσὶν (hands) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὸν (the) τύπον (mark) τῶν (of the) ἥλων (nails), καὶ (and) βάλω (put) τὸν (the) δάκτυλόν (finger) μου (of me) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) τύπον* (mark) τῶν (of the) ἥλων (nails), καὶ (and) βάλω (put) μου (of me) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πλευρὰν (side) αὐτοῦ (of Him), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) πιστεύσω (will I believe).” ²⁶ Καὶ (And) μεθ’ (after) ἡμέρας (days) ὀκτὼ (eight) πάλιν (again) ἦσαν (were) ἔσω (inside) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) Θωμᾶς (Thomas) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them). ἔρχεται (Comes) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), τῶν (the) θυρῶν (doors) κεκλεισμένων (having been shut). καὶ (And) ἔστη (He stood) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) μέσον (midst) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) ὑμῖν (to you).”

² ἄχρι (until) ἧς (the) ἡμέρας (day), ἐντειλάμενος (having given orders) τοῖς (to the) ἀποστόλοις (apostles) διὰ (by) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy) οὓς (whom) ἐξελέξατο (He had chosen), ἀνελήμφθη (He was taken up), ³ οἷς (to whom) καὶ (also) παρέστησεν (He presented) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ζῶντα (alive) μετὰ (after) τὸ (the) παθεῖν (suffering) αὐτὸν (of Him) ἐν (with) πολλοῖς (many) τεκμηρίοις (proofs), δι’ (during) ἡμερῶν (days) τεσσεράκοντα (forty) ὀπτανόμενος (being seen) αὐτοῖς (by them) καὶ (and) λέγων (speaking) τὰ (the things) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ⁴ Καὶ (And) συναλιζόμενος (being assembled together), παρήγγειλεν (He instructed) αὐτοῖς (them) ἀπὸ (from) Ἱεροσολύμων (Jerusalem) μὴ (not) χωρίζεσθαι (to depart), ἀλλὰ (but) περιμένειν (to await) τὴν (the) ἐπαγγελίαν (promise) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father): “Ἣν (That which) ἠκούσατέ (you heard) μου (of Me); ⁵ ὅτι (for) Ἰωάννης (John) μὲν (indeed) ἐβάπτισεν (baptized) ὕδατι (with water); ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (however) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) βαπτισθήσεσθε (will be baptized) Ἁγίῳ (Holy), οὐ (not) μετὰ (after) πολλὰς (many) ταύτας (these) ἡμέρας (days).” ⁶ Οἱ (Those) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) συνελθόντες (having come together), ἠρώτων (were asking) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), εἰ (if) ἐν (at) τῷ (the) χρόνῳ (time) τούτῳ (this), ἀποκαθιστάνεις (are you restoring) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῷ (-) Ἰσραήλ (to Israel)?” ⁷ Εἶπεν (He said) ‹δὲ› (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Οὐχ (Not) ὑμῶν (yours) ἐστιν (it is) γνῶναι (to know) χρόνους (times) ἢ (or) καιροὺς (seasons) οὓς (which) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἔθετο (put in place) ἐν (by) τῇ (-) ἰδίᾳ (His own) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority). ⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) λήμψεσθε (you will receive) δύναμιν (power), ἐπελθόντος (having come) τοῦ (the) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ἔσεσθέ (you will be) μου (for Me) μάρτυρες (witnesses), ἔν (in) τε (both) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), καὶ (and) Σαμαρείᾳ (Samaria), καὶ (and) ἕως (to) ἐσχάτου (the uttermost part) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ταῦτα (these things) εἰπὼν (having said), βλεπόντων (beholding) αὐτῶν (they), ἐπήρθη (He was taken up), καὶ (and) νεφέλη (a cloud) ὑπέλαβεν (hid) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὡς (as) ἀτενίζοντες (looking intently) ἦσαν (they were) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (heaven) πορευομένου (as was going) αὐτοῦ (He), καὶ (then) ἰδοὺ (behold) ἄνδρες (men) δύο (two) παρειστήκεισαν (stood by) αὐτοῖς (them) ἐν (in) ἐσθήσεσι (apparel) λευκαῖς (white), ¹¹ οἳ (who) καὶ (also) εἶπαν (said), “Ἄνδρες (Men), Γαλιλαῖοι (Galileans), τί (why) ἑστήκατε (do you stand) βλέποντες (looking) εἰς (into) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven)? οὗτος (This) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὁ (-) ἀναλημφθεὶς (having been taken up) ἀφ’ (from) ὑμῶν (you) εἰς (into) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven), οὕτως (thus) ἐλεύσεται (will come) ὃν (in that) τρόπον (manner) ἐθεάσασθε (you beheld) αὐτὸν (Him) πορευόμενον (going) εἰς (into) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven).” ¹² Τότε (Then) ὑπέστρεψαν (they returned) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) ἀπὸ (from) ὄρους (the mount) τοῦ (-) καλουμένου (called) Ἐλαιῶνος (Olivet), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἐγγὺς (near) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), σαββάτου (a Sabbath day’s) ἔχον (holding) ὁδόν (journey). ¹³ καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἰσῆλθον (they had entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὑπερῷον (upper room), ἀνέβησαν (they went up) οὗ (where) ἦσαν (they were) καταμένοντες (staying), ὅ (-) τε (both) Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννης (John), καὶ (and) Ἰάκωβος (James) καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέας (Andrew), Φίλιππος (Philip) καὶ (and) Θωμᾶς (Thomas), Βαρθολομαῖος (Bartholomew) καὶ (and) Μαθθαῖος (Matthew), Ἰάκωβος (James son) Ἁλφαίου (of Alphaeus), καὶ (and) Σίμων (Simon) ὁ (the) Ζηλωτὴς (Zealot), καὶ (and) Ἰούδας (Judas son) Ἰακώβου (of James). ¹⁴ οὗτοι (These) πάντες (all) ἦσαν (were) προσκαρτεροῦντες (steadfastly continuing) ὁμοθυμαδὸν (with one accord) τῇ (-) προσευχῇ (in prayer), σὺν (with the) γυναιξὶν (women), καὶ (and) Μαριὰμ (Mary) τῇ (the) μητρὶ (mother) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus), καὶ (and) σὺν (with) τοῖς (the) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁴¹ οὐ (not) παντὶ (to all) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people), ἀλλὰ (but) μάρτυσιν (to the witnesses) τοῖς (-) προκεχειροτονημένοις (having been chosen beforehand) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἡμῖν (to us) οἵτινες (who) συνεφάγομεν (did eat with) καὶ (and) συνεπίομεν (drink with) αὐτῷ (Him) μετὰ (after) τὸ (-) ἀναστῆναι (rising) αὐτὸν (His) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead).

¹² λέγω (I mean) δὲ (now) τοῦτο (this), ὅτι (that) ἕκαστος (each) ὑμῶν (of you) λέγει (says), “Ἐγὼ (I) μέν (indeed) εἰμι (am) Παύλου (of Paul),” “Ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (and) Ἀπολλῶ (of Apollos),” “Ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (and) Κηφᾶ (of Cephas),” “Ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (and) Χριστοῦ (of Christ).”

²² εἴτε (whether) Παῦλος (Paul), εἴτε (or) Ἀπολλῶς (Apollos), εἴτε (or) Κηφᾶς (Cephas), εἴτε (or the) κόσμος (world), εἴτε (or) ζωὴ (life), εἴτε (or) θάνατος (death), εἴτε (or) ἐνεστῶτα (things present), εἴτε (or) μέλλοντα (things to come)— πάντα (all) ὑμῶν (yours),
