⁷ Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coining wrath? ⁸ Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance: ⁹ and think not to say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. ¹⁰ Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

³⁴ Generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

³³ Serpents, generation of vipers, how can you escape the condemnation of hell?

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil; and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the be ginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks that which is false, he speaks from what is his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

¹⁰ said: full of all deceit and all wickedness, child of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
