Luke 2 Cross References - Anderson

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabitants of the land should be enrolled. 2 This enrollment first took place when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be enrolled, each one to his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (for he was of the house and family of David,). 5 to be enrolled with Mary his be trothed wife, who was with child. 6 And it came to pass while they were there, that the days for her to be delivered were completed; 7 and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swathing-clothes, and laid him in the stable, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds, living in the open field, and guarding their flock by night. 9 And, behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were greatly afraid. 10 And the angel said to them: Be not afraid; for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be for all people. 11 For there is born for you this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be to you the sign: you will find the babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, and lying in a stable. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will among men. 15 And it came to pass, that, after the angels had gone away into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us now go to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. 16 And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the stable. 17 And after they had seen it, they made known every where the words that had been spoken to them of this child. 18 And all that heard, wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things in her mind, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been told to them. 21 And when eight days were completed for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, as it had been called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days for their purification were completed according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord, 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24 and to offer a sacrifice, according to that which is commanded in the law of the Lord: A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons. 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon. And this man was just and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him: 26 and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Anointed. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and said: 29 Now, Lord, thou dost let thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word, 30 for my eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 a light for a revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother wondered at the things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign to be spoken against, 35 (and a sword shall pierce through your own soul,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher; she was of great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity: 37 and she was a widow of about eighty-four years, and she departed not from the temple, but served, day and night, with fastings and prayers. 38 And she came in at that hour, and gave thanks to Lord, and spoke of him to all that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him. 41 And his parents went up every year to Jerusalem, at the feast of passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had kept the full number of days, and had set out to return, the child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew it not. 44 But supposing that he was in the company, they went a day's journey; and they sought for him among their relatives and acquaintance; 45 and not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him. 46 And it came to pass, after three days, that they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding, and his answers. 48 And when they saw him they were amazed. And his mother said to him: Child, why have you acted thus toward us? Be hold, your father and I have sought for you in sorrow. 49 And he said to them: Why did you seek for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house? 50 And they did not understand the words which he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. And his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with man.

Matthew 1:16

16 Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham till David are fourteen generations: and from David till the removal to Babylon are fourteen generations: and from the removal to Babylon till the Christ are fourteen generations. 18 But Jesus Christ was begotten thus: After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they had come together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not choosing to make an example of her, intended to put her away privately. 20 But while he was thinking of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take home Mary your wife; for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus; for he will save his people from their sins.

Matthew 2:9-11

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the young child was. 10 And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with very great joy. 11 And having come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they did him homage. 24 But the Pharisees, when they heard it, said: This man does not cast out the demons, unless by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons. 25 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. And no city or house divided against itself shall stand. 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason, they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you. 29 Or, how can any one enter the house of the strong man and spoil his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? and then he will plunder his house. 30 He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathers not with me, scatters. 31 Therefore I say to you, That every sin and impious speech shad be forgiven men: but the impious speech against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men. 32 And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be for given him, either in the present age, or in that which is to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree unsound, and its fruit unsound. For by the fruit the tree is known. 34 Generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. 35 The good man, out of his good treasury, brings forth good things; and the evil man, out of his evil treasury, brings forth evil things.

Because you can not understand my words. 44 You are of your father, the devil; and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the be ginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks that which is false, he speaks from what is his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 But because I speak the truth, you believe me not. 46 Which of you convicts me of sin? One thing I do know, that having been blind, I now see. 26 They said to him again: "What did he for you? How did he open your eyes? 27 He answered them: I have already told you, and you did not understand; why would you hear it again? Do you also wish to become his disciples? 28 They reviled him, and said: You are the disciple of that man; but we are the disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

I have come that they may have life, and have it in abundance. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, to whom the sheep do not belong, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep, and scatters them.

22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He that hates me, hates my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man has done, they would have had no sin; but now they have both seen, and hated both me and my Father.

And the Lord said: I am Jesus, whom you persecute. 6 But rise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do. 7 The men who journeyed with him stood amazed; for they heard a voice, but saw no one. 8 And Saul arose from the earth, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one; but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. 10 Now there was a certain disciple in Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision: Ananias. He answered: Behold me, Lord. 11 And the Lord said to him: Arise, and go into the street that is called Straight, and in quire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying; 12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias, coming in and laying his hand on him, that he may receive his sight. 13 But Ananias answered: Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he has done to thy saints in Jerusalem; 14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name. 15 But the Lord said to him: Go; for he is a vessel chosen by me to bear my name before nations and kings, and the sons of Israel. 16 For I will show him what great things he must suffer for my name. 17 And Ananias went, and entered the house, and laying his hands on him, said: Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he instantly received his sight; and he arose, and was immersed. 19 And, having taken food, he was strengthened.
