³ But he that prophesies speaks to men so as to build them up, to exhort and comfort them.

¹⁸ With many other exhortations he proclaimed the good news to the people.

³¹ Then the churches throughout the whole of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.

¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying: Brethren, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, speak.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, that through many afflictions we mast enter the kingdom of God.

³² And Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and strengthened them.

⁸ or, if any exhorts, let him attend to exhortation; if any one gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence: he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

¹⁹ Therefore, let us seek those things which belong to peace, and those which tend to mutual edification.

² Let each one of us please his neighbor in that which is good for his edification.

¹ Now, with respect to meats offered to idols, we know, (for we all have knowledge: knowledge puffs up with pride, but love edifies.

²³ All meats are lawful for me; but all are not profitable; all are lawful, but all do not edify.

⁴ He that speaks in an unknown tongue, edifies himself; but he that prophesies, edifies the church. ⁵ I am willing, indeed, that you should all speak in tongues, but rather that you should prophesy; for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, in order that the church may receive instruction.

¹² So, also, do you, since you greatly desire spiritual gifts, seek to excel to the building up of the church.

¹⁷ For you give thanks well, but the other is not edified.

²⁶ What, then, is it, brethren? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has something to teach, has an unknown tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

³¹ For you can all prophesy, one by one, that all may learn, and all may be encouraged;

⁴ who con soles us in all our afflictions, so that we are able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

⁷ so that, on the other hand, you should rather forgive and comfort him, lest such a one should be swallowed up in too much sorrow.

¹² for the complete instruction of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of the Christ, ¹³ till we all come to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to a measure of stature that fully develops the Christ; ¹⁴ that we might no longer be children, tossed and carried about by every wind of teaching, through the artifice of men, through craftiness used by them for the deliberate planning of deceit; ¹⁵ but speaking truthfully in love, we might grow up in all things, into him who is the head, even the Christ, ¹⁶ from whom the whole body, compactly fitted together, and united by every helping joint, according to the energy in the measure of each part, makes increase of the body, for the building up of itself in love.

²⁹ Let no impure speech come out of your mouth, but whatever is good for needful edification, that it may give grace to the hearers:

²² him I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts.

⁸ I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your condition, and comfort your hearts;

³ For our exhortation arose not from deception, nor from uncleanness, nor was it with guile;

¹¹ as indeed you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father his children,

² and we sent Timothy our brother and minister of God in the gospel of the Christ, in order that he might strengthen and comfort you with respect to your faith,

¹ Finally, then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you, by our Lord Jesus, that as you learned from us how you ought to walk and please God, you would abound more and more.

¹⁸ So, then, comfort one another with these words.

¹¹ Wherefore, exhort one another, and edify one another, as you also do. ¹² Now we beseech you, brethren, to have regard for those who labor among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and admonish you, ¹³ and that you esteem them very highly in love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. ¹⁴ We exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, earnestly care for the weak-minded, be of a long-suffering disposition toward all.

¹² Now we command such, and exhort them by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work with quietness, and eat their own bread.

⁴ nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which produce disputes rather than godly edification, which is in faith;

¹³ Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.

² And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren: but rather let them serve them, because they who partake of the benefit of their service, are believers and beloved brethren. These things enforce in your teaching and exhortation.

² preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and teaching.

⁹ holding fast the sure word as it is taught, that he may be able, by sound teaching, both to exhort and to convince the opposers.

⁶ Exhort the young men likewise to be sober-minded,

⁹ Exhort servants to be subject to their own masters, and to please them well in all things, not contradicting,

¹⁵ Speak these things, and exhort and rebuke with all strictness. Let no one despise you.

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day, lest any of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the custom of some; but exhorting one another, and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.

²² I beseech you, brethren, bear with my word of exhortation: for I have written to you in few words.

¹² By Sylvanus, a faithful brother to you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
