⁴⁸ What man is he that shall live and not see death,
That shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? [Selah

²³ For I know that thou wilt bring me to death,
And to the house appointed for all living.

²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship:
All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him,
Even he that cannot keep his soul alive.

⁷ None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother,
Nor give to God a ransom for him; ⁸ (For the redemption of their life is costly,
And it faileth for ever), ⁹ That he should still live alway,
That he should not see corruption.

¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol;
For he will receive me. [Selah

¹⁹ For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity. ²⁰ All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

⁸ There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power over the day of death; and there is no discharge in war: neither shall wickedness deliver him that is given to it.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

⁷ and the dust returneth to the earth as it was, and the spirit returneth unto God who gave it.
