¹ [A Psalm] of David.

Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me:
Fight thou against them that fight against me. ² Take hold of shield and buckler,
And stand up for my help. ³ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that pursue me:
Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. ⁴ Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul:
Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.
⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind,
And the angel of Jehovah driving [them] on. ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery,
And the angel of Jehovah pursuing them. ⁷ For without cause have they hid for me their net [in] a pit;
Without cause have they digged [a pit] for my soul. ⁸ Let destruction come upon him unawares;
And let his net that he hath hid catch himself:
With destruction let him fall therein. ⁹ And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah:
It shall rejoice in his salvation. ¹⁰ All my bones shall say,
Jehovah, who is like unto thee,
Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,
Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him? ¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up;
They ask me of things that I know not. ¹² They reward me evil for good,
[To] the bereaving of my soul. ¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth:
I afflicted my soul with fasting;
And my prayer returned into mine own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother:
I bowed down mourning, as one that bewaileth his mother. ¹⁵ But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:
The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not;
They did tear me, and ceased not: ¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts,
They gnashed upon me with their teeth. ¹⁷ Lord, how long wilt thou look on?
Rescue my soul from their destructions,
My darling from the lions. ¹⁸ I will give thee thanks in the great assembly:
I will praise thee among much people. ¹⁹ Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me;
Neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. ²⁰ For they speak not peace;
But they devise deceitful words against them that are quiet in the land. ²¹ Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me;
They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. ²² Thou hast seen it, O Jehovah; keep not silence:
O Lord, be not far from me. ²³ Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice [due] unto me,
[Even] unto my cause, my God and my Lord. ²⁴ Judge me, O Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness;
And let them not rejoice over me. ²⁵ Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it:
Let them not say, We have swallowed him up. ²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me. ²⁷ Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause:
Yea, let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified,
Who hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. ²⁸ And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness
[And] of thy praise all the day long.

²⁵ And he took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for Jehovah fighteth for them against the Egyptians.

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

¹⁵ Jehovah therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thy hand.

²⁰ in what place soever ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us; our God will fight for us.

¹ Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation:
Oh deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

¹⁵⁴ Plead thou my cause, and redeem me:
Quicken me according to thy word.

²³ For Jehovah will plead their cause,
And despoil of life those that despoil them.

¹¹ For their Redeemer is strong;
He will plead their cause against thee.

²⁵ But thus saith Jehovah, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

³⁶ Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

⁵⁸ O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of Jehovah, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, [and] I shall behold his righteousness.

³⁹ but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God.

⁹ And there arose a great clamor: and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: and what if a spirit hath spoken to him, or an angel?

³ Jehovah is a man of war:
Jehovah is his name.

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword,
And my hand take hold on judgment;
I will render vengeance to mine adversaries,
And will recompense them that hate me. ⁴² I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,
And my sword shall devour flesh;
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

¹² If a man turn not, he will whet his sword;
He hath bent his bow, and made it ready; ¹³ He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death;
He maketh his arrows fiery [shafts].

⁴ He will cover thee with his pinions,
And under his wings shalt thou take refuge:
His truth is a shield and a buckler.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even Jehovah, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

¹³ Jehovah will go forth as a mighty man; he will stir up [his] zeal like a man of war: he will cry, yea, he will shout aloud; he will do mightily against his enemies.

¹⁸ I have waited for thy salvation, O Jehovah.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them. ²⁷ But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have made a raid upon the land.

¹⁰ Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

² When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh,
[Even] mine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

¹² Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
And uphold me with a willing spirit.

⁷ With God is my salvation and my glory:
The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee:
The residue of wrath shalt thou gird upon thee.

¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him,
And show him my salvation.

⁹ Make an uproar, O ye peoples, and be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

¹² Wherefore it shall come to pass, that, when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for Jehovah, [even] Jehovah, is my strength and song; and he is become my salvation.

³⁰ For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

²³ See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me of a certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.

¹⁰ And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

¹⁷ Let me not be put to shame, O Jehovah; for I have called upon thee:
Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol. ¹⁸ Let the lying lips be dumb,
Which speak against the righteous insolently,
With pride and contempt.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

¹² They also that seek after my life lay snares [for me];
And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things,
And meditate deceits all the day long.

¹⁴ Let them be put to shame and confounded together
That seek after my soul to destroy it:
Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor
That delight in my hurt. ¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame
That say unto me, Aha, aha.

That say,

²⁴ My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long;
For they are put to shame, for they are confounded, that seek my hurt.

⁵ Let them be put to shame and turned backward,
All they that hate Zion.

²⁹ Because of thy raging against me, and because thine arrogancy is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

⁵ Wherefore have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: terror is on every side, saith Jehovah.

¹⁹ And ye have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hearken unto lies.

¹ Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

⁶ When therefore he said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground.

¹⁹ And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them:

¹⁸ That they are as stubble before the wind,
And as chaff that the storm carrieth away?

⁴ The wicked are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

¹³ O my God, make them like the whirling dust;
As stubble before the wind. ¹⁴ As the fire that burneth the forest,
And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire, ¹⁵ So pursue them with thy tempest,
And terrify them with thy storm. ¹⁶ Fill their faces with confusion,
That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah. ¹⁷ Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;
Yea, let them be confounded and perish;

¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but he shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

⁵ But the multitude of thy foes shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be in an instant suddenly.

³⁶ And the angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

³ Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

²⁸ By faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

¹⁸ Surely thou settest them in slippery places:
Thou castest them down to destruction.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness:
They know not at what they stumble.

¹⁶ Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹² Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein; for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith Jehovah.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet,
And he walketh upon the toils.

³ O Jehovah my God, if I have done this;
If there be iniquity in my hands; ⁴ If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me
(Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary); ⁵ Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;
Yea, let him tread my life down to the earth,
And lay my glory in the dust. [Selah

¹⁵ The nations are sunk down in the pit that they made:
In the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

³ Yea, none that wait for thee shall be put to shame:
They shall be put to shame that deal treacherously without cause.

⁴ That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect:
Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

⁴ They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head:
They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty:
That which I took not away I have to restore.

⁸⁵ The proud have digged pits for me,
Who are not according to thy law.

⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords;
They have spread a net by the wayside;
They have set gins for me. [Selah

²⁵ But [this cometh to pass], that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

¹⁷ And Saul said to David, Behold, my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight Jehovah's battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

² And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. ³ And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers. ⁴ Then said Saul to his armorbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

² and I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed, and will make him afraid; and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only; ³ and I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: [so] all the people shall be in peace. ⁴ And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

¹⁴ Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. ¹⁵ And ten young men that bare Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

¹⁵ He hath made a pit, and digged it,
And is fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His mischief shall return upon his own head,
And his violence shall come down upon his own pate.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down:
They have digged a pit before me;
They are fallen into the midst thereof themselves. [Selah

⁷ But God will shoot at them;
With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.

¹⁸ Surely thou settest them in slippery places:
Thou castest them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How are they become a desolation in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh,
So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me,
And from the gins of the workers of iniquity. ¹⁰ Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
Whilst that I withal escape.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked,
And he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.

¹ He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck
Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy

¹¹ Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know the dawning thereof: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it away: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou knowest not.

³ Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou [to it]. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:

³ When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

¹ And Hannah prayed, and said:
My heart exulteth in Jehovah;
My horn is exalted in Jehovah;
My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies;
Because I rejoice in thy salvation.

¹⁴ That I may show forth all thy praise.
In the gates of the daughter of Zion I will rejoice in thy salvation.

⁵ But I have trusted in thy lovingkindness;
My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

The king shall joy in thy strength, O Jehovah;
And in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

²¹ For our heart shall rejoice in him,
Because we have trusted in his holy name.

¹¹ Let mount Zion be glad,
Let the daughters of Judah rejoice,
Because of thy judgments.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance:
He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked; ¹¹ So that men shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous:
Verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth.

Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered;
Let them also that hate him flee before him. ² As smoke is driven away, so drive them away:
As wax melteth before the fire,
So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. ³ But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God:
Yea, let them rejoice with gladness.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with a garland, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

⁴⁶ And Mary said,
My soul doth magnify the Lord, ⁴⁷ And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹ Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not irksome, but for you it is safe. ² Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the concision: ³ for we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh:

¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O Jehovah, among the gods?
Who is like thee, glorious in holiness,
Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

¹⁵ But he saveth from the sword of their mouth,
Even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor hath hope,
And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed,
And with continual strife in his bones; ²⁰ So that his life abhorreth bread,
And his soul dainty food. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen;
And his bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit,
And his life to the destroyers.
²³ If there be with him an angel,
An interpreter, one among a thousand,
To show unto man what is right for him; ²⁴ Then [God] is gracious unto him, and saith,
Deliver him from going down to the pit,
I have found a ransom. ²⁵ His flesh shall be fresher than a child's;
He returneth to the days of his youth.

¹⁴ Thou hast seen [it]; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand:
The helpless committeth [himself] unto thee;
Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint:
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me.

²⁴ For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Neither hath he hid his face from him;
But when he cried unto him, he heard.

³ When I kept silence, my bones wasted away
Through my groaning all the day long.

⁶ This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.

²⁰ He keepeth all his bones:
Not one of them is broken.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay such as are upright in the way.

³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation;
Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

⁸ Make me to hear joy and gladness,
That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

³³ For Jehovah heareth the needy,
And despiseth not his prisoners.

¹⁹ Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high;
Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like unto thee?

⁸ There is none like unto thee among the gods, O Lord;
Neither [are there any works] like unto thy works.

⁶ For who in the skies can be compared unto Jehovah?
Who among the sons of the mighty is like unto Jehovah, ⁷ A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones,
And to be feared above all them that are round about him? ⁸ O Jehovah God of hosts,
Who is a mighty one, like unto thee, O Jehovah?
And thy faithfulness is round about thee.

³ For my days consume away like smoke,
And my bones are burned as a firebrand.

¹⁷ He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute,
And hath not despised their prayer. ¹⁸ This shall be written for the generation to come;
And a people which shall be created shall praise Jehovah. ¹⁹ For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary;
From heaven did Jehovah behold the earth; ²⁰ To hear the sighing of the prisoner;
To loose those that are appointed to death;

³¹ For he will stand at the right hand of the needy,
To save him from them that judge his soul.

¹² I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
And justice for the needy.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor;
Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For Jehovah will plead their cause,
And despoil of life those that despoil them.

¹⁸ To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

²⁵ To whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal [to him]? saith the Holy One.

⁷ Who should not fear thee, O King of the nations? for to thee doth it appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like unto thee.

⁹ And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there are many servants now-a-days that break away every man from his master.

¹² Deliver me not over unto the will of mine adversaries:
For false witnesses are risen up against me,
And such as breathe out cruelty.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; ⁶⁰ and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two,

¹³ and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against this holy place, and the law:

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: ⁶ who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold:

¹² and neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city. ¹³ Neither can they prove to thee the things whereof they now accuse me.

⁴ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: ⁵ for he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Jehovah wrought a great victory for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice; wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

¹⁵ And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done? ³³ And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to put David to death.

¹³ And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?

²⁰ They also that render evil for good
Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good.

³ They have compassed me about also with words of hatred,
And fought against me without a cause. ⁴ For my love they are my adversaries:
But I [give myself unto] prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good,
And hatred for my love.

¹³ Whoso rewardeth evil for good,
Evil shall not depart from his house.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

²¹ but they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him. ²² And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and release him. ²³ But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

³² Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from the Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

²⁹ And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the home-born, or the stranger that sojourneth among you:

³¹ It is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute for ever.

²⁷ And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. ²⁸ And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

²⁵ Did not I weep for him that was in trouble?
Was not my soul grieved for the needy?

¹⁰ When I wept, [and chastened] my soul with fasting,
That was to my reproach. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword unto them.

³ Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.

⁵ Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Jehovah?

⁴⁴ but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

¹⁴ Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? ¹⁵ And Jesus said unto them, { Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast.

¹³ And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

⁶ And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall turn to you again.

¹⁴ Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not. ¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

¹¹ Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him: ¹² and they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

¹⁷ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son ¹⁸ (and he bade them teach the children of Judah [the song of] the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jashar): ¹⁹ Thy glory, O Israel, is slain upon thy high places!
How are the mighty fallen! ²⁰ Tell it not in Gath,
Publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon;
Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,
Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. ²¹ Ye mountains of Gilboa,
Let there be no dew nor rain upon you, neither fields of offerings:
For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away,
The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil. ²² From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty,
The bow of Jonathan turned not back,
And the sword of Saul returned not empty. ²³ Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives,
And in their death they were not divided:
They were swifter than eagles,
They were stronger than lions. ²⁴ Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
Who clothed you in scarlet delicately,
Who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel. ²⁵ How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle!
Jonathan is slain upon thy high places. ²⁶ I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan:
Very pleasant hast thou been unto me:
Thy love to me was wonderful,
Passing the love of women. ²⁷ How are the mighty fallen,
And the weapons of war perished!

⁶ I am pained and bowed down greatly;
I go mourning all the day long.

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, { If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

⁹ He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me;
He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth:
Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

¹ But now they that are younger than I have me in derision,
Whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock. ² Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me?
Men in whom ripe age is perished. ³ They are gaunt with want and famine;
They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation. ⁴ They pluck salt-wort by the bushes;
And the roots of the broom are their food. ⁵ They are driven forth from the midst [of men];
They cry after them as after a thief; ⁶ So that they dwell in frightful valleys,
In holes of the earth and of the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they bray;
Under the nettles they are gathered together. ⁸ [They are] children of fools, yea, children of base men;
They were scouraged out of the land.
⁹ And now I am become their song,
Yea, I am a byword unto them. ¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me,
And spare not to spit in my face. ¹¹ For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me;
And they have cast off the bridle before me. ¹² Upon my right hand rise the rabble;
They thrust aside my feet,
And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me,
Or lifted up myself when evil found him

² Lest they tear my soul like a lion,
Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me:
A company of evil-doers have inclosed me;
They pierced my hands and my feet.

⁸ Let destruction come upon him unawares;
And let his net that he hath hid catch himself:
With destruction let him fall therein.

²⁵ Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it:
Let them not say, We have swallowed him up. ²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.

⁸ An evil disease, [say they], cleaveth fast unto him;
And now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.

⁴ My soul is among lions;
I lie among them that are set on fire,
Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.

¹² They that sit in the gate talk of me;
And [I am] the song of the drunkards.

¹⁰ For mine enemies speak concerning me;
And they that watch for my soul take counsel together, ¹¹ Saying, God hath forsaken him:
Pursue and take him; for there is none to deliver.

⁵ Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker;
[And] he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth,
And let not thy heart be glad when he is overthrown; ¹⁸ Lest Jehovah see it, and it displease him,
And he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, [say] all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered unto him the whole band. ²⁸ And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. ²⁹ And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! ³⁰ And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.

³⁹ And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him], with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him. ⁴³ He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

⁵ But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people.

⁶ rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;

²⁴ So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat food. ²⁵ And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul's side: but David's place was empty. ²⁶ Nevertheless Saul spake not anything that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean. ²⁷ And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, [which was] the second [day], that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to-day? ²⁸ And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem: ²⁹ and he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me [to be there]: and now, if I have found favor in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he is not come unto the king's table.
³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of a perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and unto the shame of thy mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done? ³³ And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to put David to death. ³⁴ So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
³⁵ And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him. ³⁶ And he said unto his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. ³⁷ And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee? ³⁸ And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master. ³⁹ But the lad knew not anything: only Jonathan and David knew the matter. ⁴⁰ And Jonathan gave his weapons unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city. ⁴¹ And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. ⁴² And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah shall be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed, for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the just,
And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are a trouble unto me; I am weary of bearing them. ¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you; yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

¹⁶ All thine enemies have opened their mouth wide against thee;
They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up;
Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

²⁸ They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

⁸ wherefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?
How long wilt thou hide thy face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

²⁰ Deliver my soul from the sword,
My darling from the power of the dog. ²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:
Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,
Neither let the deep swallow me up;
And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

⁹ We see not our signs:
There is no more any prophet;

All the workers of iniquity boast themselves.

⁶ Attend unto my cry;
For I am brought very low:
Deliver me from my persecutors;
For they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may give thanks unto thy name:
The righteous shall compass me about;
For thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

¹³ Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;

²² I will declare thy name unto my brethren:
In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee. ²³ Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him;
All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him;
And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁴ For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Neither hath he hid his face from him;
But when he cried unto him, he heard. ²⁵ Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly:
I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness
Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

⁹ I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly;
Lo, I will not refrain my lips, O Jehovah, thou knowest. ¹⁰ I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart;
I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation;
I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly.

God be merciful unto us, and bless us,

³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song,

¹¹ Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my life to take it. ¹² Jehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah avenge me of thee; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

¹² Why doth thy heart carry thee away?
And why do thine eyes flash,

⁴ Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him;
[Lest] mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.

² O my God, in thee have I trusted,
Let me not be put to shame;
Let not mine enemies triumph over me.

¹⁵ But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:
The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not;
They did tear me, and ceased not:

¹⁶ For I said, Lest they rejoice over me:
When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

¹⁹ But mine enemies are lively, [and] are strong;
And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

³ They have compassed me about also with words of hatred,
And fought against me without a cause.

Princes have persecuted me without a cause;
But my heart standeth in awe of thy words.

¹³ That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet,
That maketh signs with his fingers;

⁵² They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world. ²² And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies [lie] in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. ⁹ And from among the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations do [men] look upon their dead bodies three days and a half, and suffer not their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. ¹⁰ And they that dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and make merry; and they shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth.

¹³ For I have heard the defaming of many,
Terror on every side:
While they took counsel together against me
They devised to take away my life.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:
He hath ceased to be wise [and] to do good. ⁴ He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;
He setteth himself in a way that is not good;
He abhorreth not evil.

² Thy tongue deviseth very wickedness,
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect:
Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. ⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil purpose;
They commune of laying snares privily;
They say, Who will see them? ⁶ They search out iniquities;
We have accomplished, [say they], a diligent search:
And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.

⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech,
That I dwell among the tents of Kedar! ⁶ My soul hath long had her dwelling
With him that hateth peace. ⁷ I am [for] peace:
But when I speak, they are for war.

² Who devise mischiefs in their heart;
Continually do they gather themselves together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent;
Adders' poison is under their lips. [Selah ⁴ Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked;
Preserve me from the violent man:
Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps. ⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords;
They have spread a net by the wayside;

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

⁵ Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

¹⁹ He shall not strive, nor cry aloud;
Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

⁴ and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

¹⁵ Now therefore do ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you, as though ye would judge of his case more exactly: and we, before he comes near, are ready to slay him.

³ asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; laying a plot to kill him on the way.

²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:

¹³ They gape upon me with their mouth,
[As] a ravening and a roaring lion.

¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame
That say unto me, Aha, aha.

⁷ For he hath delivered me out of all trouble;
And mine eye hath seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.

¹² the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁵³ And when he was come out from thence, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon [him] vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things; ⁵⁴ laying wait for him, to catch something out of his mouth.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

¹ Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah?
Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

¹¹ Be not far from me; for trouble is near;
For there is none to help.

¹⁹ But be not thou far off, O Jehovah:
O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.

²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short,
And the joy of the godless but for a moment?

⁸ Jehovah ministereth judgment to the peoples:
Judge me, O Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and to mine integrity that is in me.

²⁰ Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of Jehovah,
And have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all his ordinances were before me,
And I put not away his statutes from me. ²³ I was also perfect with him,
And I kept myself from mine iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore hath Jehovah recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

Judge me, O Jehovah, for I have walked in mine integrity:
I have trusted also in Jehovah without wavering.

¹⁹ Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me;
Neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

⁶ if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,

²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil;
My desire shall be satisfied upon them;
I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

¹⁹ I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

³ Draw me not away with the wicked,
And with the workers of iniquity;
That speak peace with their neighbors,
But mischief is in their hearts.

Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up:
All the day long he fighting oppresseth me. ² Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long;
For they are many that fight proudly against me.

³ He will send from heaven, and save me,
[When] he that would swallow me up reproacheth; [Selah
God will send forth his lovingkindness and his truth.

⁸ They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether:
They have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

³ Then they had swallowed us up alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;

⁸ Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked;
Further not his evil device, [lest] they exalt themselves. [Selah

⁴³ He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁶ But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

⁸ And straightway Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, saith unto them, { Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

⁵⁴ But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

²² They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame;
And the tent of the wicked shall be no more.

⁵ If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me,
And plead against me my reproach;

⁴ Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul:
Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me;
Then I could have borne it:
Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me;
Then I would have hid myself from him:

¹³ Let them be put to shame [and] consumed that are adversaries to my soul;
Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.

²⁸ Let them curse, but bless thou:
When they arise, they shall be put to shame,
But thy servant shall rejoice. ²⁹ Let mine adversaries be clothed with dishonor,
And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

¹⁸ His enemies will I clothe with shame;
But upon himself shall his crown flourish.

¹¹ Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall be put to shame and confounded: they that strive with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.

¹³ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be put to shame; ¹⁴ behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for vexation of spirit. ¹⁵ And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen; and the Lord Jehovah will slay thee; and he will call his servants by another name:

²⁶ Make ye him drunken; for he magnified himself against Jehovah: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁴ For thou hast maintained my right and my cause;
Thou sittest in the throne judging righteously.

¹¹ Be glad in Jehovah, and rejoice, ye righteous;
And shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

¹⁶ Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee:
Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified.

³ But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God:
Yea, let them rejoice with gladness.

⁴ Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee;
And let such as love thy salvation say continually,
Let God be magnified.

⁹ Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness;
And let thy saints shout for joy.

¹⁶ Her priests also will I clothe with salvation;
And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

⁷ Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may give thanks unto thy name:
The righteous shall compass me about;
For thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

¹¹ Jehovah taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
In those that hope in his lovingkindness.

⁴ For Jehovah taketh pleasure in his people:
He will beautify the meek with salvation.

¹⁸ Riches and honor are with me;
[Yea], durable wealth and righteousness.

¹⁰ Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn over her; ¹¹ that ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

⁴⁰ and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me. ⁴¹ Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

¹⁴ Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

¹⁷ Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

²² And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

²⁶ And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or [one] member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

I will bless Jehovah at all times:
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble:
I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹⁴ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation;
[And] my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. ¹⁵ O Lord, open thou my lips;
And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

¹⁵ My mouth shall tell of thy righteousness,
[And] of thy salvation all the day;
For I know not the numbers [thereof].

³³ I will sing unto Jehovah as long as I live:
I will sing praise to my God while I have any being. ³⁴ Let thy meditation be sweet unto him:
I will rejoice in Jehovah.

I will extol thee, my God, O King;
And I will bless thy name for ever and ever. ² Every day will I bless thee;

⁵ Of the glorious majesty of thine honor,
And of thy wondrous works, will I meditate.

And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.
