¹ A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before Jehovah.

Hear my prayer, O Jehovah,
And let my cry come unto thee. ² Hide not thy face from me in the day of my distress:
Incline thine ear unto me;
In the day when I call answer me speedily. ³ For my days consume away like smoke,
And my bones are burned as a firebrand. ⁴ My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;
For I forget to eat my bread. ⁵ By reason of the voice of my groaning
My bones cleave to my flesh. ⁶ I am like a pelican of the wilderness;
I am become as an owl of the waste places. ⁷ I watch, and am become like a sparrow
That is alone upon the house-top. ⁸ Mine enemies reproach me all the day;
They that are mad against me do curse by me. ⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping, ¹⁰ Because of thine indignation and thy wrath:
For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away. ¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declineth;
And I am withered like grass. ¹² But thou, O Jehovah, wilt abide for ever;
And thy memorial [name] unto all generations. ¹³ Thou wilt arise, and have mercy upon Zion;
For it is time to have pity upon her,
Yea, the set time is come. ¹⁴ For thy servants take pleasure in her stones,
And have pity upon her dust. ¹⁵ So the nations shall fear the name of Jehovah,
And all the kings of the earth thy glory. ¹⁶ For Jehovah hath built up Zion;
He hath appeared in his glory. ¹⁷ He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute,
And hath not despised their prayer. ¹⁸ This shall be written for the generation to come;
And a people which shall be created shall praise Jehovah. ¹⁹ For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary;
From heaven did Jehovah behold the earth; ²⁰ To hear the sighing of the prisoner;
To loose those that are appointed to death; ²¹ That men may declare the name of Jehovah in Zion,
And his praise in Jerusalem; ²² When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve Jehovah. ²³ He weakened my strength in the way;
He shortened my days. ²⁴ I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:
Thy years are throughout all generations. ²⁵ Of old didst thou lay the foundation of the earth;
And the heavens are the work of thy hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but thou shalt endure;
Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;
As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But thou art the same,
And thy years shall have no end. ²⁸ The children of thy servants shall continue,
And their seed shall be established before thee.

²³ And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

¹⁶ And they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Jehovah; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah. ¹⁶ Count not thy handmaid for a wicked woman; for out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation have I spoken hitherto.

¹⁶ To-morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be prince over my people Israel; and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.

²⁷ Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy habitation, even unto heaven.

² Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God;
For unto thee do I pray.

⁵ Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,
Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;
I will set him in the safety he panteth for.

⁶ In my distress I called upon Jehovah,
And cried unto my God:
He heard my voice out of his temple,
And my cry before him came into his ears.

¹² Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, and give ear unto my cry;
Hold not thy peace at my tears:
For I am a stranger with thee,
A sojourner, as all my fathers were.

Blessed is he that considereth the poor:
Jehovah will deliver him in the day of evil. ² Jehovah will preserve him, and keep him alive,
And he shall be blessed upon the earth;
And deliver not thou him unto the will of his enemies.

⁴ These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me,
How I went with the throng, and led them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

Give ear to my prayer, O God;
And hide not thyself from my supplication. ² Attend unto me, and answer me:
I am restless in my complaint, and moan, ³ Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked;
For they cast iniquity upon me,
And in anger they persecute me. ⁴ My heart is sore pained within me:
And the terrors of death are fallen upon me. ⁵ Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me,
And horror hath overwhelmed me.

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me;
For my soul taketh refuge in thee:
Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge,
Until [these] calamities be overpast. ² I will cry unto God Most High,
Unto God that performeth [all things] for me. ³ He will send from heaven, and save me,
[When] he that would swallow me up reproacheth; [Selah
God will send forth his lovingkindness and his truth.

² From the end of the earth will I call unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed:
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

⁸ Trust in him at all times, ye people;
Pour out your heart before him:
God is a refuge for us. [Selah

Save me, O God;
For the waters are come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing:
I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah. ² Lord, hear my voice:
Let thine ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.

² I pour out my complaint before him;
I show before him my trouble. ³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
Thou knewest my path.
In the way wherein I walk
Have they hidden a snare for me.

⁴ Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me;
My heart within me is desolate.

⁷ Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth:
Hide not thy face from me,
Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.

¹⁹ He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him;
He also will hear their cry and will save them.

⁸ Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

¹⁸ And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.
¹⁹ Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

⁴⁴ Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

³³ And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled. ³⁴ And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

²¹ And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity?
For now shall I lie down in the dust;
And thou wilt seek me diligently, but I shall not be.

²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?
And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?
Alike whether [it be done] unto a nation, or unto a man:

How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?
How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

¹⁹ But be not thou far off, O Jehovah:
O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.

⁹ Hide not thy face from me;
Put not thy servant away in anger:
Thou hast been my help;
Cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

² Bow down thine ear unto me; deliver me speedily:
Be thou to me a strong rock,
A house of defence to save me.

Make haste to help me, O Jehovah.

² Deliver me in thy righteousness, and rescue me:
Bow down thine ear unto me, and save me.

² Let my prayer enter into thy presence;
Incline thine ear unto my cry. ³ For my soul is full of troubles,
And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol. ⁴ I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;
I am as a man that hath no help, ⁵ Cast off among the dead,
Like the slain that lie in the grave,
Whom thou rememberest no more,
And they are cut off from thy hand. ⁶ Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,
In dark places, in the deeps. ⁷ Thy wrath lieth hard upon me,
And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah ⁸ Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;
Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:
I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. ⁹ Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:
I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;
I have spread forth my hands unto thee. ¹⁰ Wilt thou show wonders to the dead?
Shall they that are deceased arise and praise thee? [Selah ¹¹ Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?
Or thy faithfulness in Destruction? ¹² Shall thy wonders be known in the dark?
And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? ¹³ But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried;
And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee. ¹⁴ Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul?
Why hidest thou thy face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:
While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. ¹⁶ Thy fierce wrath is gone over me;
Thy terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷ They came round about me like water all the day long;
They compassed me about together. ¹⁸ Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,
And mine acquaintance into darkness.

²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled;
Thou takest away their breath, they die,
And return to their dust.

¹⁷ And I will wait for Jehovah, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

² When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

²⁴ And it shall come to pass that, before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

⁵ Peter therefore was kept in the prison: but prayer was made earnestly of the church unto God for him. ⁶ And when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and guards before the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shined in the cell: and he smote Peter on the side, and awoke him, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. ⁸ And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. ⁹ And he went out, and followed; and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel, but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ And when they were past the first and the second guard, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth into the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and straightway the angel departed from him. ¹¹ And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a truth, that the Lord hath sent forth his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. ¹² And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together and were praying. ¹³ And when he knocked at the door of the gate, a maid came to answer, named Rhoda. ¹⁴ And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate. ¹⁵ And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she confidently affirmed that it was even so. And they said, It is his angel. ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed. ¹⁷ But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him forth out of the prison. And he said, Tell these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went to another place. ¹⁸ Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter. ¹⁹ And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judζa to Cζsarea, and tarried there.
²⁰ Now he was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: and they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king's country. ²¹ And upon a set day Herod arrayed himself in royal apparel, and sat on the throne, and made an oration unto them. ²² And the people shouted, [saying], The voice of a god, and not of a man. ²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
²⁴ But the word of God grew and multiplied.
²⁵ And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministration, taking with them John whose surname was Mark.

¹³ There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

³⁰ My skin is black, [and falleth] from me,
And my bones are burned with heat.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint:
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws;
And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

¹⁰ For my life is spent with sorrow,
And my years with sighing:
My strength faileth because of mine iniquity,
And my bones are wasted away.

²⁰ But the wicked shall perish,
And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as the fat of lambs:
They shall consume; in smoke shall they consume away.

³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation;
Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

⁸³ For I am become like a wine-skin in the smoke;
Yet do I not forget thy statutes.

¹³ From on high hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them;
He hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back:
He hath made me desolate and faint all the day.

⁴ My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

¹⁴ whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

⁷ And [as] he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. ⁸ And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, [and stood] beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

⁶ Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and [when] he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water; for he mourned because of the trespass of them of the captivity.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me,
The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up:
The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

¹ My soul is weary of my life;
I will give free course to my complaint;
I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

²⁰ So that his life abhorreth bread,
And his soul dainty food.

² Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah; for I am withered away:
O Jehovah, heal me; for my bones are troubled. ³ My soul also is sore troubled:
And thou, O Jehovah, how long?

² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.

⁶ O my God, my soul is cast down within me:
Therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan,
And the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.

²⁰ Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:
And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;
And for comforters, but I found none.

⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping,

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declineth;
And I am withered like grass.

³ For the enemy hath persecuted my soul;
He hath smitten my life down to the ground:
He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead. ⁴ Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me;
My heart within me is desolate.

⁷ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass.

¹³ He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and sore troubled. ³⁸ Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me.

⁹ And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink.

²⁰ My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh,
And I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

⁶ I am weary with my groaning;
Every night make I my bed to swim;
I water my couch with my tears.

⁸ Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity;
For Jehovah hath heard the voice of my weeping.

³ When I kept silence, my bones wasted away
Through my groaning all the day long. ⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:
My moisture was changed [as] with the drought of summer. [Selah

⁸ I am faint and sore bruised:
I have groaned by reason of the disquietness of my heart. ⁹ Lord, all my desire is before thee;
And my groaning is not hid from thee. ¹⁰ My heart throbbeth, my strength faileth me:
As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

²² A cheerful heart is a good medicine;
But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.

⁸ Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets:
Their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

²⁹ I am a brother to jackals,
And a companion to ostriches. ³⁰ My skin is black, [and falleth] from me,
And my bones are burned with heat.

¹¹ But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it; and the owl and the raven shall dwell therein: and he will stretch over it the line of confusion, and the plummet of emptiness. ¹² They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing. ¹³ And thorns shall come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. ¹⁴ And the wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the wolves, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; yea, the night-monster shall settle there, and shall find her a place of rest. ¹⁵ There shall the dart-snake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shade; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, every one with her mate.

¹⁴ Like a swallow [or] a crane, so did I chatter;
I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail [with looking] upward:
O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety.

⁸ For this will I lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and a lamentation like the ostriches.

¹⁴ And herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the pelican and the porcupine shall lodge in the capitals thereof; [their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar-work.

² And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird.

⁶⁶ and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear night and day, and shalt have no assurance of thy life. ⁶⁷ In the morning thou shalt say, Would it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would it were morning! for the fear of thy heart which thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

¹³ When I say, My bed shall comfort me,
My couch shall ease my complaint; ¹⁴ Then thou scarest me with dreams,
And terrifiest me through visions: ¹⁵ So that my soul chooseth strangling,
And death rather than [these] my bones. ¹⁶ I loathe [my life]; I would not live alway:
Let me alone; for my days are vanity.

² O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not;
And in the night season, and am not silent.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen stand afar off.

⁴ Thou holdest mine eyes watching:
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

⁶ My soul [waiteth] for the Lord
More than watchmen [wait] for the morning;
[Yea, more than] watchmen for the morning.

²⁸ Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him. ²⁹ Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope. ³⁰ Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

³³ And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled. ³⁴ And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch. ³⁵ And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him. ³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; remove this cup from me: howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt. ³⁷ And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, { Simon, sleepest thou? couldest thou not watch one hour?

¹ Why do the nations rage,
And the peoples meditate a vain thing?

¹¹ Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach,
Yea, unto my neighbors exceedingly,
And a fear to mine acquaintance:
They that did see me without fled from me. ¹² I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:
I am like a broken vessel. ¹³ For I have heard the defaming of many,
Terror on every side:
While they took counsel together against me
They devised to take away my life.

³ Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked;
For they cast iniquity upon me,
And in anger they persecute me.

⁹ For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;
And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me. ¹⁰ When I wept, [and chastened] my soul with fasting,
That was to my reproach.

⁵¹ Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah,
Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

¹⁵ And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen; and the Lord Jehovah will slay thee; and he will call his servants by another name:

²² and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

¹¹ But they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

¹² And when it was day, the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. ¹³ And they were more than forty that made this conspiracy. ¹⁴ And they came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Now therefore do ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you, as though ye would judge of his case more exactly: and we, before he comes near, are ready to slay him. ¹⁶ But Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, and he came and entered into the castle and told Paul. ¹⁷ And Paul called unto him one of the centurions, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain; for he hath something to tell him. ¹⁸ So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and saith, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and asked me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say to thee. ¹⁹ And the chief captain took him by the hand, and going aside asked him privately, What is it that thou hast to tell me? ²⁰ And he said, The Jews have agreed to ask thee to bring down Paul to-morrow unto the council, as though thou wouldest inquire somewhat more exactly concerning him. ²¹ Do not thou therefore yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor to drink till they have slain him: and now are they ready, looking for the promise from thee. ²² So the chief captain let the young man go, charging him, Tell no man that thou hast signified these things to me. ²³ And he called unto him two of the centurions, and said, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go as far as Cζsarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night: ²⁴ and [he bade them] provide beasts, that they might set Paul thereon, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
²⁵ And he wrote a letter after this form: ²⁶ Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix, greeting. ²⁷ This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be slain of them, when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. ²⁸ And desiring to know the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him down unto their council: ²⁹ whom I found to be accused about questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds. ³⁰ And when it was shown to me that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to thee forthwith, charging his accusers also to speak against him before thee.
³¹ So the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. ³² But on the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle: ³³ and they, when they came to Cζsarea and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Paul also before him. ³⁴ And when he had read it, he asked of what province he was; and when he understood that he was of Cilicia, ³⁵ I will hear thee fully, said he, when thine accusers also are come: and he commanded him to be kept in Herod's palace.

¹¹ And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.

³ For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.

²⁴ For my sighing cometh before I eat,
And my groanings are poured out like water.

³ My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

²¹ They gave me also gall for my food;
And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

⁵ Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears,
And given them tears to drink in large measure.

²⁰ He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

¹⁵ He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood. ¹⁶ He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

⁴⁸ Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people. ⁴⁹ Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

¹⁰ Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all: at Beth-le-aphrah have I rolled myself in the dust.

¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear unto Jehovah our God, and shall be afraid because of thee.

⁷ Jehovah maketh poor, and maketh rich:
He bringeth low, he also lifteth up. ⁸ He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,
He lifteth up the needy from the dunghill,
To make them sit with princes,
And inherit the throne of glory:
For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's,
And he hath set the world upon them.

⁸ But if thou wilt go, do [valiantly], be strong for the battle: God will cast thee down before the enemy; for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

⁶ As for me, I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved. ⁷ Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong:
Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.

¹⁸ For I will declare mine iniquity;
I will be sorry for my sin.

¹¹ When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity,
Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth:
Surely every man is vanity. [Selah

¹⁸ Surely thou settest them in slippery places:
Thou castest them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How are they become a desolation in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh,
So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

⁷ For we are consumed in thine anger,
And in thy wrath are we troubled. ⁸ Thou hast set our iniquities before thee,
Our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. ⁹ For all our days are passed away in thy wrath:
We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

⁶ Jehovah upholdeth the meek:
He bringeth the wicked down to the ground.

¹⁸ Jehovah is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment:
Hear, I pray you, all ye peoples, and behold my sorrow:
My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

³⁹ Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. ⁴² We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

¹⁶ The crown is fallen from our head:
Woe unto us! for we have sinned.

⁸ O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. ⁹ To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice: therefore hath the curse been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God; for we have sinned against him. ¹² And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet have we not entreated the favor of Jehovah our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in thy truth. ¹⁴ Therefore hath Jehovah watched over the evil, and brought it upon us; for Jehovah our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth, and we have not obeyed his voice.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

⁹ pursued, yet not forsaken; smitten down, yet not destroyed;

² He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down:
He fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

⁵ Behold, thou hast made my days [as] handbreadths;
And my life-time is as nothing before thee:
Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity. [Selah ⁶ Surely every man walketh in a vain show;
Surely they are disquieted in vain:
He heapeth up [riches], and knoweth not who shall gather them.

³ For my days consume away like smoke,
And my bones are burned as a firebrand. ⁴ My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;
For I forget to eat my bread.

²³ I am gone like the shadow when it declineth:
I am tossed up and down as the locust.

⁴ Man is like to vanity:
His days are as a shadow that passeth away.

¹² For who knoweth what is good for man in [his] life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

⁶ The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field. ⁷ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass. ⁸ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.

¹⁰ and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

²⁴ For,
All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:

¹⁵ And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

²⁷ The eternal God is [thy] dwelling-place,
And underneath are the everlasting arms.
And he thrust out the enemy from before thee,
And said, Destroy.

⁷ But Jehovah sitteth [as king] for ever:
He hath prepared his throne for judgment;

¹ A Prayer of Moses the man of God.

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place
In all generations. ² Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

²⁴ I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:
Thy years are throughout all generations. ²⁵ Of old didst thou lay the foundation of the earth;
And the heavens are the work of thy hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but thou shalt endure;
Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;
As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But thou art the same,
And thy years shall have no end.

¹³ Thy name, O Jehovah, [endureth] for ever;
Thy memorial [name], O Jehovah, throughout all generations.

⁶ Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.

¹⁵ Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man passed through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.

¹⁹ Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever;
Thy throne is from generation to generation.

⁸ Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday and to-day, (yea) and for ever.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as one dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying, { Fear not; I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ and the Living one; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

¹ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and [put it] also in writing, saying, ² Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath Jehovah, the God of heaven, given me; and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. ³ Whosoever there is among you of all his people, his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of Jehovah, the God of Israel (he is God), which is in Jerusalem. ⁴ And whosoever is left, in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, besides the freewill-offering for the house of God which is in Jerusalem.
⁵ Then rose up the heads of fathers' [houses] of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem. ⁶ And all they that were round about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered. ⁷ Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of Jehovah, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put in the house of his gods; ⁸ even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah. ⁹ And this is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, a thousand platters of silver, nine and twenty knives, ¹⁰ thirty bowls of gold, silver bowls of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand. ¹¹ All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up, when they of the captivity were brought up from Babylon unto Jerusalem.

⁶ Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;
Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,
And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.

²⁶ Rise up for our help,
And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake.

¹⁸ Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
Build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

³⁵ For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;
And they shall abide there, and have it in possession. ³⁶ The seed also of his servants shall inherit it;
And they that love his name shall dwell therein.

² When I shall find the set time,
I will judge uprightly.

³² What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of his people take refuge.

² Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

¹ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee.

¹⁰ And foreigners shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favor have I had mercy on thee. ¹¹ Thy gates also shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the wealth of the nations, and their kings led captive. ¹² For that nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted. ¹³ The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir-tree, the pine, and the box-tree together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious. ¹⁴ And the sons of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee The city of Jehovah, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ Hear the word of Jehovah, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off; and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. ¹¹ For Jehovah hath ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. ¹² And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of Jehovah, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

²³ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity: Jehovah bless thee, O habitation of righteousness, O mountain of holiness.

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years whereof the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.

²⁰ And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God; ²¹ yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. ²² And he instructed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee wisdom and understanding. ²³ At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment went forth, and I am come to tell thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.
²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. ²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the anointed one, the prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troublous times. ²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations [shall come] one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out upon the desolate.

⁹ And he said, Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end.

¹² Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. ¹³ But go thou thy way till the end be; for thou shalt rest, and shalt stand in thy lot, at the end of the days.

¹² Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? ¹³ And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words, [even] comfortable words.

¹⁰ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah. ¹¹ And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me unto thee. ¹² And Jehovah shall inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

⁷ And he said unto them, { It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority.

⁴ but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁸ But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

¹² looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said,
The kingdom of the world is become [the kingdom] of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever. ¹⁶ And the four and twenty elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell upon their faces and worshipped God, ¹⁷ saying,
We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign. ¹⁸ And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and [the time] to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.

⁵ Then rose up the heads of fathers' [houses] of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem.

¹ And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. ² Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt-offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. ³ And they set the altar upon its base; for fear was upon them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah, even burnt-offerings morning and evening.

²⁷ Blessed be Jehovah, the God of our fathers, who hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem;

³ And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

³ And I said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?

¹⁷ Then said I unto them, Ye see the evil case that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.

² And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?

⁶ So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto half [the height] thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

¹⁰ And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.

O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance;
Thy holy temple have they defiled;
They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

⁷ For they have devoured Jacob,
And laid waste his habitation. ⁸ Remember not against us the iniquities of our forefathers:
Let thy tender mercies speedily meet us;
For we are brought very low. ⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name;
And deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake. ¹⁰ Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God?
Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed Be known among the nations in our sight.

⁵ If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand forget [her skill]. ⁶ Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth,
If I remember thee not;
If I prefer not Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.

¹⁶ O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, let thine anger and thy wrath, I pray thee, be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are round about us.

⁴³ hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

² That thy way may be known upon earth,
Thy salvation among all nations. ³ Let the peoples praise thee, O God;
Let all the peoples praise thee. ⁴ Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy;
For thou wilt judge the peoples with equity,
And govern the nations upon earth. [Selah

³¹ Princes shall come out of Egypt;
Ethiopia shall haste to stretch out her hands unto God. ³² Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth;
Oh sing praises unto the Lord; [Selah

¹¹ Yea, all kings shall fall down before him;
All nations shall serve him.

⁹ All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord;
And they shall glorify thy name.

⁴ All the kings of the earth shall give thee thanks, O Jehovah,
For they have heard the words of thy mouth.

⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not; and a nation that knew not thee shall run unto thee, because of Jehovah thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

³ And nations shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
⁴ Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: they all gather themselves together, they come to thee; thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be carried in the arms. ⁵ Then thou shalt see and be radiant, and thy heart shall thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned unto thee, the wealth of the nations shall come unto thee. ⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praises of Jehovah. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee; they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar; and I will glorify the house of my glory. ⁸ Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? ⁹ Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of Jehovah thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.
¹⁰ And foreigners shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favor have I had mercy on thee. ¹¹ Thy gates also shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the wealth of the nations, and their kings led captive. ¹² For that nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted. ¹³ The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir-tree, the pine, and the box-tree together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious. ¹⁴ And the sons of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee The city of Jehovah, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
¹⁵ Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man passed through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. ¹⁶ Thou shalt also suck the milk of the nations, and shalt suck the breast of kings; and thou shalt know that I, Jehovah, am thy Saviour, and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. ¹⁷ For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron. I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. ¹⁸ Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, desolation nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise. ¹⁹ The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but Jehovah will be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. ²⁰ Thy sun shall no more go down, neither shall thy moon withdraw itself; for Jehovah will be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. ²¹ Thy people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. ²² The little one shall become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation; I, Jehovah, will hasten it in its time.

²⁰ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: [It shall] yet [come to pass], that there shall come peoples, and the inhabitants of many cities; ²¹ and the inhabitants of one [city] shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of Jehovah, and to seek Jehovah of hosts: I will go also. ²² Yea, many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek Jehovah of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of Jehovah. ²³ Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: In those days [it shall come to pass], that ten men shall take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said,
The kingdom of the world is become [the kingdom] of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.

²⁴ And the nations shall walk amidst the light thereof: and the kings of the earth bring their glory into it.

³⁵ For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;
And they shall abide there, and have it in possession.

⁶ The heavens declare his righteousness,
And all the peoples have seen his glory.

² Jehovah doth build up Jerusalem;
He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

² And it shall come to pass in the latter days, that the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. ³ And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.

¹ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of Jehovah is risen upon thee. ² For, behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; but Jehovah will arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee; they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar; and I will glorify the house of my glory.

³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified.

¹⁸ For I [know] their works and their thoughts: [the time] cometh, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and shall see my glory.

⁴ Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

⁷ And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

⁹ The women of my people ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their young children ye take away my glory for ever.

⁶ Ho, ho, flee from the land of the north, saith Jehovah; for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, saith Jehovah. ⁷ Ho Zion, escape, thou that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. ⁸ For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: After glory hath he sent me unto the nations which plundered you; for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. ⁹ For, behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall be a spoil to those that served them; and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me. ¹⁰ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah. ¹¹ And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me unto thee. ¹² And Jehovah shall inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. ¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before Jehovah; for he is waked up out of his holy habitation.

²⁹ But from thence ye shall seek Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt find him, when thou searchest after him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people,
And repent himself for his servants;
When he seeth that [their] power is gone,
And there is none [remaining], shut up or left at large.

⁶ let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my father's house have sinned:

¹¹ O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.

Now I was cupbearer to the king.

¹⁸ For the needy shall not alway be forgotten,
Nor the expectation of the poor perish for ever.

²⁴ For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Neither hath he hid his face from him;
But when he cried unto him, he heard.

²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see;
And make their loins continually to shake.

¹² For he will deliver the needy when he crieth,
And the poor, that hath no helper.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. ¹² And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. ¹³ And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. ¹⁴ And I will be found of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

³ And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. ⁴ And I prayed unto Jehovah my God, and made confession, and said, Oh, Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keepeth covenant and lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments, ⁵ we have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from thy precepts and from thine ordinances; ⁶ neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, that spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. ⁹ To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice: therefore hath the curse been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God; for we have sinned against him. ¹² And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet have we not entreated the favor of Jehovah our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in thy truth. ¹⁴ Therefore hath Jehovah watched over the evil, and brought it upon us; for Jehovah our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth, and we have not obeyed his voice. ¹⁵ And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly. ¹⁶ O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, let thine anger and thy wrath, I pray thee, be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are round about us. ¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. ¹⁸ O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies' sake. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God, because thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
²⁰ And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God; ²¹ yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

¹⁴ And Jehovah said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

¹⁹ Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel. ²⁰ For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxed fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant. ²¹ And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I sware. ²² So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel. ²³ And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
²⁴ And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, ²⁵ that Moses commanded the Levites, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying, ²⁶ Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. ²⁷ For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against Jehovah; and how much more after my death? ²⁸ Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them. ²⁹ For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
³⁰ And Moses spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.

²³ Oh that my words were now written!
Oh that they were inscribed in a book! ²⁴ That with an iron pen and lead
They were graven in the rock for ever!

³⁰ A seed shall serve him;
It shall be told of the Lord unto the [next] generation. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness
Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

¹⁶ Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children,
Whom thou shalt make princes in all the earth. ¹⁷ I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations:
Therefore shall the peoples give thee thanks for ever and ever.

¹³ Mark ye well her bulwarks;
Consider her palaces:
That ye may tell it to the generation following.

¹⁸ Yea, even when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not,
Until I have declared thy strength unto [the next] generation,
Thy might to every one that is to come.

⁴ We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah,
And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which he commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children; ⁶ That the generation to come might know [them], even the children that should be born;
Who should arise and tell [them] to their children,

⁷ every one that is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yea, whom I have made.

²¹ the people which I formed for myself, that they might set forth my praise.

¹⁷ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. ¹⁸ But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create; for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. ¹⁹ And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people; and there shall be heard in her no more the voice of weeping and the voice of crying.

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years whereof the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.

³¹ but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.

⁴ For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.

¹¹ Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹⁷ Wherefore if any man is in Christ, [he is] a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new. ¹⁸ But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.

¹⁶ Every scripture inspired of God [is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness: ¹⁷ that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.

⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God's] own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: ¹⁰ who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

¹⁵ Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.

¹⁵ Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the ground which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.

³⁹ then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

¹² Is not God in the height of heaven?
And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

² Jehovah looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there were any that did understand,
That did seek after God.

¹³ Jehovah looketh from heaven;
He beholdeth all the sons of men; ¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looketh forth
Upon all the inhabitants of the earth,

¹ Now in the things which we are saying the chief point [is this]: We have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, ² a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

²³ It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. ²⁴ For Christ entered not into a holy place made with hands, like in pattern to the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear before the face of God for us:

²³ And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. ²⁵ And God saw the children of Israel, and God took knowledge [of them].

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

⁴ And Jehoahaz besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened unto him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how that the king of Syria oppressed them.

²² And Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. ²³ But Jehovah was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

¹¹ Wherefore Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.

¹² From out of the populous city men groan,
And the soul of the wounded crieth out:
Yet God regardeth not the folly.

¹¹ Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee:
According to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to death;

⁷ Who executeth justice for the oppressed;
Who giveth food to the hungry.
Jehovah looseth the prisoners;

¹⁷ that made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; that let not loose his prisoners to their home?

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to them that are bound; ² to proclaim the year of Jehovah's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified.

³² and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.
³³ For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her. ³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out. ³⁵ The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee; he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass. ¹⁰ And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off; and he shall speak peace unto the nations: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
¹¹ As for thee also, because of the blood of thy covenant I have set free thy prisoners from the pit wherein is no water. ¹² Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope: even to-day do I declare that I will render double unto thee.

⁶ And when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and guards before the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shined in the cell: and he smote Peter on the side, and awoke him, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. ⁸ And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. ⁹ And he went out, and followed; and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel, but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ And when they were past the first and the second guard, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth into the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and straightway the angel departed from him. ¹¹ And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a truth, that the Lord hath sent forth his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

² wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—

¹³ Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah;
Behold my affliction [which I suffer] of them that hate me,
Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death; ¹⁴ That I may show forth all thy praise.
In the gates of the daughter of Zion I will rejoice in thy salvation.

²² I will declare thy name unto my brethren:
In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.

¹⁴ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation;
[And] my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. ¹⁵ O Lord, open thou my lips;
And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

¹³ So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture Will give thee thanks for ever:
We will show forth thy praise to all generations.

¹¹ And the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved), ⁶ and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly [places], in Christ Jesus: ⁷ that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus:

²¹ unto him [be] the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever. Amen.

Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,
Until Shiloh come:

And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

⁸ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from the River unto the ends of the earth. ⁹ They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him;
And his enemies shall lick the dust. ¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render tribute:
The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. ¹¹ Yea, all kings shall fall down before him;
All nations shall serve him.

²² Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my ensign to the peoples; and they shall bring thy sons in their bosom, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. ²³ And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah; and they that wait for me shall not be put to shame.

⁹ And [Jehovah] said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people, and I will not be your [God].
¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God. ¹¹ And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.

¹⁹ in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ;

²¹ For what careth he for his house after him,
When the number of his months is cut off?

³⁸ But thou hast cast off and rejected,
Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed. ³⁹ Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant:
Thou hast profaned his crown [by casting it] to the ground. ⁴⁰ Thou hast broken down all his hedges;
Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All that pass by the way rob him:
He is become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. ⁴³ Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword,
And hast not made him to stand in the battle. ⁴⁴ Thou hast made his brightness to cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ The days of his youth hast thou shortened:
Thou hast covered him with shame. [Selah ⁴⁶ How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever?
[How long] shall thy wrath burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Oh remember how short my time is:
For what vanity hast thou created all the children of men!

³ let no man beguile you in any wise: for [it will not be], except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, ⁴ he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God. ⁵ Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only [there is] one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming; ⁹ [even he], whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie: ¹² that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹ But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, ² through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron; ³ forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.

¹ But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. ² For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; ⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away. ⁶ For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts, ⁷ ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be. ¹⁰ But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience, ¹¹ persecutions, sufferings; what things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: and out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. ¹³ But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. ¹⁴ But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; ¹⁵ and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

² And the court which is without the temple leave without, and measure it not; for it hath been given unto the nations: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. ³ And I will give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. ⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks, standing before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if any man desireth to hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies; and if any man shall desire to hurt them, in this manner must he be killed. ⁶ These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire. ⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies [lie] in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. ⁹ And from among the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations do [men] look upon their dead bodies three days and a half, and suffer not their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. ¹⁰ And they that dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and make merry; and they shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth. ¹¹ And after the three days and a half the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them that beheld them. ¹² And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they went up into heaven in the cloud; and their enemies beheld them. ¹³ And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell; and there were killed in the earthquake seven thousand persons: and the rest were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
¹⁴ The second Woe is past: behold, the third Woe cometh quickly.
¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said,
The kingdom of the world is become [the kingdom] of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever. ¹⁶ And the four and twenty elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell upon their faces and worshipped God, ¹⁷ saying,
We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign. ¹⁸ And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and [the time] to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.
¹⁹ And there was opened the temple of God that is in heaven; and there was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant; and there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail.

¹³ And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman that brought forth the man [child]. ¹⁴ And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water as a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we know him not;
The number of his years is unsearchable.

¹³ Oh spare me, that I may recover strength,
Before I go hence, and be no more.

¹² But thou, O Jehovah, wilt abide for ever;
And thy memorial [name] unto all generations.

¹⁰ I said, In the noontide of my days I shall go into the gates of Sheol:
I am deprived of the residue of my years. ¹¹ I said, I shall not see Jehovah, [even] Jehovah in the land of the living:
I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. ¹² My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me as a shepherd's tent:
I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life; he will cut me off from the loom:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. ¹³ I quieted [myself] until morning; as a lion, so he breaketh all my bones:
From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. ¹⁴ Like a swallow [or] a crane, so did I chatter;
I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail [with looking] upward:
O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety. ¹⁵ What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it:
I shall go softly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul. ¹⁶ O Lord, by these things men live;
And wholly therein is the life of my spirit:
Wherefore recover thou me, and make me to live. ¹⁷ Behold, [it was] for [my] peace [that] I had great bitterness:
But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption;
For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. ¹⁸ For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee:
They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. ¹⁹ The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day:
The father to the children shall make known thy truth. ²⁰ Jehovah is [ready] to save me:
Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments
All the days of our life in the house of Jehovah.
²¹ Now Isaiah had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. ²² Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Jehovah?

¹² Art not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.

⁴ John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits that are before his throne;

⁸ I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

¹ And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

¹¹ for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Declare, if thou hast understanding. ⁵ Who determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest?
Or who stretched the line upon it? ⁶ Whereupon were the foundations thereof fastened?
Or who laid the corner-stone thereof, ⁷ When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

⁵ For all the gods of the peoples are idols;
But Jehovah made the heavens.

²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning,
Before the earth was. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was brought forth,
When there were no fountains abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled,
Before the hills was I brought forth; ²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,
Nor the beginning of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there:
When he set a circle upon the face of the deep, ²⁸ When he made firm the skies above,
When the fountains of the deep became strong, ²⁹ When he gave to the sea its bound,
That the waters should not transgress his commandment,
When he marked out the foundations of the earth; ³⁰ Then I was by him, [as] a master workman;
And I was daily [his] delight,
Rejoicing always before him, ³¹ Rejoicing in his habitable earth;
And my delight was with the sons of men.
³² Now therefore, [my] sons, hearken unto me;
For blessed are they that keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise,
And refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that heareth me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whoso findeth me findeth life,
And shall obtain favor of Jehovah. ³⁶ But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:
All they that hate me love death.

¹⁷ Ah Lord Jehovah! behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for thee,

¹⁰ And,
Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of thy hands: ¹¹ They shall perish; but thou continuest:
And they all shall wax old as doth a garment; ¹² And as a mantle shalt thou roll them up,
As a garment, and they shall be changed:
But thou art the same,
And thy years shall not fail.

³ For he hath been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by so much as he that built the house hath more honor than the house. ⁴ For every house is builded by some one; but he that built all things is God.

¹⁴ And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fade away, as the leaf fadeth from off the vine, and as a fading [leaf] from the fig-tree.

⁶ Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

¹⁷ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

²² For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith Jehovah, so shall your seed and your name remain.

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

³³ Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope

⁷ but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
⁸ But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. ⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in [all] holy living and godliness, ¹² looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

¹ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth are passed away; and the sea is no more.

⁴ For a thousand years in thy sight
Are but as yesterday when it is past,
And as a watch in the night.

⁶ For I, Jehovah, change not; therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.

⁴ Thy seed will I establish for ever,
And build up thy throne to all generations. [Selah

¹⁶ Let thy work appear unto thy servants,
And thy glory upon their children. ¹⁷ And let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And establish thou the work of our hands upon us;
Yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.

²⁰ And a Redeemer will come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith Jehovah. ²¹ And as for me, this is my covenant with them, saith Jehovah: my Spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seeds seed, saith Jehovah, from henceforth and for ever.

²² They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree shall be the days of my people, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
