¹ Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha. ² And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. ³ The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. ⁴ But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby. ⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. ⁶ When therefore he heard that he was sick, he abode at that time two days in the place where he was. ⁷ Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judζa again. ⁸ The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? ⁹ Jesus answered, { Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.} ¹¹ These things spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus is fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. ¹² The disciples therefore said unto him, Lord, if he is fallen asleep, he will recover. ¹³ Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep. ¹⁴ Then Jesus therefore said unto them plainly, { Lazarus is dead. ¹⁵ And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.} ¹⁶ Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
¹⁷ So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already. ¹⁸ Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off; ¹⁹ and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother. ²⁰ Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house. ²¹ Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. ²² And even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee. ²³ Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. ²⁴ Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. ²⁵ Jesus said unto her, { I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?} ²⁷ She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, [even] he that cometh into the world. ²⁸ And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher is here, and calleth thee. ²⁹ And she, when she heard it, arose quickly, and went unto him. ³⁰ (Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.) ³¹ The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going unto the tomb to weep there. ³² Mary therefore, when she came where Jesus was, and saw him, fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. ³³ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews [also] weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, ³⁴ and said, Where have ye laid him? They say unto him, Lord, come and see. ³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him! ³⁷ But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die? ³⁸ Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it. ³⁹ Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath been [dead] four days. ⁴⁰ Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest see the glory of God? ⁴¹ So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, { Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me. ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.} ⁴³ And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
⁴⁵ Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. ⁵¹ Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad. ⁵³ So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death. ⁵⁴ Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciples.
⁵⁵ Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves. ⁵⁶ They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? That he will not come to the feast? ⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.

¹ And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

¹ In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. ² Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying, ³ Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. ⁴ And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle part of the city, that the word of Jehovah came to him, saying, ⁵ Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of Jehovah. ⁶ And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. ⁷ And Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
⁸ And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up unto the house of Jehovah the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to decline ten steps: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten steps. ¹¹ And Isaiah the prophet cried unto Jehovah; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.
¹² At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

¹⁷ And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

¹ And when they draw nigh unto Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples,

³⁸ Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord's feet, and heard his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. ⁴¹ But the Lord answered and said unto her, { Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things: ⁴² but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.}

²⁰ and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the [crumbs] that fell from the rich man's table; yea, even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried. ²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted, and thou art in anguish.

³ The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. ⁶ When therefore he heard that he was sick, he abode at that time two days in the place where he was.

¹¹ These things spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus is fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹ Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead. ² So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.

⁹ The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

¹⁷ The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.

³⁷ And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat.

³ And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure nard very costly; [and] she brake the cruse, and poured it over his head.

³⁷ And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was sitting at meat in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment, ³⁸ and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

³ Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

² And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

³ As for the saints that are in the earth,
They are the excellent in whom is all my delight.

³⁶ The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him!

²³ There was at the table reclining in Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

²⁶ since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick: ²⁷ for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.

²⁰ Erastus remained at Corinth: but Trophimus I left at Miletus sick.

⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth,
And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. ⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom [his] father chasteneth not?

¹⁴ Is any among you sick? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: ¹⁵ and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

³⁹ And when he was entered in, he saith unto them, Why make ye a tumult, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁴⁰ And they laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all forth, taketh the father of the child and her mother and them that were with him, and goeth in where the child was. ⁴¹ And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise. ⁴² And straightway the damsel rose up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were amazed straightway with a great amazement.

¹¹ This beginning of his signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, { If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God;

³ Jesus answered, { Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

²⁴ So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name.} There came therefore a voice out of heaven, [saying], I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

³¹ When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, { Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him; ³² and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him.

¹ These things spake Jesus; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, { Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the Son may glorify thee:

⁵ And now, Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

¹⁰ and all things that are mine are thine, and thine are mine: and I am glorified in them.

¹¹ I say then, Did they stumble that they might fall? God forbid: but by their fall salvation [is come] unto the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.

¹¹ being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but [that] with all boldness, as always, [so] now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death. ²¹ who through him are believers in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

¹¹ if any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; because the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.

⁸ The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

⁹ Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love. ¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and [that] your joy may be made full. ¹² This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

²⁷ for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

²⁶ and I made known unto them thy name, and will make it known; that the love wherewith thou lovedst me may be in them, and I in them.}

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of Jehovah it shall be provided.

²⁴ And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and he returned to them, and spake to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.

²⁹ And he lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin his brother, his mother's son, and said, Is this your youngest brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son. ³⁰ And Joseph made haste; for his heart yearned over his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there. ³¹ And he washed his face, and came out; and he refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

¹ And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth. ² And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his grain money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. ³ As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses. ⁴ [And] when they were gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? ⁵ Is not this that in which my lord drinketh, and whereby he indeed divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.

¹ Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood before him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. ² And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard. ³ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. ⁴ And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. ⁵ And now be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.

¹⁸ And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him.

⁸ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

²² And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs. ²⁷ But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.

⁵¹ And it came to pass, when the days were well-nigh come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

⁴⁰ And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was at the first baptizing; and there he abode. ⁴¹ And many came unto him; and they said, John indeed did no sign: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true. ⁴² And many believed on him there.

³⁶ And after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, [and see] how they fare.

²² And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: ²³ save that the Holy Spirit testifieth unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. ²⁴ But I hold not my life of any account as dear unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

In Jehovah do I take refuge:
How say ye to my soul,
Flee [as] a bird to your mountain; ² For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,
They make ready their arrow upon the string,
That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart; ³ If the foundations be destroyed,
What can the righteous do?

²¹ From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. ²² And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall never be unto thee. ²³ But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art a stumbling-block unto me: for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

⁷ and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi.

⁵⁹ They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

³¹ The Jews took up stones again to stone him.

³⁹ They sought again to take him: and he went forth out of their hand.

²⁴ But I hold not my life of any account as dear unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹² And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely,
And thy foot shall not stumble.

⁹ They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.

³¹ In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee. ³² And he said unto them, { Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected. ³³ Nevertheless I must go on my way to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

⁴ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, { Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

² When evil-doers came upon me to eat up my flesh,
[Even] mine adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light,
That shineth more and more unto the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness:
They know not at what they stumble.

¹⁴ The wise man's eyes are in his head, and the fool walketh in darkness: and yet I perceived that one event happeneth to them all.

¹⁶ Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹¹ But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one [and] a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹¹ And Jehovah spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

⁷ Didst not thou, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

⁸ But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

²⁴ he said, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

⁵² and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised;

³⁹ And when he was entered in, he saith unto them, Why make ye a tumult, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth.

²⁹ He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is made full.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself: ²⁷ and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man. ²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, ²⁹ and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

¹³ Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.

⁴³ And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known unto you.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁸ Then they also that are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

³⁴ Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not; for some have no knowledge of God: I speak [this] to move you to shame.

⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,

¹⁴ Wherefore [he] saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.

¹⁰ who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

²³ and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.

²⁴ The Jews therefore came round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou hold us in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.

²⁵ These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

²⁹ His disciples say, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying.

²⁴ And Jehovah appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of Jehovah was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.

¹⁴ He suffered no man to do them wrong;
Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,

¹⁵ Behold, they may gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall because of thee.

⁸ Thus saith Jehovah, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not, for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sake, that I may not destroy them all.

⁴ But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.

³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him!

³⁰ Jesus answered and said, { This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works. ¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

¹⁵ For all things [are] for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound unto the glory of God.

¹⁰ Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹³ These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, [even] unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God.

³ Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the [son] of Alphζus, and Thaddζus;

³⁵ Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, [yet] will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the [son] of Alphζus, and Thaddζus, and Simon the Cananζan,

¹⁵ and Matthew and Thomas, and James [the son] of Alphζus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,

³³ And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

³⁷ Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee.

⁵ Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?

²⁴ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
²⁶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace [be] unto you. ²⁷ Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and see my hands; and reach [hither] thy hand, and put it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. ²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.

² There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the [sons] of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphζus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [the son] of James.

² After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

³⁹ Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath been [dead] four days.

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades,
Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou madest known unto me the ways of life;
Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance. ²⁹ Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day. ³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set [one] upon his throne; ³¹ he foreseeing [this] spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

¹³ And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was threescore furlongs from Jerusalem.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.

²⁰ And the winepress was trodden without the city, and there came out blood from the winepress, even unto the bridles of the horses, as far as a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

¹⁶ And the city lieth foursquare, and the length thereof is as great as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs: the length and the breadth and the height thereof are equal.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him.

² And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me. So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

²¹ and Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elead, whom the men of Gath that were born in the land slew, because they came down to take away their cattle. ²² And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brethren came to comfort him.

¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, and they made an appointment together to come to bemoan him and to comfort him.

¹¹ Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one a ring of gold.

² It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

¹⁹ These two things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword; how shall I comfort thee?

⁵ For thus saith Jehovah, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith Jehovah, even lovingkindness and tender mercies. ⁶ Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them; ⁷ neither shall men break [bread] for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

² She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her:
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

⁹ Her filthiness was in her skirts; she remembered not her latter end;
Therefore is she come down wonderfully; she hath no comforter:
Behold, O Jehovah, my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself.

¹⁶ For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water;
Because the comforter that should refresh my soul is far from me:
My children are desolate, because the enemy hath prevailed.

²¹ They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me;
All mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it:
Thou wilt bring the day that thou hast proclaimed, and they shall be like unto me.

¹³ What shall I testify unto thee? what shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem?
What shall I compare to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion?
For thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?

³¹ The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going unto the tomb to weep there.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

⁴ who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

¹⁸ Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

¹¹ Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

¹ { Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

⁶ But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.

³⁰ (Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.)

²⁵ And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

¹⁵ And from thence the brethren, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns; whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

¹⁷ then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? thou art come unto me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!

¹⁹ Yea, they spake against God;
They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

⁴¹ And they turned again and tempted God,
And provoked the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁸ While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

⁶ And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: ⁷ wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. ⁹ And when Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned and said unto the multitude that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ¹⁰ And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole.

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. ¹⁴ And he came nigh and touched the bier: and the bearers stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. ¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

⁴⁹ While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's [house], saying, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Teacher. ⁵⁰ But Jesus hearing it, answered him, Fear not: only believe, and she shall be made whole. ⁵¹ And when he came to the house, he suffered not any man to enter in with him, save Peter, and John, and James, and the father of the maiden and her mother. ⁵² And all were weeping, and bewailing her: but he said, Weep not; for she is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ But he, taking her by the hand, called, saying, Maiden, arise. ⁵⁵ And her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately: and he commanded that [something] be given her to eat.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judζa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought [him] that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. ⁴⁸ Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe. ⁴⁹ The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

³² Mary therefore, when she came where Jesus was, and saw him, fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

³⁷ But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die?

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give [thee] the nations for thine inheritance,
And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

¹⁸ And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, { All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth.

²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

²² For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son; ²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself: ²⁷ and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

⁴¹ So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, { Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me. ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.}

² even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that to all whom thou hast given him, he should give eternal life.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yea, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten [son]; ¹⁸ [even he] to whom it was said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called: ¹⁹ accounting that God [is] able to raise up, even from the dead; from whence he did also in a figure receive him back.

¹⁵ As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with [beholding] thy form.

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol;
Death shall be their shepherd;
And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;
And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume,
That there be no habitation for it. ¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol;
For he will receive me. [Selah

⁸ He hath swallowed up death for ever; and the Lord Jehovah will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people will he take away from off all the earth: for Jehovah hath spoken it.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live; my dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust; for thy dew is [as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast forth the dead.

¹ The hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Jehovah, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. ² And he caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. ³ And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord Jehovah, thou knowest. ⁴ Again he said unto me, Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of Jehovah. ⁵ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live. ⁶ And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and, behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. ⁸ And I beheld, and, lo, there were sinews upon them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them. ⁹ Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. ¹⁰ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death: O death, where are thy plagues? O Sheol, where is thy destruction? repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

²³ On that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him, ²⁴ saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother; ²⁶ in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. ²⁷ And after them all, the woman died. ²⁸ In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ But Jesus answered and said unto them, {\b Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven. ³¹ But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not [the God] of the dead, but of the living.}

¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not [wherewith] to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection of the just.}

³¹ inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
³² Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We will hear thee concerning this yet again.

⁶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees: touching the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. ⁷ And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees; and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both. ⁹ And there arose a great clamor: and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: and what if a spirit hath spoken to him, or an angel?

¹⁵ having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust.

³⁵ Women received their dead by a resurrection: and others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

²⁵ But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth,
And at last he will stand up upon the earth: ²⁶ And after my skin, [even] this [body], is destroyed,
Then without my flesh shall I see God; ²⁷ Whom I, even I, shall see, on my side,
And mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger.
My heart is consumed within me.

⁹ For with thee is the fountain of life:
In thy light shall we see light.

¹⁶ O Lord, by these things men live;
And wholly therein is the life of my spirit:
Wherefore recover thou me, and make me to live.

⁴³ And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.

⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.

²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:

³⁵ Jesus said unto them, { I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

³⁹ And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.}

⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁶ Jesus saith unto him, { I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.

¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

¹⁷ (as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were.

¹⁷ For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, [even] Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ So then as through one trespass [the judgment came] unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness [the free gift came] unto all men to justification of life. ¹⁹ For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁰ But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep. ²¹ For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. ²³ But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ's, at his coming. ²⁴ Then [cometh] the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power. ²⁵ For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet. ²⁶ The last enemy that shall be abolished is death.

²⁹ Else what shall they do that are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?

⁴³ it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: ⁴⁴ it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual [body]. ⁴⁵ So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam [became] a life-giving spirit. ⁴⁶ Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; then that which is spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven. ⁴⁸ As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. ⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
⁵⁰ Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. ⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed, ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. ⁵⁵ O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law: ⁵⁷ but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ knowing that he that raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also with Jesus, and shall present us with you.

¹ For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. ² For verily in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven: ³ if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. ⁴ For indeed we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life. ⁵ Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit. ⁶ Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord ⁷ (for we walk by faith, not by sight); ⁸ we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

²³ But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:

¹⁰ that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death;

²⁰ For our citizenship is in heaven; whence also we wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: ²¹ who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, [that it may be] conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

³ For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, [who is] our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. ¹⁴ For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own. ¹⁵ And if indeed they had been mindful of that [country] from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But now they desire a better [country], that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

¹ That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we beheld, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life ² (and the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare unto you the life, the eternal [life], which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us);

¹¹ And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life.

⁵ The rest of the dead lived not until the thousand years should be finished. This is the first resurrection.

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where are also the beast and the false prophet; and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, [even] the lake of fire. ¹⁵ And if any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

⁴ and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away.

¹ And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And he that heareth, let him say, Come. And he that is athirst, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life freely.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

⁵³ Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁵ that whosoever believeth may in him have eternal life.}
¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him. ¹⁸ He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

¹⁴ but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.}

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.}

⁵⁴ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever.}

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.} ⁵² The Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death. ⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom makest thou thyself?

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.

¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.

¹³ for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹⁰ He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son.

¹ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.

³ and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹¹ for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

¹⁹ And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to the Lord, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another? ²⁰ And when the men were come unto him, they said, John the Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel.

⁴² and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

⁶⁹ And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God.

³⁶ He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? ³⁷ Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.
³⁰ Many other signs therefore did Jesus in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book: ³¹ but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.

³⁶ And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: ¹⁶ howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

¹ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

⁸ The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh,
Leaping upon the mountains,
Skipping upon the hills. ⁹ My beloved is like a roe or a young hart:
Behold, he standeth behind our wall;
He looketh in at the windows;
He glanceth through the lattice.
¹⁰ My beloved spake, and said unto me,
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹¹ For, lo, the winter is past;
The rain is over and gone; ¹² The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing [of birds] is come,
And the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land; ¹³ The fig-tree ripeneth her green figs,
And the vines are in blossom;
They give forth their fragrance.
Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹⁴ O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock,
In the covert of the steep place,
Let me see thy countenance,
Let me hear thy voice;
For sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

¹⁰ In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, shall ye invite every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig-tree.

¹⁸ And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

⁴⁹ And Jesus stood still, and said, Call ye him. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good cheer: rise, he calleth thee.

¹⁴ and wheresoever he shall enter in, say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith, Where is my guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

¹¹ And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

⁴¹ He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

³ To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

²⁰ Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house.

¹³ Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

¹⁶ Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turneth herself, and saith unto him in Hebrew, Rabboni; which is to say, Teacher.

⁷ That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his coat about him (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea.

¹⁷ then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

¹² Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees;

⁸ [When thou saidst], Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee,
Thy face, Jehovah, will I seek.

⁵⁹ I thought on my ways,
And turned my feet unto thy testimonies. ⁶⁰ I made haste, and delayed not,
To observe thy commandments.

²³ A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth;
And a word in due season, how good is it!

¹⁷ Iron sharpeneth iron;
So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

¹ By night on my bed
I sought him whom my soul loveth:
I sought him, but I found him not. ² [I said], I will rise now, and go about the city;
In the streets and in the broad ways
I will seek him whom my soul loveth:
I sought him, but I found him not. ³ The watchmen that go about the city found me;
[To whom I said], Saw ye him whom my soul loveth? ⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them,
When I found him whom my soul loveth:
I held him, and would not let him go,
Until I had brought him into my mother's house,
And into the chamber of her that conceived me.

¹⁶ David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, [and stood] beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. ¹⁸ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he hearkened not unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead!

¹⁹ and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he himself is judged of no man.

⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁴¹ And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him to come into his house;

¹⁶ and he fell upon his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

⁴⁹ The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

²¹ Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

¹⁴ And the four living creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped.

⁸ And I John am he that heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel that showed me these things.

⁵ And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored.

¹⁹ And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me.

³³ And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled. ³⁴ And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch. ³⁵ And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.

³⁸ Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

¹⁵ For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear, ⁸ though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;

⁶ He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalene and Mary the [mother] of Joses beheld where he was laid.

⁶ And he saith unto them, Be not amazed: ye seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who hath been crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold, the place where they laid him!

³⁹ He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour.

² She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.

³⁰ And Joseph made haste; for his heart yearned over his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

²⁵ Did not I weep for him that was in trouble?
Was not my soul grieved for the needy?

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth:
I afflicted my soul with fasting;
And my prayer returned into mine own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother:
I bowed down mourning, as one that bewaileth his mother. ¹⁵ But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:
The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not;
They did tear me, and ceased not:

¹³⁶ Streams of water run down mine eyes,
Because they observe not thy law.

³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

¹ Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is taken captive.

¹⁷ And thou shalt say this word unto them, Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.

¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and [because] they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,

³³ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews [also] weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

² that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that I myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren's sake, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

¹⁶ For verily not to angels doth he give help, but he giveth help to the seed of Abraham. ¹⁷ Wherefore it behooved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.} ²² Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, { If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

¹⁵ So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He saith to him again a second time, Simon, [son] of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep. ¹⁷ He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, { Feed my sheep.

⁸ I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

² and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it;

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and [such] we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loveth us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood;

¹⁹ Yea, they spake against God;
They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out,
And streams overflowed;
Can he give bread also?
Will he provide flesh for his people?

⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him], with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.

³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen.

³⁹ And one of the malefactors that were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.

⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, ⁷ and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent) . He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

¹⁹ And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (the same is Hebron), in the land of Canaan.

²⁹ And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying-place. ³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah—

¹⁶ What doest thou here? and whom has thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out here a sepulchre? hewing him out a sepulchre on high, graving a habitation for himself in the rock!

⁴ And Jehovah said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done in the midst thereof.

⁶ Sigh therefore, thou son of man; with the breaking of thy loins and with bitterness shalt thou sigh before their eyes.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.

⁶⁶ So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.

¹² And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

⁴⁶ And he bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

² And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

¹ Now on the first [day] of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb.

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

⁴ I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

⁷ None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother,
Nor give to God a ransom for him;

⁹ That he should still live alway,
That he should not see corruption.

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol;
Death shall be their shepherd;
And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;
And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume,
That there be no habitation for it.

³ And they were saying among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the tomb?

¹⁷ So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades,
Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

²¹ who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, [that it may be] conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem: believe in Jehovah your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

² So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary,
To see thy power and thy glory.

¹⁶ Let thy work appear unto thy servants,
And thy glory upon their children.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

²³ Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. ²⁴ Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. ²⁵ Jesus said unto her, { I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?}

⁴¹ These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him.

¹⁷ (as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were. ¹⁸ Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be. ¹⁹ And without being weakened in faith he considered his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb; ²⁰ yet, looking unto the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief, but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God, ²¹ and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. ²² Wherefore also it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. ²³ Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned unto him; ²⁴ but for our sake also, unto whom it shall be reckoned, who believe on him that raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, ²⁵ who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

⁶ Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹ A Song of Ascents.

Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes,
O thou that sittest in the heavens.

²⁵ At that season Jesus answered and said, { I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes:

²¹ In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, { I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

¹³ But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me a sinner.

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name.} There came therefore a voice out of heaven, [saying], I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. ²⁹ The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him. ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, { This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

⁶ In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

²² Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw. ²³ And all the multitudes were amazed, and said, Can this be the son of David? ²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

¹⁷ For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.

³⁸ For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

²⁸ Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, { Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. ²⁹ I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.}

¹⁶ Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.}

⁴² Jesus said unto them, { If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

²⁴ So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. ²⁶ They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples? ²⁸ And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes. ³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

³⁶ say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am [the] Son of God? ³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. ³⁸ But if I do them, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.}

²² And even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.

⁴⁵ Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

⁸ for the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them; and they received [them], and knew of a truth that I came forth from thee, and they believed that thou didst send me.

²¹ that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us: that the world may believe that thou didst send me.

²⁵ O righteous Father, the world knew thee not, but I knew thee; and these knew that thou didst send me;

³¹ but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

²⁵ Wherefore also he is able to save to the uttermost them that draw near unto God through him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

¹⁴ And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world.

²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. ²² And Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

³³ He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto Jehovah. ³⁴ And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon him; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. ³⁵ Then he returned, and walked in the house once to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. ³⁶ And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

⁴¹ And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

⁶ But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.

¹² And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this man? or why fasten ye your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk?

³⁴ And Peter said unto him, Ζneas, Jesus Christ healeth thee: arise and make thy bed. And straightway he arose.

⁴⁰ But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

³ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

⁶ Jehovah killeth, and maketh alive:
He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.

⁹ For he spake, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

⁴³ And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that [something] should be given her to eat.

¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.

³⁰ I and the Father are one.}

⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

⁵ and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths lying; yet entered he not in.

⁷ and the napkin, that was upon his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself.

⁹ And there sat in the window a certain young man named Eutychus, borne down with deep sleep; and as Paul discoursed yet longer, being borne down by his sleep he fell down from the third story, and was taken up dead. ¹⁰ And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Make ye no ado; for his life is in him. ¹¹ And when he was gone up, and had broken the bread, and eaten, and had talked with them a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. ¹² And they brought the lad alive, and were not a little comforted.

¹⁸ and the Living one; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

²³ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he did.

³¹ But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?

⁴¹ And many came unto him; and they said, John indeed did no sign: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true.

⁹ The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death; ¹¹ because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

¹⁷ The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness. ¹⁸ For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign. ¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

⁴² Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [it], lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

³⁰ And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent. ³¹ And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead.}

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. ¹⁶ And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹³ They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

³⁷ But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:

²⁵ And there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people.

² The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, [saying], ³ Let us break their bonds asunder,
And cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh:
The Lord will have them in derision.

²² but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas;

¹ Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: ² and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.

¹ Now after two days was [the feast of] the passover and the unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him with subtlety, and kill him:

² And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people.

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

⁵ And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; ⁶ and Annas the high priest [was there], and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest.

¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it spread no further among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

²⁷ for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

²¹ And when they heard [this], they entered into the temple about daybreak, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison-house to have them brought.

²⁴ Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed concerning them whereunto this would grow.

⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, that shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy ground, until thou be destroyed; that also shall not leave thee grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of thy cattle, or the young of thy flock, until they have caused thee to perish. ⁵² And they shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fortified walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land; and they shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee. ⁵³ And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, whom Jehovah thy God hath given thee, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee. ⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he hath remaining; ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he hath nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in all thy gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
⁵⁸ If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH THY GOD; ⁵⁹ then Jehovah will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ And he will bring upon thee again all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. ⁶¹ Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will Jehovah bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. ⁶² And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou didst not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God. ⁶³ And it shall come to pass, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest in to possess it. ⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter thee among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of thy foot: but Jehovah will give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul; ⁶⁶ and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear night and day, and shalt have no assurance of thy life. ⁶⁷ In the morning thou shalt say, Would it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would it were morning! for the fear of thy heart which thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah will bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall sell yourselves unto your enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations [shall come] one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out upon the desolate.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

¹ Behold, a day of Jehovah cometh, when thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. ² For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?} ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus saith unto them, { Did ye never read in the scriptures,
The stone which the builders rejected,
The same was made the head of the corner;
This was from the Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes?

⁷ But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

²⁵ And all the people answered and said, His blood [be] on us, and on our children.

¹² And those by the way side are they that have heard; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.

⁵² Woe unto you lawyers! for ye took away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.}

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, { If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.}

²⁰ But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand. ²¹ Then let them that are in Judζa flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein. ²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ²³ Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

²⁸ But Jesus turning unto them said, { Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. ²⁹ For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave suck. ³⁰ Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. ³¹ For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?}

⁷ The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.

²⁸ saying, We strictly charged you not to teach in this name: and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

³⁸ And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will be overthrown: ³⁹ but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God. ⁴⁰ And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles unto them, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove out us, and please not God, and are contrary to all men; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

¹² Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit?
There is more hope of a fool than of him.

²⁰ Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! ²¹ Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! ²² Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink; ²³ that justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

² in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

⁴⁸ Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.

⁵¹ Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;

¹³ and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. ¹⁴ Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

⁶ and Annas the high priest [was there], and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest.

²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

⁶ We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought:

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinketh that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He that taketh the wise in their craftiness:

⁴⁶ and he said unto them, { Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;

⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.

¹⁴ Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

¹² Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Cζsar's friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Cζsar.

⁸ and why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? whose condemnation is just.

³⁰ And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before Jehovah: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before Jehovah continually.

²⁸ And Jehovah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

² And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

¹⁴ And now, behold, I go unto my people: come, [and] I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days. ¹⁵ And he took up his parable, and said,
Balaam the son of Beor saith,
And the man whose eye was closed saith; ¹⁶ He saith, who heareth the words of God,
And knoweth the knowledge of the Most High,
Who seeth the vision of the Almighty,
Falling down, and having his eyes open: ¹⁷ I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not nigh:
There shall come forth a star out of Jacob,
And a sceptre shall rise out of Israel,
And shall smite through the corners of Moab,
And break down all the sons of tumult. ¹⁸ And Edom shall be a possession,
Seir also shall be a possession, [who were] his enemies;
While Israel doeth valiantly. ¹⁹ And out of Jacob shall one have dominion,
And shall destroy the remnant from the city. ²⁰ And he looked on Amalek, and took up his parable, and said,
Amalek was the first of the nations;
But his latter end shall come to destruction. ²¹ And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said,
Strong is thy dwelling-place,
And thy nest is set in the rock. ²² Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted,
Until Asshur shall carry thee away captive. ²³ And he took up his parable, and said,
Alas, who shall live when God doeth this? ²⁴ But ships [shall come] from the coast of Kittim,
And they shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber;
And he also shall come to destruction. ²⁵ And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

²⁷ And the children of Israel asked of Jehovah (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And Jehovah said, Go up; for to-morrow I will deliver him into thy hand.

⁹ And David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
⁷ He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. ⁸ By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke [was due]?

²⁶ And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.}

¹⁵ even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

²⁵ whom God set forth [to be] a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God; ²⁶ for the showing, [I say], of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus.

² And if I have [the gift of] prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

²¹ Him who knew no sin he made [to be] sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

⁴ but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

²⁴ who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

¹⁵ forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the [son] of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing; ¹⁶ but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man's voice and stayed the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved.

¹⁰ The sceptre shall not depart from Judah,
Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,
Until Shiloh come:
And unto him shall the obedience of the peoples be.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws;
And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah;
And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever;
And let the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen, and Amen.

²² When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve Jehovah. ²³ He weakened my strength in the way;
He shortened my days.

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse, that standeth for an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the nations seek; and his resting-place shall be glorious.
¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, that shall remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And he will set up an ensign for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

⁶ yea, he saith, It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

¹⁸ Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith Jehovah, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all as with an ornament, and gird thyself with them, like a bride.

⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not; and a nation that knew not thee shall run unto thee, because of Jehovah thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

⁸ The Lord Jehovah, who gathereth the outcasts of Israel, saith, Yet will I gather [others] to him, besides his own that are gathered.

⁴ Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: they all gather themselves together, they come to thee; thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be carried in the arms.

¹⁶ Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Whereas I have removed them far off among the nations, and whereas I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them a sanctuary for a little while in the countries where they are come. ¹⁷ Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.

¹² As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God.

³¹ But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: ³² and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; ³³ and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

³² A light for revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of thy people Israel.

²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

¹⁶ And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.}

¹⁰ for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to harm thee: for I have much people in this city.}

²⁹ Or is God [the God] of Jews only? is he not [the God] of Gentiles also? Yea, of Gentiles also:

²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: ³⁰ and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

²⁵ As he saith also in Hosea,
I will call that my people, which was not my people;
And her beloved, that was not beloved. ²⁶ And it shall be, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people,
There shall they be called sons of the living God.

⁵ having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

⁹ making known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him ¹⁰ unto a dispensation of the fulness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth; in him, [I say],

¹⁴ For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition, ¹⁵ having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the two one new man, [so] making peace; ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: ¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh: ¹⁸ for through him we both have our access in one Spirit unto the Father. ¹⁹ So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but ye are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, ²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner stone; ²¹ in whom each several building, fitly framed together, groweth into a holy temple in the Lord; ²² in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

²⁰ and through him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, [I say], whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens. ²¹ And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works, ²² yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without blemish and unreproveable before him: ²³ if so be that ye continue in the faith, grounded and stedfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel which ye heard, which was preached in all creation under heaven; whereof I Paul was made a minister.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: ¹⁴ whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

² and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

⁹ And they sing a new song, saying,
Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and didst purchase unto God with thy blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation,

⁹ After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of [all] tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands; ¹⁰ and they cry with a great voice, saying,
Salvation unto our God who sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb.

¹⁶ And it came to pass from that time forth, that half of my servants wrought in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.

²¹ Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

² The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, [saying],

¹³ For I have heard the defaming of many,
Terror on every side:
While they took counsel together against me
They devised to take away my life.

¹⁰ For mine enemies speak concerning me;
And they that watch for my soul take counsel together,

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries:
But I [give myself unto] prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good,
And hatred for my love.

² Blessed be the name of Jehovah
From this time forth and for evermore.

⁴ Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me.

²¹ From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death;

⁶ And the Pharisees went out, and straightway with the Herodians took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs.

¹⁰ But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;

³³ But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and minded to slay them.

²³ And when many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel together to kill him:

²³ And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep-shearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

¹⁹ And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephron with the towns thereof.

¹ When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John ² (although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples), ³ he left Judζa, and departed again into Galilee.

¹ And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judζa, because the Jews sought to kill him.

⁴ For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.

¹⁰ But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹³ Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

⁴⁰ And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was at the first baptizing; and there he abode.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, { I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing.

² Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments:

¹¹ And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is Jehovah's passover. ¹² For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am Jehovah. ¹³ And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ And this day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to Jehovah: throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

¹⁰ And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments,

¹⁴ And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments. ¹⁵ And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not near a woman.

⁶ And there were certain men, who were unclean by reason of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

⁵ And he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto Jehovah: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

¹⁷ For there were many in the assembly that had not sanctified themselves: therefore the Levites had the charge of killing the passovers for every one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto Jehovah. ¹⁸ For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it is written. For Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, The good Jehovah pardon every one ¹⁹ that setteth his heart to seek God, Jehovah, the God of his fathers, though [he be] not [cleansed] according to the purification of the sanctuary. ²⁰ And Jehovah hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

¹ And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. ² Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt-offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. ³ And they set the altar upon its base; for fear was upon them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah, even burnt-offerings morning and evening. ⁴ And they kept the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and [offered] the daily burnt-offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required; ⁵ and afterward the continual burnt-offering, and [the offerings] of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of Jehovah that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill-offering unto Jehovah. ⁶ From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah: but the foundation of the temple of Jehovah was not yet laid.

¹ And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel. ² And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were [attentive] unto the book of the law. ⁴ And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, [and] Meshullam. ⁵ And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up. ⁶ And Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God: and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with the lifting up of their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped Jehovah with their faces to the ground. ⁷ Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people [stood] in their place. ⁸ And they read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
⁹ And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto Jehovah your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. ¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye grieved; for the joy of Jehovah is your strength. ¹¹ So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved. ¹² And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

⁶ I will wash my hands in innocency:
So will I compass thine altar, O Jehovah;

¹ And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples,

⁶ Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews' manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.

¹³ And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

¹ After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

⁴ Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

⁸ Go ye up unto the feast: I go not up unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.} ⁹ And having said these things unto them, he abode [still] in Galilee.
¹⁰ But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹ Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.

¹ Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

²⁸ They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

¹⁸ amidst which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult: but [there were] certain Jews from Asia—

²⁸ But let a man prove himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.

¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling them that have been defiled, sanctify unto the cleanness of the flesh: ¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish unto God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.

¹¹ The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

⁷ Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judζa again. ⁸ The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries:
But I [give myself unto] prayer.

¹⁶ And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. ¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work. ¹⁸ For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

²² These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
