How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?
How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

²² As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes:

⁶ I call to remembrance my song in the night:
I commune with mine own heart;
And my spirit maketh diligent search. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever?
And will he be favorable no more? ⁸ Is his lovingkindness clean gone for ever?
Doth his promise fail for evermore? ⁹ Hath God forgotten to be gracious?
Hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? [Selah

³⁸ But thou hast cast off and rejected,
Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed. ³⁹ Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant:
Thou hast profaned his crown [by casting it] to the ground. ⁴⁰ Thou hast broken down all his hedges;
Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All that pass by the way rob him:
He is become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. ⁴³ Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword,
And hast not made him to stand in the battle. ⁴⁴ Thou hast made his brightness to cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ The days of his youth hast thou shortened:

²⁷ Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice [due] to me is passed away from my God?

³⁹ therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from my presence:

²⁰ Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever,
[And] forsake us so long time?

¹ I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God did not cast off his people which he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he pleadeth with God against Israel: ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. ⁴ But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have left for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. ⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
