²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

³⁸ Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from you. ³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said to them, When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

¹¹ And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

¹⁶ And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

²⁰ But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come on you.

¹⁸ Then answered the Jews and said to him, What sign show you to us, seeing that you do these things?

²⁸ The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and said to the men,

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seems to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took him, and brought him to Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof you speak, is? ²⁰ For you bring certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. ²¹ (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
