¹⁶ And when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, O Israel. Now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed to their tents.

³⁵ neither did they show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shown to Israel.

²⁷ And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, which was the second day, that David's place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has the son of Jesse not come in to the food, neither yesterday, nor today?

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Thou son of a perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that thou have chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and to the shame of thy mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground, thou shall not be established, nor thy kingdom. Therefore now send and fetch him to me, for he shall surely die.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites. Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

⁹ Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

¹³ And Saul said to him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me to lie in wait as at this day?

¹⁵ but my loving kindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul whom I put away before thee. ¹⁶ And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure forever before thee; thy throne shall be established forever.

¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my life. How much more this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse, for LORD has bidden him.

¹ And there happened to be there a base fellow whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. And he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel.

¹³ However I will not rend away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.

³⁴ However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes. ³⁵ But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to thee, even ten tribes. ³⁶ And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there. ³⁷ And I will take thee, and thou shall reign according to all that thy soul desires, and shall be king over Israel. ³⁸ And it shall be, if thou will hearken to all that I command thee, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with thee, and will build thee a sure house as I built for David, and will give Israel to thee. ³⁹ And for this I will afflict the seed of David, but not forever.

¹⁴ But I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.

¹⁹ So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate vain things? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bonds apart, and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will have them in derision. ⁵ Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and vex them in his great displeasure. ⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

¹⁰ Surely the inward thought of man shall praise thee, even the residue of inward thought will observe a festival to thee.

²⁹ I will also make his seed to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his sons forsake my law, and walk not in my ordinances, ³¹ if they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments, ³² then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes, ³³ but my loving kindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴ I will not break my covenant, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ I have sworn once by my holiness; I will not lie to David. ³⁶ His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established forever as the moon, and as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah.

¹⁷ There I will make the horn of David to bud. I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.

⁶ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. And the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even forever. The zeal of LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse. And a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.

²⁰ Thus says LORD: If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season, ²¹ then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign upon his throne, and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

²⁵ Thus says LORD: If my covenant of day and night stand not, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ²⁶ then I will also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.

²⁴ And my servant David shall be king over them, and they all shall have one shepherd. They shall also walk in my ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them. ²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers dwelt. And they shall dwell therein, they, and their sons, and their son's sons, forever. And David my servant shall be their ruler forever.

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof. And I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old,

³² This man will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. ³³ And he will reign over the house of Jacob into the ages. And of his kingdom there will be no end.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy behind him, saying, We do not want this man to reign over us.

²⁷ Nevertheless those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring here, and kill them before me.

⁶⁶ From this, many of his disciples went back at these things, and walked no more with him.

⁵³ And each man went to his house.

³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, to raise the Christ from the fruit of his loins according to flesh to sit upon his throne.

²⁵ For he must reign until he will put all his enemies under his feet.

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my agent to testify these things to you for the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star.
