¹⁶ Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

²⁴ No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. Ye can not serve God and Mammon.

³⁴ Jesus answered them: Verily, verily, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a servant of sin.

¹² Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof; ¹³ nor yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but yield yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that ye were servants of sin, but obeyed from the heart that form of teaching which was delivered to you;

¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as ye yielded your members servants to uncleanness, and to iniquity unto iniquity; so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto sanctification. ²⁰ For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free as to righteousness. ²¹ What fruit therefore had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now, being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life, in Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁹ promising them liberty, while they themselves are servants of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by the same he is also brought into bondage.
