1 THEN Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil.

Mark 1:12-15

Luke 4:1-13

1 AND Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan; and he was led in the Sprit into the wilderness 2 forty days, tempted by the Devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he hungered. 3 And the Devil said to him: If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying: It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone. 5 And the Devil, leading him up into a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the Devil said to him: All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them; because it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomsoever I will. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answering said to him: It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence. 10 For it is written: He will give his angels command concerning thee, to keep thee; 11 and on their hands they shall bear thee up, lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said to him: It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And having finished every temptation, the Devil departed from him for a season.

John 14:30

30 I will no longer talk much with you; for the prince of the world comes, and in me he has nothing.
