¹ IN like manner, ye wives, being in subjection to your own husbands; that even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be won by the deportment of their wives,

¹⁵ But if thy brother shall sin against thee, go show him his fault between thee and him alone, If he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that ye were servants of sin, but obeyed from the heart that form of teaching which was delivered to you;

² For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives; but if the husband die, she is loosed from the law of the husband.

¹⁶ But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah says: Lord, who believed our report?

¹⁶ For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or what knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

¹⁹ For being free from all men, I made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those under law, as under law, not being myself under law, that I might gain those under law; ²¹ to those without law, as without law (not being without law to God, but under law to Christ), that I might gain those without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all, that I may by all means save some.

³ And I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

³⁴ Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted to them to speak, but they are to be in subjection, as the law also says.

²² wives to their own husbands, as to the Lord. ²³ Because a husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; himself the Savior of the body. ²⁴ But as the church is subjected to Christ, so also are the wives to their own husbands in everything.

³³ Nevertheless, do ye also, severally, each so love his wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she reverence her husband.

¹⁸ Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward those without, redeeming the time.

⁸ in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who know not God, and those who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹¹ Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection. ¹² But I permit not the woman to teach, nor to have authority over the man, but to be in silence.

³ that aged women likewise be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good; ⁴ that they may teach the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. ⁶ The younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded.

⁹ and being perfected became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him;

⁸ By faith Abraham when called obeyed, to go forth into a place which he should afterward receive for an inheritance, and went forth, not knowing whither he went.

¹⁹ Brethren, if any one among you be led astray from the truth, and one convert him; ²⁰ let him know, that he who converts a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will hide a multitude of sins.

²² Having purified your souls in obeying the truth unto unfeigned brotherly love, love one another from the heart fervently;

⁷ Ye husbands, in like manner, dwelling with them according to knowledge, giving honor to the female, as the weaker vessel, as also heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

¹⁷ Because the time is come that judgment should begin from the house of God; but if it begin first from us, what shall be the end of those who obey not the gospel of God?
