Then they seized, took and brought Him to the house of the High priest, with Peter following at a distance.
Now when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
Then a certain servant girl, seeing him sitting by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man also was with him”.
But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know him!”
After a little while another saw him and said, “You also are one of them”. But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”
Then after about an hour had passed, another started insisting, “Surely this fellow also was with him, because he is a Galilean”.
But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
And the Lord turned and looked directly at Peter; then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how He had said to him, “Before a rooster crows, you will deny me three times”.
