3 and compleated his forty days; [for this is the time allowed for embalming] the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
4 And when the days of weeping were ended, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, "If I have found favour in your eyes, speak unto Pharaoh and tell him, how that
5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I am dying; you shall bury me there in the grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan. And now please let me go up and bury my father, and return.
6 And Pharaoh said, Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.
7 So Joseph went to bury his father. All the king's officials, the senior men of his court, and all the leading men of Egypt went with Joseph.
8 and all the house of Joseph and his brothers, and the house of his father. Only, they left their little ones and their flocks and their herds in the land of Goshen.
9 And both chariots and horsemen went up with him. And it was a very great company.
10 And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days.
