1 Samuel 15:14-24

VIN(i) 14 Samuel said, "Then what is this bleating of sheep in my ears and the lowing of cattle that I hear?" 15 Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest. 16 "Be quiet," Samuel told Saul, "Let me tell you what the LORD told me last night." "Speak," Saul replied. 17 Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel; 18 The LORD sent you on a mission: 'Go and completely destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they're destroyed.' 19 "Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder? Why did you do evil in the sight of the LORD?" 20 Saul said to Samuel, "I did obey the LORD. I went on the mission on which the LORD sent me, I brought Agag king of Amalek, and I completely destroyed the Amalekites. 21 But the people took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal. 22 And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams! 23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination; arrogance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you from being king!" 24 Then Saul told Samuel: "I have sinned by not following the LORD's command or your instructions. I was afraid of the people and listened to them.
