Whoever does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Every one who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has life eternal remaining in him. ¹⁶ By this we have come to know love — that Christ laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But if any one has this world's goods and sees his brother in need and shuts away his sympathies from him, how can the love of God remain in him? ¹⁸ Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
